Crumb Cake is the same as Kraft. Pacific Point is an older in-color.
The new colors are Daffodil Delight, Early Espresso, Cherry Cobbler, Marina Mist, and Cajun Craze (an orange).
And although we haven't gotten to see the new in colors, from the names, I believe these new in colors will fill some of the spaces that others think are lacking in the new color groups.
I have all the colors and have since right before the change five years ago. I remember how upset I was b/c I had just invested quite a bit to get started without any warning that some of it was frankly down the drain. I say this b/c I think we need to be sensitive to those who might NOT be to excited that they just bought $125 markers for instant. And with the economy like it is..... Just saying. I am glad SU had fore thought to warn demos to keep retiring in colors but did they warn buying customers? Not just of the in colors but also color family sets, markers, inks, ect.
I think this is a high estimate. Where are you getting that figure? SU has done all they can to minimize the impact on demonstrators. If you look at it there are only 5 new, never before seen colors, the rest are either current colors or returning in colors. And demos were told a year ago not to get rid of retired In-colors. New kits will be made available to update things like crayons, pastels and markers. No one will have to buy complete new sets of these. All in all SU has done a great job with this change. There has been two years of research, sales analysis, and focus groups that has gone into this. Yes, there will be some demo impact but I think the change is long overdue and will be well received once people have time to adjust and see all the colors for themselves.
Well 29 colors are retiring and that is what I was referring to. Many demos buy the inks, papers, markers, ribbons, reinkers, etc. for the entire color line. And to have those suddenly not be items that they can demonstrate it could easily $500 if that is the case.
I'm not for or against the change, because I just really don't care one way or the other anymore. I still use the colors when they suit the project I am working on and will probably get some of those newer colors because they look interesting. I am just stating that it could be a wallet buster for some, that's all. And in times where income is down for many, they won't be able to recover or replace their initial investment.
I just LOVE the new colors! Just about every old in-color I loved is being brought back, with the exception of Purely Pomegranate. I will miss a few of the older colors.. I really liked Barely Banana, Summer Sun and Bordering Blue, but I'm in love with that new Marina Mist, and the Daffodil one is pretty too. I'm not a demo... I can understand the apprehension from a demo's point of view, but as a customer, this is exciting!
As for PTI, I love most of those colors too. No reason why we can't have everything we like (if we can afford it). If I like one of PTI's colors better, I buy from them. No biggie. There are many entrees on the stamping buffet!
I definately understand why some customers or demos could be upset or feel they have wasted money on retiring colors.
I would hope customers would just love their stuff as much as they did before they knew it was retiring. Demos I really feel for, I can see a new demo being really freaked out by this.
I do think the new colors look fresh and yummy though. But I'm not tied in any way to SU. Demos I hope your customers are excited like me and buy new stuff to make your investment worth it.

I will miss Almost Amethyst, Bordering Blue and Yo Yo Yellow. I know a lot of people do not like Yo Yo, so I'm not surprised that it is leaving. Most of my favorites are staying. I didn't like the in-colors this year. So I'm not too happy about them staying! I've always wished Cool Caribbean would come back. Marina Mist looks close, but a bit darker. The Espresso looks like a great brown.

Erin...I have like 11 packages of Cool Caribbean..It is one of my all time favs...even with that many packages I still hoard it...lol. I have multiple packages of all the retired IN-Colors as well as their ink pads and refills so at least I wont have to purchase all new stuff.
blessings.

Products get discontinued all the time without a warning to the consumer or even the seller.
It is not as though the people are not going to be able to use the products anymore and they have to toss them. If people don't want to use them because they aren't the most current colors collection, then that is their choice.
For demos they can choose to either us the retired products for personal projects or sell them and recoup some of their money. I think many demos will be able to recoup the costs of having to buy the new colors from either selling retired color or from the sales that they will make from customer buying the new products.

I'm down to one pack. It's devistating.
I did fine an exact match in ribbon and have like 80 yards of that still.
sigh.

