Tell me, have you ever bought a stamp or stamp set that you felt like you had to have.. but then when you got it, you just haven't been able to create anything with it???
I bought two stamp sets from My Favourite things (you take the cake and the bubbles ones). The stamps are beautiful and I saw so many lovely cards made with those. I knew that they are not *quite* my style, but thought I would still want to give them a go. I have been playing with the cake one today and no no no, it is just not happening. I am feeling miserable *sigh*. Should I just sell the set?? Or store it and hope that one day I will use it?
I would also love to hear which stamp you bought and just didn't end up using.. and why did you buy it? *curious*.

I am so glad I DIDN'T buy Mixed Bouquet. I love every sample I see with it, but when I borrow if from my friend I think my 5 year old does a nicer job than I do!
For one I purchased...I have given up on In Full Bloom. I love the samples I see...but I just don't have the knack for it, I guess...:(
Wow! I am exactly there with In Full Bloom. I made something great at a stamp camp, had to have it, and now I never like my stuff with it. Now Mixed Bouquet is a different story for me. I don't have any My Favourite Things sets, but I totally know where you're coming from.
Oh, yeah -- here's another one. Fresh Flowers. I've had that set for years, and I haven't made it work for me. However, I saw someone use a similar set with fun foam embossing, and I'm going to try that before getting rid of it for good.
I am sooo happy to hear that I am not the only one with this problem. It is always difficult to decide whether to just get rid of it when it doesn't feel quite right or keep it for a bit longer.

I just had to have Riveting, I thought it was wonderful, and loved all the examples I had seen people making with this set, but possibly because I don't have the correct sized punches for it, I haven't used it!!!! not good so know exactly where you are coming from - you can always send me your MFT sets!!!! lol
I have been trying to be good and have just gone through all my stamps that I have bought and not used for a very long time and am in the process of getting rid of them so as not to keep cluttering up my drawers. I am finding this incredibly difficult because I am a borne hoarder!!! lol
I had to have Roses in Winter and I'm struggling with that. Just can't get it to look like samples I have seen. Guess I'm going to have to keep practicing.
Don't give up yet! For me--for my first try, I like to CASE one that I have seen and liked. Once I do that, it seems to come easier. I wouldn't sell yet, but if you do decide to--PM me, I might be interested! I have Charge It and Hot Stuff--and I love them! I want more My Favorite Things stamps.
I don't have one set, I have about 10 that I can't use. Finally decided that some of the one's I just had to have are really not my style. I love to color, but can't do artsy stuff! This also happened to me with the scalloped circle and oval punches. Found out after I bought them, that I am definitely Not a circle/oval person. Sold them right away, because I hate things sitting around that I can't/won't use, that makes me feel even worse.

Hey, I could have written this post almost word-for-word (I haven't looked at any MFT sets yet! But that doesn't mean I wouldn't welcome some new rubbah into my craft space LOL!)
Do you remember which size circle punches work best w/Riveting (feeling too lazy to look for the info)?
For me it was Roses in Winter. Talk about feeling bad about not getting a set to work! I hear all the time, "You can't make a bad card with that set" UGH I felt like a total failure, cuz NOTHING I made looked good to me. After a few dozen failed attempts I finally gave in and got rid of it.
I think if you try to use a set that doesn't "speak" to you, unless you really push yourself, you're going to run into this sometimes. I'm a more whimsical stamper, I really like silly cute images and have a really hard time with the "formal, elegant" type stuff.

Good luck.

I do this too! If I can't a set to work, I case a few cards from others and that either gets the juices flowing or at the very least builds my confidence!

Not off the top of my head but 1 1/4 and 1 3/8 is ringing a bell but I am sure somebody will be able to tell you better than me, not sure what the middle one is though
Artfully Asian here! Actually, can't really remember why I *had* to have it...
Oooh I love Artfully Asian (but don't have it!!!lol) loooove the samples in the gallery with it, my friend recently bought this so hopefully will be able to borrow it!! tee hee hee
I bought the Like It A latte that I can't seem to do anything with either. I made one card with it is all. I think we all have at least one set like that but if you have bought many sets then you must have more than one.
What one person finds difficult others have no problem with. I love the In Full Bloom set. It is one of my favorites actually.

The middle circle in Riveting is 1/2 inch.

Mine is Favorite Teddy Bear. Can't do a thing with it :(
Me either! First mistake was it isn't my style at all...second was I was sooo new to stamping when I bought it. I bought $150 worth of stamp sets at a time b/c my mom gave me that for my b-day...I was grasping at that point to come up with $150 b/c I was so new I didn't know what I needed....oh to get to do that over again!

