Ladies.....I just discovered something so simple and so great....maybe a bunch of you (or all of you, for all I know....lol) know about this but I just came upon the idea because my neck and back were sore and my mind was wandering. I used to work in an architects office and I got to thinking that a slanted table top like a drafters table might help my aching back and neck. Long story short.....after wandering around the internet looking at tables for anywhere from 150 to 2000 dollars, then making my own 'prototypes', ie, piles of books and wood planks and hunks of wood and whatever I could find, and having stuff slip and slide all over the place I grabbed a three-ring binder and plunked it in the middle of my workspace. I've been using it today for about 5 hours and I love it. I can't believe how much I was hunching over, all tensed up, without even realizing it. Now, with just a 2' rise I can sit up virtually straight while I work. It's a work in progress...I'm going to fiddle with the height (i.e., width of the spine of the binder) until I get it right, then I thought I'd glue an 81/2x11 piece of cork to the bottom side to keep it from sliding around. It's just a binder and light-weight obviously, so I can move it out of the way in an instant if I'm doing a task that doesn't lend itself to a slanted work surface.
I've made my own day!!! And, as the old saying goes....if I just help just one person out there.......lol.

i will share what helps me...
my work areas are at counter height, i use a bar stool/chair. i stand about as much as i sit if not more. i have a bad back so it bothers me to sit too long. i sit for a while... stand for a while...

I actually think this would be ideal....that's what the architects did....but I have plantar faciitis (sore heels) so I can't stand for any length of time. TFS!!

I set my room up so I'm forced to get up and move around to get supplies, bad back and the shoulder is getting worse. The little bit of height makes a big difference for getting up from a sitting position so I can where this would help and I'm pulling out my 2" binder and giving it a try. Thanks for the tip Jo!
I twigged a while ago and tilted my sewing machine. I have always insisted that my grandsons used a sloped surface for their work, and found that using those door wedges under the legs of the table were good. With the items sliding off, a small length of slating type wood nailed across the edge of the table keeps it from the floor. Most items I use are in plastic drawers that can be Blu tacked onto the surface so they don't slide off. I am still working and refining my own system.
I actually have a drafters table and chair I got from Dick Blick. It was on sale for $99. It came with the chair, table tray, and the light!!! I find my self standing for cutting, stamping and gluing and sitting for coloring.
Great idea! I tossed around the idea of this type of table but the cost was too much.
I ended up buying pvc piping and put in under the legs of my table to raise it up. I either stand or use a stool if I want to sit. Has made all the difference in the world (and I have arthritis in my neck).
I am a standing stamper. I can't sit for long because of the pressure stamping puts on my shoulders. But if I stand over my work, it is much better. Also my work station is set up so I have to move about a bit to get to most things. Isn't it funny how the simplest things in life make our lives so much easier - a 3-ring binder! I like the binder idea, you can probably put a piece of that rubber sheet that you put between china plates or the type you put under a rug from slipping. It can be cut to any size. I am going to see if that works to stop the slipping.
I use my lap top table I got from cvs for $14.99 it is height ajustable and you can tilt it plus it is on wheels so you can move it out the way when you don't want to use it.
Before my surgery to correct a ruptured disc, I couldn't sit at all. I purchased a "chair" that I'm sure has a name which I don't know, but is designed more for kneeling and resting the rear on a cushion. The height can be adjusted so I can have things higher or lower depending on what I do. Now that my back is all better, I still use it--that is when I'm not standing which I got in the habit of doing when I couldn't sit. I love my chair. It was surprisingly cheap, too. I got it at our locl Staples.
