I am at the moment sick of cutesy stamps. The ones with bears holding flowers, fairies wearing flowers, cutesy cartoon animals that are anatomically incorrect and sentiments that look like they've been scribbled.
Amen ! I never like these to begin with!

I really am behind the times. What is "steampunk"?
Wanda
If you want to have a look at "steampunk" cards, just type steampunk in the search box of the SCS Gallery. It's not my style at all, but some people do some pretty amazing cards in that style.
And for a bigger definition of it, go to Wikipedia and type in Steampunk. It's more than just cards - it's a whole art / history / literature movement.

I can't say that I am "over" a trend. After years of stamping and scrapping I know what I like and what my style is. If I see a card on SCS that I love then I'll CASE it but add my style to it.
In past years, when I was new to this craft, I'd jump on the bandwagon in a minute (and being an SU demo didn't help matters because I "needed" to demo it!). But now I just buy what I like and since I've become a hobby demo I don't "have" to buy everything.
It's what my DH says: "It's chocolate and vanilla." Everyone has their own taste and style.
I have another one! I am so over "Cricut sneeze". I own a Cricut too, ROFL! The ladies and guys who use the whole cart on one LO or card. I know these carts are expensive but you don't have to use the whole cartridge. Since the Gypsy has came out it's gotten worse. Now, you can mix several cartridges and shove them all on one LO or card. Editing to add I do like the Cricut cards and designs when the cuts tell a story or have a beautiful scene.
I will never be over steampunk though, lol. I love anything retro and vintage.
I don't think I'm over anything. People always seem to come up with new and exciting ways to use things and I'm constantly wow'd by everyone's creativity!
I'm so over Prima flowers. I have bottles of them sitting on my shelf that I look at but never use.
I've been making my own flowers lately using Martha Stewart's Layered Daisy punch and other flower punches. By making them with my own papers, I can have just the colors I want. Plus I like the whole "handmade" look better than adding purchased ready-made flowers.

