Default Have you ever removed cards from your gallery?

I have some really ugly cards I'd like to remove from my gallery. I can barely stand to look at them. LOL I guess it's my perfectionism, but I don't know why I posted them to begin with. So what happens when you remove a photo? Does it leave a blank spot or does it totally remove it as though it were never uploaded?

It totally removes it.
But, personally - I think it's a shame when people delete cards. I see mine as a record of my journey, and while there are some I'm less than happy with - I uploaded them, so they can stay.
As with everything in life - we're all different, and I do sometimes notice people deleting cards.
If someone follows a link to a card you've deleted, that's different - they'll get an error message saying that either the card doesn't exist or they don't have permission to view it.
But there won't be a gap in your gallery when you view it.

If the cards Im thinking of deleting were some of my early work, I'd chalk it up to learning. But the two I hate were just recent and not the best quality. Maybe I can close my eyes when I'm on that page and pretend they aren't there! LOL

I understand the sentiment (not liking some of the cards you've uploaded - I know I've got some "fuglies" in my gallery!), but I agree with Sabrina - they're "keeping it real". The good, the bad, the ugly - it's all part of the process/journey, right? Besides, you just never know who might think that's the best card you ever made! Beauty in the eye of the beholder and all that...

I remember on the Forums a while ago, someone started a thread about posting your least-favourite card and your most-favourite card from your Gallery - and it was a really fun thread and lots of people (including me) joined in. We ALL had cards that we didn't like - some fairly recent - some from early on in our cardmaking journey - but it is all part of the learning process. I would keep them and just go-with-the-flow.

Years ago I deleted about 10 of my first totally ugly cards and I now regret it! I still have a few of my first (and ugly) cards I posted, but now I wish they all were in there. My 2 cents is keep them and check them out years later and smile at how far you've come!! :-)

P.S. OK, you made me look. I just went back and looked at my first cards (which were scans), boy there were some doozies! lol!

But the ones I wanted to delete were recent! That's the problem. I've come a long way from the beginning so I let those old ones back there. There are two I did for a challenge. I used a new tree stamp and then hated them after I posted them! LOL I may still ditch those two.

Good for you, Kathy! After all, it is YOUR gallery.

I actually didn't know that deleting was an option. Good to know.

I do that all the time. I've deleted probably as many as I now have in my gallery. why not? If no one really cared for them, then delete them.

I'm with you, Kathy. If you don't like it....get rid of it. We do it with clothing....why not our cards??? I keep a folder on my computer of cards that I have made and, in fact, can organize it by occasions, subjects, etc. Much easier to access old cards if I want to look them up.

I tend to agree with Sue about beauty in the eye of the beholder. There's a card I uploaded a while back which I only uploaded because I'd gone to all the effort to make it for a particular challenge. But someone liked it enough to list in the weekly Favourites thread - so it should arrive in her mail box soon.

When stuff falls to page 3 or 4 without many views and no comments, out it goes. Makes room for fresh ideas and stamp sets!

Just a thought on this...

There are so many uploads and galleries and all of that, that it's easy to get overlooked until/unless there is a compelling reason to go to a particular gallery (like yours or any other member's). I've only recently been able to get back into creating and uploading and all, and one of the things I've resolved to do is to be more active in commenting (I was a fly-by last year, for the same reasons I wasn't creating much).

One practice that I've instituted is to go to the gallery of anyone who has commented on one of my uploads and look around. I've already favorited a number of cards from SCS members that I'd never even heard of previously, and added three of their blogs to my blog roll, so I can continue to enjoy what they create. Many times they will have a few cards that have comments - usually cards they made for a specific challenge - but many, many that have very few (if any) views and NO comments. If they had deleted all of those lovely cards, I wouldn't have been able to see as many inspiring creations or follow links to discover other artists or blogs or whatever.

I guess what I'm saying is please don't let the number of views/comments be the determining factor in what stays or goes - give us a chance to catch up with you!

I agree not to base it on comments or views. I just removed two I thought were ugly! LOL If I removed ones with low comments I wouldn't have much of a gallery! ;)

I always think - even if I don't like it or a card comes out in a style that's not typical for me, it will appeal to someone else for a reason I hadn't considered.

I think, also, that our "failures" show that we're all still learning and growing and can serve to encourage others along the way. Sometimes we're our worst critics too and something we're not thrilled with might be beautiful in someone else's eyes.
Styles and techniques change over time too and it is interesting to look back at things we thought were so awesome and now we wouldn't be caught dead doing (I cringe when I see some of my old scrapbooking with all the primary colors and stickers for example!) It is kind of like fashion; when my kids see photos of them in the 90's they accuse me, "Why did you let me out in public in THOSE clothes?" and I have to reassure them that EVERYONE was wearing clothes like that and the boys' bowl cut hairstyles and the girls' scrunchies were "in" back then.
All that said, our galleries are just that, "ours" and if you really feel strongly about removing something then I say go for it.