SERIOUSLY though? No Cool Caribbean? CAn we not discuss this horror.
I totally agree! I'm a hobby demo so the impact on me is basically the same as on a customer (I have one event a year).
For me the best color combo of all time is Cool Caribbean, Real Red, Basic Black and Whisper White. Oh it was so sharp it always made me want to just stare at it!
I also am a HUGE fan of Kiwi Kiss and am sooooo sad that it's not coming back. I did stock up on a few things from the Clearance Rack at a super low price so I'll just have to continue to ration that (but I'd love some more cardstock in that color).
I am still confused as to why on earth they kept Dried Blood (AKA Bravo Burgandy). Ugh it's so dark that it's just like a bad brown rather than a deep red.
Oh well it's just ink and paper and variety is the spice of life! Maybe I'll challenge myself to use it to make a card and give it a chance.
Happy stampin everyone (whether you enjoy SU or not).
I'm a complete and total color freak, so I'm all for any plan that gets me more colors. I think the new collections are gorgeous and a welcome improvement to SU's offerings. And as others have said, not really that huge a change. Yes, lots of colors are retiring, but adding just one new color per month to your collection would get you all of the new colors in less than a year. I probably won't buy them all at once, but I know that my color freak self will want them all eventually. I'm just happy that my ink pad storage system has room for 200 pads and is barely half full!

LOL, lots of color freaks around here! Me too, which is why I have Adirondack, Memento, ColorBox, Versafine, Versamagic, SU! and a few other odds and ends.....
Sounds like you have a super ink storage system. Mine are segregated from each other in drawers in my cabinet.

It's simple - just two of the boxes meant to hold 100 cassette tapes (mine are Napa Valley brand, purchased on eBay), mounted very securely side by side on the wall by my super handyman (since even light picture frames fall off the wall when I hang them!) I even have a third box in the garage in case the powers that be should ever come out with enough colors to run me out of my current storage!

Well, I am a customer who likes to stay current. Plus, usually color combo challenges are not with retired colors. I have to say up front that I am pretty picky about things and like things organized and this might be a little thing but now my marker set with not be "right". Even IF I get the new colors my case holds 48 and there will be only 40 current colors 45 if I get the new in colors then 50 if I get the next years colors. What am I to do with my case? Just as one example.
Also, I think I was speaking for customers not demos who can recoup their $$. It starts seeming a little like a (please don't throw things at me) a gimmick to up sales. Sorry!
I will say I like some of the changes. I like that they brought back some nice in colors. I like that the Neutrals are now a family. I don't like some of the grouping however. I think they should have kept Glorious Green, not that I use it that much but it was a good Christmas Green. There are colors I will miss but I won't lose sleep over it!
I'm sad because so many of the colors I use most often are on the retired list. I made a promise to myself not to buy any more ink/paper but now, it appears I have to stock up on my favorites and then careful dole them out to only "deserving" folks ;-)

I have a question. Whisper White is now listed with the regular cardstock. Does this mean it will feel the same as the regular, not flimsy-er like it does now?
Yea, I just knew if Su ever brought back any previous in-colors it would be Cool Caribbean! I wanted Cool Caribbean, can't wait to see the new color in real life!

Last I checked SU was in business to make money so they will do things to increase sales. I think they are seeing that we are coming out of the recession and since I am sure they lost sales with the poor economy they needed to figure out a way to get their sales up. Their colors were becoming a little stale and they saw excitment over introducing In Colors and decided that this was the way to boost sales.
I really don't care either way. I started off using SU paper and ink, but when PTI started I became drawn to their colors and quality of cardstock, more than SU's.
I may buy some of the new colors, but won't rush out to get them.
Look sharp matey,,,,,big changes on the horizon....Trim the mainsle and tighten up the jib----hard aport ahead---------------------but we will all survive it. some of my faves are leaving and some I never tried are coming back---time to redo my paper labeling for those items I will start using. I like the 10 to a family size and think some of the changes will help me stamp out of my box. Here's to change. and to staying with faves. Either way,,,,it will be fun!!!!