I'm no longer up-to-date on what is trendy. But for myself in my own personal card-making, I am tired of cars. I have one nephew that loves cars, and because I myself feel no particular love for cars, I only have a handful of stamp sets of cars (versus a freakin' ton of sets for girlie stamps) so I find myself stamping the same dang cars over and over and over and over. I JUST bought two new stamp sets of cars because I am so tired of the car stamps I already have. I have one niece and two nephews and I adore making cards for my niece, but sometimes I stare morosely at the "boy" stamps before forcing myself to make two boy cards (I can't very well send a card ONLY to my niece!). Yup, plain, flat-out tired of cars.
I love reading these threads. I am more of a lurker than a poster here. I don't really have much to add. Just when I think I am over a trend, I see someone create something amazing. :-)
I'm one with the kid thing. I don't get the kids with big heads and doey eyes. And the shape of some of those boddies. The way clowns creep out some - those kid stamps creep me out.
This has been such a fun/funny thread to read! It makes me so happy to hear other people talk about some of the images they don't care for anymore. Honestly, there is a brand of big headed kid stamps out there that freak me out SO much that I had to unsubscribe from one ladies blog because she is a design team member and I just couldn't stand to look at her blog anymore even though I love her style! (there! I said it!). I too am over birds, owls, cupcake and coffee stamps. Having said that, Nichole Heady can make me like just about anything - darn her and her amazing Papertrey Ink Company! Lol! I think I will always love die cuts and I used to hate floral images but I have become more fond of some of them. I am not much of a grunge fan either I guess because there is a certain person out there with HIS own line of stuff that I feel like, really? You ladies really think he is all that and a bag of chips?? (now I've probably made some enemies-lol!). Thanks for a therapeutic laugh/confession session to start my morning! Love SCS!
The images of kids with big heads and no mouths...
AMEN SISTER!! I've always hated them. I don't think they're cute, they're really creepy, kind of like the cabbage patch kids. I thought those were SO UGLY I was glad my son was the only one around when they were popular.
What an amazing and talented community we stampers comprise! Though some trends do not appeal to us, we are still able to admire the talented works of each other. Life would be boring if we were all alike.
Though my dislikes include the big-headed images or headless ones, I love looking at and am inspired by the cards created by those who appreciate them.
Thanks to all of you for sharing. I am sure the recipients of your cards are very appreciative.
Images that look like a second grader drew them. Why buy it as a stamp when you can draw that yourself???
I concur! I also don't understand the need for dies that cut a shape you can easily accomplish - like a "library card" or "label" that is nothing but a rectangle with rounded corners. Really?! I have a paper cutter and a Corner Chomper, and I'm fairly proficient with both...
Ditto on some of the other dies: unless you're mass-producing the bouquet or cloud or whatever, why not just use your scissors? I DO understand punches or dies for complicated shapes (medallions, doilies) or shapes that need to be symmetrical (hearts, snowflakes), so I'm all good there.
I'm another one who has been buying OLD stamp sets from the B/S/T forum - Happy Winter and Balmy Breezes and Yule Bits and Borders and Winter Patches and Stitched Santa and Sun, Moon, Stars - LOVE them! Just can't seem to care about "trends"...
For me it is distressed paper and or grunge.
I don't want to give a card that looks like I bought paper from a bargain bin because it was not printed correctly and then drove my car over the card for good measure.
I am also over sewing on cards.
I got a real chuckle over your description. Good one! I'm not into the shabby look either. Vintage (other than birds with designs on them) is pretty but grunge looks shabby to me and sending a shabby looking card.....well.....all I can say politely is.........to each his own.
Boy, I am glad to see that all people are not trends followers. When someone has a great idea (in a way of making or decorating a card or a nice image or stamp) it won't take long that we'll be submerged with that style or image. It looses all it's interest by being seen everywhere.....Companies are there to empty our pockets and make us buy more and more. I'm not in that bandwagon, I buy if I love it not because it's trendy. I hope I have enough personality to not being told what to wear, or make, or buy. I think that hadmade isn't "machine cut things" neither. I don't want to insult anybody because erveryone has his tastes and it's a good thing for the industry...
I agree with Sewsplendidstamper, I am very over chipboard. And someone else commented about stamps that you need to use as components of bigger designs, like snowflakes and flowers- I am totally done with putting things together. No more cutting and painting my own embellishments. I never get tired of my stamps, like pennants, chandeliers or the little hats from two years ago. I like them, I use them, whatever makes me happy on a particular project. I'm all about stamping and coloring now, simple, easy, very few supplies.
-c
I never got on the bandwagon for most of the items listed, so It doesn't bother me. The one item I have that I don't hardly use is the eyelets....I have a number of them so I try once in a while to get creative and find a way to use them that's different (for me that is) I still love vintage and birdcages and butterflies, I think the owls can be cute but have never used them on my own cards. I still appreciate seeing how other stampers can get creative and I happen to love the use of digi stamps and consider it to be just another form of stamping.
Some of these are making me cry. I love Butterflies, Owls, & Russian Nesting Dolls. I look forward to RubberStampMadness with glee. You girls are killing me, lol. I have one that is controversial. I am tired of Copics! There you go! I am sure some girls and guys are glaring at my post now or crying.
Some magazines are indispensable, like Rubber Stamp Madness, Vamp Stamp News, Stampers Sampler and Somerset Memories. However, I agree with the other poster that I am very tired of the magazines that are mostly just to advertise product (CK, I'm talking to YOU!)
I usually decide I like a trend just MOMENTS before it is over. I really admire people's Steampunk thingys but can't ever imagine being able to do it myself. One of the DTGD challenges today involves distressing and it has actually made me grind to a halt - NO IDEA where to even start.
I love birds but can't put them in cages. I have just bought a fun new chair set as I love those, lamps too. Don't know why!
Struggling to think of anything I truly loathe, oh no, I know, really horrible people stamps! Like "Holiday Lineup" or the new "Howl-o-ween Creeps" from SU. Bleurgh!
I'm with you. I cannot put the birds in the birdcages either. If I use a birdcage it's with flowers around it and empty or the bird is on the outside of the cage as though free at last.

I completely understand. Though I love my copics - I think it has still averaged out about $50 per card at the moment just on that supply!

I may check those out. But I stopped buying magazines a long time ago because I just felt that the same ideas would be on the internet somewhere and I didn't need to pay someone to advertise products to me.
FWIW I know hot air balloons have been a trend. I looking for just the right one to add to my collection because I love them and I will use them long after the trend is over.
I am so over one trend that is actually still "current" or very early in it's trendiness - steampunk. And I'm not even getting on that train, let alone wait at the station....that is a style that doesn't appeal to me AT ALL - but to each their own. Butterflies however - love them!