This is something I find incredibly frustrating when reading back over old posts or doing a search. I cannot tell you how many times I have followed gallery links only to get the error message that the card no longer exists. There are a ton of dead gallery links around here. Just something to think about.

That's a good point and one I think that most people don't consider.. That being said, I just love the fact that my gallery serves two purposes: it is true record of my creative journey, and it serves as a great backup of the pictures I have saved on my computer! Plus, I do sometimes browse my own gallery for inspiration, and do a "retake" of cards I may not have been thrilled with in the first place...

Aww how sweet you are. You know when I first joined here several years ago, I didn't post any pictures until last year. The reason was, I was so intimidated by all of the other members awesome cards.

But then I realized one day, that is why making your own cards is so unique and special it is your own creation. After all if all card makers, made their cards to look exactly look someone else, what would be the point of even bothering making cards. We could just go out and buy one that is mass produced.

And I have learn a long time ago, we all are our worst critic.

And all of your cards are awesome. In fact I have used bits and pieces of a lot of yours for my inspiration on my cards.

I removed my links when I removed the card. I thought about that but my cards were recent so it wasn't too hard to remove them.

I sometimes go through my favorites gallery and clean that up a bit. But I have never deleted any of the cards I've uploaded. I agree with all of you, its a journey. And some cards you made years ago reflect the current trends of that time. And..............two really important things to remember in my opinion: 1) we are our own worst critics, and 2) cards I mad that I absolutely thought were the dregs of the earth, sometimes got lots of comments and were liked by others. So craft away and remember we all have good days when things flow together like gold silk, and then there are day when it's a real struggle to put anything on paper together

I feel people are their own worst critic - me included. Most of the time when someone says they don't like something there are lots of people who do like it! I have a folder on my computer with cards I've made to start a gallery on SCS, but have never gotten around to it. I have most of them on Pinterest now and didn't see the need for them to be in two places.

I wouldn't hesitate to delete anything in my gallery that I don't like - old, new... doesn't matter. I did delete some a long time ago. Remember, it says "MY" Gallery .... manage it in whatever way you like! You can always keep the photo in a file on your hard drive and have a record of it for yourself.

Another option is to create an album - you could title it "oops!" or "what was I thinking?!" or "re-do one day?" .... ;)

I've never posted any of my cards. However, I wanted to chime in regarding this subject. You know the saying: "one man's trash is another man's treasure" -that could apply here. Just because you aren't thrilled with your card doesn't mean someone else wouldn't enjoy it and be inspired. I teach several classes a month to seniors in our area. So, I do lots of cards each month (five for each class). There are times when I am in not particularly fond of the end result yet the students declare that "ugly" card was their favorite. Still, that said, it is your gallery and if you're not comfortable with having cards in the gallery you view as "ugly" - I support your decision to delete those cards.

Some cards I've seen in galleries I find inspirational, not necessarily for the entire card, but perhaps for the color combo or stamp use or design. Often I will look at a card and say to myself, "Oh, I can do that with such and such a stamp, or I could turn that into a great Christmas card." There is always something I like about a card, but that being said, it is your gallery and should be what you want it to be.

It's not currently an option!
For me, the least labour-intensive way is to open a bunch of them in different tabs and just click on the red heart, then close the tabs.

One at a time....I don't think there is anyway to delete more than one, although I have deleted three at a time if I can click on the remove button on three before the screen changes to delete them....Otherwise, one at a time unless things have changed..

I didn't think of that Sabrina!

I think it's fun to go back and look where I started even if it's hideous lol! I also post cards I don't like occasionally and someone will end up liking it. I also like when my stamping "idols" post something they don't like, makes me feel like it's not just me when I make a "crappy" (in my eyes) card lol!

thought I'd add one more statement not included earlier. I don't believe I have ever "favorited" (not sure how it's even done) or written a comment re: cards that I have looked at and admired and/or utilized for inspiration. Still, can't tell you how many cards I have viewed on this site. When I get a "new" (to me) stamp set, I print off the example of the set found in the gallery and look at all the cards posted for that set (selecting several to be printed and placed in my notebook for my stamp catalog). Like the previous poster mentioned, I may find all or some part of the card to be of interest. Guess I should be doing more to let all you posters know how much your shared creativity has meant to me. I especially am appreciative of the folks who share their punch ideas. I am constantly amazed how someone can see an alternative use for a punch in so many different ways. thanks to all you posters!

Yes, I definitely was deleting my earlier cards from my gallery. Some were hideous and some were before I learned how to photograph my cards really well. I have since stopped because what I find is that as I develop my skills and look back on past cards, I don't like those either. So, I would never get a full gallery at that rate.