I didn't mean that a in a bad way. Every good company need some good gimmicks! I LOVE PTI! And talk about gimmick.... I am drawn in every 10th of the month counting down until the 15th like a kid waiting for their candy at the the candy store.
I think sometimes the bad thing about forums is that we read things differently than the way they are meant and we don't REALLY (well some of us do) know the posters personality and how they are honestly just stating opinion. I am not talking "writing" about your comments but some of the other comments towards others have been kindof nasty and when I read them thought of the posts just as opinion - nothing more. BUT I rarely get offended and I think I am too slow to know to be offended.

why segregate them, put them together and see what you come up with
lots of people have mentioned the green will be missed then they say they only use it for christmas, maybe one of the 5 in colors will be an awesome christmas color
There will be the 5 new colors we know about. PLUS another 5 new "In Colors" in the new catalog? Is that the way of it?
Also are the retiring colors ALREADY "while supplies last"? So they retire NOW? Or is there a ton of supply? I think I can live without a reorder on them, but I want to be sure.

Space issues are to blame for that. If I had my own room, I'd have a wall system, but since I share the family room....and have limited wall space where I am situated it leaves the drawer containers (small 3 drawer plastic containers) inside the cupboards. Segregated because it's easier to find them when I refer to my swatch book.
Am I to understand that those aren't going to be the "regulars" anymore?
In other words... if, for example, I fall in love with "Cajun Craze"... is it possible that in two years, they'll no longer sell the ink or paper for that? And I'll be stuck with either a dry ink pad with tons of paper, or no paper with a nice moist ink pad?
Or will these 48 colors be around a while? (by "a while" I mean more than two years?)
I'm still trying to figure out the system.
My only wish is that I loved PTI ink pads as much as I love SU ink pads... it would make my life (and wallet spending!) so much easier. ;)

The 5 new colours plus the 10 returning In Colours are going to be part of the core colour collections. There will be an additional 5 colours debuting as the In Colours in July. I dunno what they are although I've heard rumours!

There's going to be 40 colours (not 48 ) in the core collections.
As to whether they'll be regular colours? Yes, they'll be regular as long as SU finds them to remain current with current colour trends. We all know that colours come and go so I think it's smart of SU to tell you right out now that colours will come and go every few years. It makes sense, right?
What to do with retired stuff ... well, that's really up to you. Yes, it would bite to have a dry ink pad and lots of cardstock or vice versa. Purchase what you think you'd need or allow it to just simply go away and move on. Whatever works best for you.
I just wish I could still buy (and wear) poodle skirts, velour pants, bobby socks, and have a plastisized couch ... (kidding)
I think they are planning on keeping things current and changing colors every 2-5 years but it should onlybe a hand full of colors. So yes if you fall in love with "Cajun Craze" and it happens to be one of the hand full ..... well stock up!!!
the core colors will stay I think they said for 3-5 years...can anyone confirm that? We will still get 5 new incolors every year and they will stay for two years.
blessings.

Thanks for any clarification.
The 4 collections have 10 colours each and they are here to stay until the next colour makeover. In addition, there will be 5 in-colors added in July 2010. These 5 in-colors will be active for 2 years. In July 2011, 5 new in-colors will be introduced and they will be active for 2 years as well, which means that these two groups of in-colors will overlap for one year, bringing total number of colours up to 50. This will continue to happen until the next makeover. HTH.
Am I to understand that those aren't going to be the "regulars" anymore?

Just wanted to add - it's been 5 years since any major changes to the color palette and that was 10 or 12 colors changing. It's been a close to a decade since a shakeup this major when these 4 color families were created.
I know it's always hard when sweeping changes are made, but a lot of research went into the changes and change always makes us feel at first that everything is tentative. Yes, SU is going to make changes periodically to make the line current - it's only good business sense. But I don't personally see this sweeping of a change occurring again in 2 years.
