Default White cardstock question

I am looking for a heavy white cardstock to use as cardbases only. I know PTI and GinaK have heavy white cardstock, and is great paper for copics. I just want paper that is for cardbases only. (in bulk)

In the OfficeMax catalog I found FIREWORX paper by Boise, that has white in 90 lb and 110 lb. Does anyone know if that is heavy or not?

The reason I ask is, Georgia Pacific paper that Wal-Mart sells says it is 110 lb, but it is thin compared to other cardstock like GinaK and SU.

Does anyone have the OfficeMax paper I mentioned or do you have another recommendation?

Thanks.

Trish

I've used the GP card stock from Walmart for my card bases ever since I started stamping....

I use Staples brand Matte Photo Paper. They have it often for $1 after easy rebate for 50 sheets. I don't know the weight, but it works great and you can't beat the price.

Now that you mention Staples, I noticed they have a section of colored cardstock...prices aren't too bad. I don't know if they had white, and they probably don't have this is bulk, but I just thought I would share this info. Check it out.

Somehow even I found GP 110 lb quite thin compared to PTI and GKD. I tried the Staples brand 110 lb paper, not that great either. Even I have not found a good source for this.

the weight of paper is not always an indicator of its sturdiness or thickness. you have to know the "label" for the paper as well -- text, cover, index.

it's complicated!

I was also using the Georgia Pac...but when it got low, I ordered from Gina K, and I love her white. I got her heavy duty, and there's no turning back!!

yup I use GP for almost everything now.
I do have my PTI for special orders that might require more thick, but for other stuff always GP

some really nice white that you can get in bulk is Neenah Solar White, with a smooth finish it comes in both an 80# (which works great for layers) and 110# for bases... ( the 110# is thicker then the pti white but very similar to the gkd base weight white.

at the moment I use Papertrey, unless I am going to be hand cutting the image. Then i use whatever cheap white stuff i got at Staples. Once it is stamped and cut you can't tell what it is!

I also have the Gina K heavy weight for one layer cards on which i use copics

I just received some samples of Crane paper to test out. It's 100% cotton (not wood pulp) and I have it in 90# and 110# in bright white and cream. The 110# feels great for card bases and I want to test out the 90# to see how it works with colored pencils, light watercoloring and general stamping.

hth,

Ditto that, I love Neenah solar white! I use both thicknesses, I buy the 80# by the ream, and just get a stack of the 110# (my XPEDX sells them loose as well) to keep on hand.

Gina also sells layering weight that I have used for the base too, though I do prefer the heavier weight.

That is what I want, a ream of the white for card bases, can I ask where you get your Neenah reams from?

Thanks.

Uncoated and Smooth Paper | CLASSIC Crest | Neenah Paper : Solar White

one of the things is you want to give them your email and they do have "sales" sometimes, last nov. there was a free shipping offer ( and this is very heavy reams of cs) so i stocked up...

I get the 80# weights at a west coast store called Paperzone ( no shipping) but, I would think any kind of wearhouse type store for papers would carry it that way (if you are not like me and dont live in the boon-docks) ;)

hth,

I third the Neenah classic crest solar white...luscious paper. My local paper store carries it, thankfully.

Another vote for Neenah Solar White. I purchase it by the ream from Xpedx, which is local enough (20 minute drive). I also purchase my envelopes there.

I use the GP from Walmart for my card base, while I would like to have something a little heavier, for the price and as few white card bases I make it a good deal. I alo do not make cards with 100 layers either, usually 2-4 layers and it holds up ok.

I got this email and I emailed to see if it also applied for shipping to Canada, but they never even bothered to respond to my enquiry. I really wanted some more 80# to use with copics.

I usually use Wausau Exact Index 110# for my card bases. I can get it locally at Office Depot and it works great with copics as well. It holds up to my heavier cards as well. For single layer cards, I love Domtar Cougar super smooth bright white 130#. It is the best heavy cardstock I have found anywhere - and my printer will handle it so I can use it with copics - and its perfect for making boxes.

If Neenah is what you want, ditto on the paper warehouse idea. I used to buy reams of Neenah at a local paper warehouse. You can touch and feel individual sheets before you buy. Neenah also comes in Linen texture that's fine enough so you can still stamp on it. Also it comes in cream, which I love. I used more of the cream than the white for bases, actually. And if you DO find a paper warehouse, often they will have boxes of 250 envelopes which match the paper.

Now I use Papertrey and Gina K as a base.

I bought mine at a paper distributor (Coast Paper) here in Calgary, but its distributed all over North America. You could try going to Domtar.com to see who carries it in your area.

Default White Cardstock question

I used to use the GP 110 weight and quite liked it. Then I tried Staples 110Lb wieght and like it better. I like the finish ,and it colors and makes boxes that are sturdy. I know someone who also bought 110 lb paper there and it is not the same sturdiness as mine. I also recall reading that all 110 paper will not feel the same and I canot remember the reasoning. I belive I read it here and they said it depended on a number of things, not just the weight of the paper. Its more expensive than GP but I like the results.