I give up stamps sets all the time!
I use most of them a few times and then I am bored with them and trade them to get "new" stamps
There are a few that I will never trade (for now) like Roses In Winter, Wild About You, most of my background stamps, Big Blooms and a few sentiment sets that I love.
I just love everyone's comments.....just knowing I'm not the only one. My set that I HAD to have is "Fairyland" I love the set but can't seem to do anything with the big stamp. I've done some with the little ones in the set but I love the main stamp. OH WELL .....nice to know it's not just me.
I'm glad I'm not the only one!
I often get a set, mount it, and then say to myself "Now why did I think
I had to have this set??"
A bunch of the latest I "had to have" are now retiring before I even got them mounted!!!
I guess we (women) really are fickle!!
I bought 3 sets from my favorite things. The baby set is still in the package b/c when I realized I wasn't using you take the cake and let's go for a walk I figured better to leave the baby set in the package for when I finally accept that I need to sell them.*sigh* They're not really my style but I thought I could make them work since I love to color. It's not happening...
Oh, I'm a Roses in Winter failure too. If you think you feel bad being a customer and not being able to make that set work, imagine being a demo and not being able to use it. I'm lucky Shelli Gardner hasn't put a hit out on me:mrgreen:

If it helps I have a tons of cards in my gallery with both of those sets. Case away!!!

Oh jeanne.. your cards are soooo gorgeous! I love looking at them!
But I think that I am going to sell my sets.. it just wasn't meant to be. I think I would like to receive all the beautiful cards made with those sets, but just don't seem to want to make any with them. Oh well, I just ordered some new stamps yesterday, so time to start waiting for those to arrive.. and yes, they are definitely my style.. and not even birds *LOL*. Oops.. i have actually ordered bird ones, too *ROFL*.

I had to have Just Cause I Like You from last year's spring mini... I've tried it but yeah it's not happening!! I've given up in it! It was one of my first SU purchases.
Mine is Favorite Teddy Bear. Can't do a thing with it :(
I have a very adorable (imho) card that has a cut-out teddy bear image and a stippled shadow. It was a non-SU stamp but easily adaptable to FTB.
With the server problems I am unable to access my gallery to provide a link but wanted to share this info in case you (or anyone else) would find it helpful.
Most of the times I include a lot of details but PM if you have any questions (once you're able to look for it).
I loved all the cards I saw here with Well Worn Words as a background. So I got it. I think I have 1 successful bg turn out. Nothing seems to work, can't make out the image. I haven't given it much of a chance lately.
I am learning what my style is, though, and not spending money on sets I end up not using. Now if the new catalogue would just get here!

Have you tried inking it with a brayer? That's the only way I get a good image
For me it's "Stay Tuned"...I love the way it looks with the cute retro TV and stuff....but what the heck can I make with it???? Nothing thats what
Dione- I just made a B-Day card with the TV from this set. I had so much fun with it!! I can already see a ton of options with it. I masked the TV and stamped the girl from "Stampin' Fun for Everyone" inside. I put a layer of crystal laquer over the sceen so it really looks 3D like a TV screen. You can put lots of "things" in the TV. Even real photos of someone! FUN! I hope you don't give up on it.
I am enjoying all of the comments so far. I know I've gotten lots of sets (many given to me) that I couldn't think of a darn thing to do with. I've kept them, but I've decided this year to clean house and give up those sets that haven't been used in awhile (or ever).
Yes, I have had that happen. I would think about nothing but a certain set I had to have all the time, then when I finally get it, I can't imagine why I wanted it so badly. I have recently traded Heartfelt Thanks, I like others cards with it, but personally I was over it. That is the first time i have let a set go, and it felt pretty good after, but debated if it was the right thing to do for weeks. I don't know why I find it hard to think about getting rid of a set that just sits on my desk unused, unloved, not seeing any ink, it is like letting go of a family member or something! I think I need counselling! LOL!
it has been so good reading all of these! It is funny how hard it is to give up a stamp set even if you know you are not going to use it. I suppose there is always that thought in the back of the head that I *might* use it one day.

I have tons of sets that I got that I can't make work for me :-) I know it's time to trade or sell some of these. I did this last year as well and I traded and sold many stamp sets that hadn't touched ink or had only been inked up once or twice.

I have a lot of sets that I don't know what to do with....but as time goes on and I learn more, then I see the beauty of the stamp. I wish SU would include a blurb from the artist as to what they were thinking when they designed it. What is supposed to go where etc. Sometimes I wish they would come with instructions!
I also buy sets that I like, are unique, don't really know what to do with it, then when I am in the midst of a project, I find an unused stamp that will be 'perfect' for the piece.