That made me chuckle.
There's one stamp company with a lot of big headed kid stamps that remind me very much of the Rugrats cartoon that used to be on Nickelodeon. They don't weird me out, but they aren't something I'd ever buy.
I have to say that the Bella stamps never appealed to me, with their spindly arms and triangular mouths.
I've also never cared for using staples to attach anything to a project - embellishments, photos on a layout, whatever.
Oh, and House Mouse stamps. Some of them are cute, but I've seen a lot where the animals, IMO, look kind of spaced out or something. I know many people like them, but they're not for me.

I totally agree, Donelle! I don't like the look personally, nor do I know anyone that would appreciate getting a "dirty" card! :???:
I can't even imagine what the designers have to go thru to stay ahead of all of us. Products are continually changing and by the time it gets to the store, us crafters are tired of seeing it already! We all have "hordes" of stuff that was "a good idea at the time!" I have so many wooden mounted rubber stamps, I'll never be able to use them all-again it was the fad of the times-I don't want another wood mounted anything!
I agree with the copics. I don't think it's "copic envy". Bought one just to see how it colored and I thought I could do the same or similar thing with my SU! markers. I agree the owl thing never grabbed me and I whole-heartedly agree that digi-stamping is NOT stamping, entirely different art form.
I've just finished reading this whole thread and loved it! I think I'm just a stamper who marches to my own tune ... lol. I use whatever I think the person I'm making card for would like. Geez, disappointed to find out I'm not trendy. lol
I do have say that I am not into pennants at all. As for cupcakes, I won't be buying any of those unless I can stick my finger in the frosting. There are some beautiful cards out there with these products though and I enjoy looking at them.
Hmm...
Wings, party hats, strange body parts. They all creep me out.
Grunge makes me feel the need for a bath.
Staples,big bows, buttons.
Owls make me think of grannies.
The design makes the card. A good design helps any stamped image look better and a bad design can make even the best image look bad.
Wouldn't it be a terribly boring world if we all liked the same thing?
I try to steer clear of overly embellished cards as I worry about mailing them. So I guess I am tired of card designs that over use buttons, ribbons and other 3D stuff!
I LOATHE OWLS...I had a PRECIOUS 3lb Chihuahua that was the SWEETEST thing ever...(not the typical yap yap, growling kind but the wag wag kiss-y kiss-y kind) Everyone who met her LOVED her and could not believe she was a sweet Chihuahua...well one night I was letting her out in the back yard before bed time...and a HUGE OWL came swooping down and snatched her up right before my eyes and that was the last I saw and heard from her as she was yelping until I heard no more!!!
There are several owl nests in the neighbors trees and I HATE them!!!
I miss her terribly and I can't believe that they used my baby for dinner.
Blessings,
Valerie
P.S. I never get tired of Butterflies!!! I LOVE what they represent to me spiritually and their Majestic Beauty that come from a caterpillar!!! Simply amazing...one of the few Miracles that I get to actually witness...just amazing!!!

Oh my goodness Valerie, my heart goes out to you in the terrible thing that happened with your darling dog! I can't imagine how painful that must have been for you (and would still be). Being a huge dog lover that I am, I could cry just thinking about it. Hugs to you.
Butterflies are indeed miraculous aren't they. To think an ugly caterpillar could become a beautiful colorful butterfly is really something. Have a Happy Wednesday.

OMG Valerie that is sickening! I know it is nature, but ----
I am sure you will never recover from seeing that. Your hatred of Owls is totally understandable . I would hate them too if that happened to me.

What an interesting thread. For me, I never and still don't like Prima's. They remind me of old flower arrangements you got a at garage sale. Never got on the chipboard wagon. And even though I love the cards with gorgeous bows to look at, they get all smooshed when you mail them or put them in an envelope. I've tried to do some shappy chic stuff, and am never successful, so I'll just admire what others can do with it.
I love buttons, twine, a little DP, and a little ribbon. Those are my favorite embellishments.
This all being said, isn't it great that we all have our own creative styles, and can make our cards exactly the way we want? I'm slowly learning to be happy with what I make and like, and appreciate what other people can do with their talents!