I use the white #110 cardstock from Staples. Like its weight & feel for my card bases. It serves my purpose well. If you layer your card it does not get too heavy. (usually don't do more than 3 mats plus maybe a paper pieced item)

Our church craft group makes & donates cards for sale. The money goes to a food/clothes closet that the Church helps finace. Many of the church members/buyers are elderly and can't easily get to a PO to have their outgoing mail weighed, I want my cards to be sent with 1 stamp.

I bought a ream of GP from WalMart because of the positive comments here. I was disappointed because it wasn't a bright white, went back to Staples. Compared side by side, the GP had almost a little tinge of gray. (maybe just to my eyes)

I make cards just for myself to donate or give to card causes. Since my cards are not for a publication but just for my feeble creative outlet, I think I'll stick with Staples since the price is resonable.

I noticed this too. We can't get the GP paper here in Canada anymore where I am, but I did have some left from a project a few years back. It does look grey when compared to either Staples brand or Wausau cardstock

I use the GP white for most of my card bases. I'm going to have to check these other brands out now.

In the OfficeMax catalog I found FIREWORX paper by Boise, that has white in 90 lb and 110 lb. Does anyone know if that is heavy or not?

Does anyone have the OfficeMax paper I mentioned or do you have another recommendation?

I have the FIREWORX 110 lb. and it's not heavy enough for base cards. I use it alot for layering, but it's too flimsy for base cards (I don't use copics). I get a ream of Pegasus Digital Cover by Smart Papers at my local paper warehouse (Papers Plus). It's 100 lb. and REALLY sturdy. Perfect for card bases. Holds up to however many layers you want to add to the card front without buckling. I get the Brilliant White, Digital Color Copy. Another thing I do to stretch my dollar is buy the 17 x 11 sheets. This cuts to four cards per sheet. It's so heavy I can't just fold the bases...I have to score them first. I LOVE this paper and wouldn't use anything else (except maybe PTI or Gina K, but I can't afford them for base cards!!). I never liked SU for card bases, as it's almost too lightweight.

I would suggest you find a local paper warehouse and check to see what they have to offer. WAAAYY cheaper!

Blessings,
Kat

I use Brilliant White #110 cardstock from Discount Cardstock. There is even a 130# option in the Brilliant White. Both are great for cardbases and just like the name says - Brilliant White!

Default Another Domtar user

I have been using Domtar "Lynx" or "Cougar" #100 Cover in both white and natural. I take the reams to Office Max and have it cut in half, so all I need to do is score the base. Although I would like to buy the paper locally, I haven't found it.

I buy it online here:

WHITE

NATURAL

The Domtar is heavier than the Neenah I have tried. I still use the Neenah for Copics, but for card bases Domtar is my go-to choice.

From Xpedx I get white Accent Opaque Digital Cover Smooth 80 lb. This is what we use at our printing business to print business cards on the laser printer. I was using 110 lb. Springhill Index Digital because I make massive amounts of cards for the troops but decided I wanted a little bit heavier card bases.

For cream I use Mohawk Via Satin 80 lb. Cream White.

Can anyone suggest a decent white 12x12 for scrapbook pages?

I have probably 5-6 brands of white paper and in 2-3 weights. The PTI & Gina K are good options but I love the Neenah Solar White for it's color and colorability (especially for Copics.

The Cat's Pajamas carries the Neenah in White and Natural in #110 - thick and sturdy for card bases - it's wonderful paper!!

Stampin up is 80lb. I use the 110 lb from staples or other office store If the Walmart paper is thinner than Stampin Up then they are lying. Paper weight is regulated and they aren't suppose to advertise a weight if it doesn't match regulation - it is the weight of 500 pieces of paper the size that they manufacture the paper in pre-cut (not the size they sell it in). This website has a lot of info on paper and what's what. I believe the cardstock we use is akin to "INDEX" (think index cards) and remember the 110lbs refers to the weight of 500 sheets of manufacturing sheets, which is 25 1/2 x 30 1/2. If the paper Walmart sells is index paper, and the weight of the manufacturing size does not weigh 110 lbs then they are illegally labeling it.

Thanks.

I checked out the discount cardstock. They have the 12x12 sheets.

Man are they expensive though! $50 for 250 8 1/2x11 sheets?? I get 110lb from Staples 250 pack for $15! I make WAY too many cards to pay $50 for it!

Default We have a store here called Paper Plus.......

.....(sigh).. I could live in that warehouse.

I couldn't believe the selection. I was in heaven!! The first time I shopped there I bought 5 (yes five) reams of different colored cardstock. I used up the navy blue (my fav) and the white in no time flat.

What a wonderful place. I hope Paper Plus can be found in heaven!
