Besides scrapbooking, what else do you use 12x12 cardstock for?
Ive been out of the loop stamping for quite some time now. Ive been going through my stamps, supplies and accessories and purging away!
I found a bunch of 12x12 Cardstock & DSP.. and Im debating how much I really need to keep. I dont scrapbook and usually only make cards. Sometimes I do try out a new technique or tutorial for a 3D item and know some of it requires 12 x 12. But I cant remember what those were.. So what do you all use your 12x12 cardstock for?? TIA
I was just making a tri-shutter card this evening - that calls for 12" width.
I use a lot of 12x12 for various 3D projects, if those appeal to you. Milk boxes, mini pizza boxes...And I use it for layering and for die-cuts, too.
Something I learned from Jennifer McGuire (to give credit where due): she used the 12 x 12 paper as a base to make decorative paper that can be used for backgrounds or die cut or cut with punches and who knows what else. I may not be remembering exactly, but here goes...she cut lots of decorative paper into strips of varying widths (a good way to use up scraps or paper you may not use or be crazy about) and then glued the strips onto the 12 x 12 paper at a diagonal until the 12 x 12 paper was covered with the paper strips. Then you can use this 'new' paper for whatever you want. It really came out great.
I am not a scrapbooker so I rarely have 12 x 12 paper, but I liked this so much that I actually went out and bought a few packs of 12 x 12 white paper to use as the base for this technique.

It also comes in handy to make envelopes and/or liners for pre-made envies. Lots of tools or templates available to do either. I generally make cards to fit envies I have on hand and am waaaay to lazy (and last-minute) to line them.
I have sometimes used patterns I no longer liked to wrap small gifts for DH's stocking gifts at Christmas. Since I wrap at the last minute there sometimes aren't enough scraps left so I make sure to do the larger packages first. And use "ugly to paper" for whatever I can. He's just as happy I have left "crap" around and didn't buy another roll of wrapping paper.
Yeah as far as the DSP goes... There's always something you can do with it.. ;-) Its more the cardstock packs of 12x12 from SU that I bought and have sitting around. Lol
I also make covered journals; if you do the inside covers too this can use up most of 4 sheets of 12x12.
When I have two of the same design that I don't really like I often make a gift bag out of them. Great way to use those ugly sheets and get them out of the house. When you make ugly paper into a gift bag it somehow looks more attractive!

That technique sounds quite like the Herringbone tutorial we have HERE.
It takes a little time, but it's certainly a great way of using up less favourite papers as they take on a totally different look when used up like this!

It's exactly the same technique except the pattern in which the strips were glued to the 12 x 12 base is different. Thanks for sharing the SCS tutorial - the Herringbone pattern is great - I guess you could glue the strips down into all kinds of patterns - the old 'the sky's the limit'

Splitcoast published a Product Focus review this morning for Kreate-a-box Templates . They are easy to use for functional, useable, 3-D gift bags and boxes and use 12x12 paper. You can read the review, and there is a link on the right column of that page to a special SCS gallery using the templates.
There are several types of cards that use 12" x 12" card stock -- tri-shutter card and z-fold card just to name two. I also just bought a Technique Junkies Newsletter CD, and several of the cards used 12" x 12" card stock, one in particular is a double display card, which I am definitely going to try.

Oh that sounds interesting.. double display card. I have to try to look that one up!
And if you have any left after all those bags and oversized cards, you can use it as a mat for inking edges on or blotting under markers.
I think I'd be more likely to purge DSP than CS. I'm always looking for the right colour mat to put with an image and paper.
If the storing the size bothers you, why not cut most of it down to make and heir and a spare.
LOL I have so MUCH DSP TOO!! I find though my style of cardmaking is very clean and simple. I have probably about 30 plus packs of NIP SU Cardstock plus tons of other colors from SU Retired line.. then PTI.. then Amuse..LOL So finding the right color isnt a problem. haha
I just have way to much stuff and dont care to store anymore of it.. so Im purging until I have a manageable stash. I just pulled out over 200 different sheets of DSP to get rid of and thats not counting all the SU DSP I have NIP too..
Jennifer I need to purge so badly. I am going to go thru all my racks of DSP and purging for a sale. I can use the money to buy more dies to sell on my website. I am also hopibg to cut dowm my stamp collection.
Big job but will love the recovered space.
Blessings.
I make gift bags, gift boxes and purses with SVG files. I have a ton.
One of my favorite talented designer's is Lauren Meader from My Time Made Easy. Pretty Packaging
I use most of my scrapbooking paper for cards. I also have some purchased years ago that are just not my taste so I either make envelopes out of it or even use some for gift wrapping small items.
