I pulled out SU's Garden Whimsy set and am trying to use all the images (not the sentiments, which I don't like). I even checked out the gallery to try to get inspiration, but few of the cards there are really my clean-and-simple style...most of the really striking ones are layered to a fair-thee-well, LOL! I have made two OLC cards that I like, but I'm not in love.
When do you decide that a set just isn't your cup of tea and give up on it? Do you just get rid of it or put it away in hopes that one day you'll figure something to do with it? Care to share your thought process?
I have too many sets that I absolutely adore to waste my time trying to make stuff that's just OK. This is why I only have about 150 sets...I bet I have had 100 others go their merry way in the past year...they weren't LOVED.
Sell it...or trade it...for something you LOVE. If you fall in love with it again, there will be another one out there to buy or trade back.

Hey Susan - gotta agree with Cher! The BST forum here is fantastically full of sets that I just had to have, and I bought and love them. There are a few (very few) that I have bought that have limited use, but I still love the images and can't imagine getting rid of them. If you don't LOVE it, trade or sell it and get stuff you do LOVE!
It has really helped me to make sure I'm organized - I know exactly what I have and what I really truly can't live without from the newest catalog. I use the galleries here as inspiration for some of my older sets, and I'm sometimes pleasantly surprised at what I can come up with a little insipriation! Look at the catalog again and try to remember why you wanted that set in the first place - you may have changed your mind, in which case it is definitely time to trade up!
I'm going to check out your blog to see if you had a nice holiday!
I agree with Cher too! If I don't love it and use it much I try to get rid of it. Too many stamps taking up too much room and we all love getting new stamps to play with right? I'm much more careful what I purchase now no matter if it's on sale or I have a coupon or not. I only wish there was a great way to recover all the $$ I've spent on stamps I just don't like anymore coz you always lose money when reselling.

So where in Western WI are you??? I am halfway between Eau Claire and Hudson...in the tiny town of Glenwood City.

I've heard some people say if they haven't used a set in two years they get rid of it. I recently let go of over 100 sets, however I moved into a smaller house so I had a catalyst. If I didn't move I probably would still have them all.

Yeah, I don't have a space problem, so that's not an incentive for me. I worry that if I get rid of something, I'll find the perfect use for it and regret getting rid of it. I did put a bunch in the far corner of my basement and haven't retrieved anything in 6 months.
It's silly, really, to hold onto them and all these people advising me to dump the ones that aren't "me" are totally right! But I need permission, I guess, LOL!
My issue with getting rid of sets (even if I haven't used them much as of late) is that I can't fathom selling it for so little. Seems to me that the BST forum (as awesome as it is) is full of the same sets that people are getting rid of, and at a pretty low price - so I know I won't be able to recoup what I paid or even close to it (unless anyone else had had different dealings, then I'd love to know!)
I am, however, in the midst of revamping my stamping area - and have begun the process of a more detailed inventory of my sets. Once I'm done with that, I'll see what I have that seems similar to other sets and see what I feel I can part with (I've heard holding a "Crafters Sale/Garage Sale" can sometimes be worth the time.
I recently sold a set to one of my customers. When she put it in her purse as she was leaving, I had an almost overwhelming urge to knock her over the head and take it back...I need help...;)
I have also found that if I wanted to get my money back on an item (haven't sold any sets yet, but wanted to clean out some embellishments and sizzix dies) I went closer to home. I told my crafty friends I was trying to clean some stuff out, and several of them offered me more than I would have made anywhere else for my stuff. Always try the path of least resistance first!
And yes, getting rid of stuff does get easier the more you do it, because new stuff is always coming out; and besides, once you see the empty space and have the $ in hand, you know you can fill it with NEW exciting stuff!
