I'm curious about what everyone's favorite repurposed items are for use in their crafting. I hope through hearing about this I can find some "new" supplies around my house!
An example of this would be a shoe bag to store punches, swiffer cloths, or bobbin racks for wheel storage.
My favorite repurposed thing in my craft room is my old CD storage shelf. It has narrow shelves that are perfect to hold my non SU stamps and have them displayed just like the stamp store. Oh and I also love my mason jar full of ribbon remnants, it just looks cool!

A piece of garden wire I folded to make little shelves to put my round watch maker tins on to hold my flowers by colors. They are hanging on my pegboard.

My favorite is an old card-catalog cabinet from a library. Sixty drawers perfect for storing all kinds of stamping stuff. I got it free from a local school that was throwing it out.
Mine is pretty boring... the most exciting thing that I have repurposed are baskets and bins! I have a few that I have gotten when you buy fruit at the farm stand and some other random little baskets. You know you have them too!
I just use them to separate things. Ribbon in one, embossing powder in another... one less thing I have to buy!
Well I would say my hanger...LOL. I put all my ribbon in baggies and clipped them to rings then clipped the rings to the hanger. I have a ton of stuff on there. Embellishments too. It is great.
ooh I forgot one, I LOVE the foam makeup sponges you can buy in assorted sizes for applying ink. It gives a beautiful smooth look and the odd sizes get into nooks and crannies you can't reach with larger sponges.

My mother's old kitchen cabinets which she gave me when she had her kitchen renovated. My husband installed them in our basement and now they hold a ton of stuff - stamp sets, paper, etc. Plus, they lend a cozy feel to my space and kind of 'define the space' as my hobby nook.
I've used several of the ideas already presented - except the 8 track holder. I will have to look for one of those at a yardsale!
My repurposed item would be decorative lunch boxes. I have a huge Disney collection and have several tin lunch boxes that I use to house: my CB dies, tags, ribbon, pens, etc. They are also a great size to put in my stuff for taking to a crop.
I have two favorites! One is an old vegetable peeler than just makes the most awesome distressed edges on cardstock. The other is a jewelery box that has a bunch of small drawers that are perfect for storing all sorts of little embellishments.
Mine is the round wooden clothes-pens (doll head). I wrap my ribbon on these...slide one end thru slot, tape to clothes-pen and then just wrap ribbon around pen until full (can hold an amazing amount) slide tail end thru the split and secure with straight pen. I have read were some store their ribbons in cookie-type glass jars but I just keep mine in large basket to I can get to them easily. I had over 100 rolls which I can now store in just a large basket...real space-saver.
I have a tall four drawer antique wooden filing cabinet that my dh got from the courthouse in the town he grew up in when they modernized (his mom worked there). It holds all of my stamps, and looks awesome!
I use a Pampered Chef scraper on the fold of my card after it has been scored and folded to make a really crisp fold. I also use it to split the prongs of brads apart and flatten them with it, too. Very useful little tool!
Right now, Joann's has 3 packs of little plastic containers in their dollar section that I bought to put my EP in. They take up a little more room than the bottles EP comes in, but pouring it back in the larger container is so much easier!

LOVE this idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My favorite is my Pampered Chef turnaround holder - it keeps everything right where I need it.

i sure would love to see pictures of that! i'll bet it's beautiful

I have two
I have a pants hangesr that i slide the wheels onto and hang it up--it holds about 25 wheels!
I bought one of those really cheap plastic boxes at Walmart with all the square holes all over it and put all my non spooled ribbon and long scraps in it and fed them each through a hole and it keeps it real handy, looks like one of those ribbon eze bags.
My favorite thing is a wooden skewer. (A larger in diameter than the skinny long ones) I use these to score with because they are more pointy than a bone folder. Sometimes the bone folder can make your dimensions off.
I think I'm the queen of repurposing --at least my DH thinks so. Here's some of my favs:
- I use empty coffee cans (red folgers ones) to store pencils, pens and scissors (not my good markers though).
- Spaghetti or pickle jars are great to hold prima flowers or other bulkier embellishments.
- Old cassette holder stores ink pads
- Jewelry trays hold loose stamps (got that idea of SCS and LOVE IT)
- empty cardboard boxes make extra shelves to hold more stamp sets
These are all great! I'll have to try the ribbon holder -- i have WAY too much ribbon.

I use a pint-size freezer baggie for each color cardstock I have. I just put scraps I have into that bag (marked with cardstock color) and then store it in same bin with that color cardstock. This way I can pull out several bags to work with & not have to wonder "which color is this?" when I go to put them up.

That's funny - I also use a pot scaper for making nice folds on my cards! Works great, doesn't it?! I think it is easier to handle than a bone folder and doesn't make a shiney mark on the fold. Pot scapers rule!!!
I use the plastic trays from cookie pkgs to store loose stamps, etc. in my iris cart drawers. They can stack on top of each other and some trays are much heavier plastic and better sized than other trays. Gotta eat cookies to find the size & weight of tray you need....

Not sure if this is repurposing or recycling but... I love the bottom box from a 2 lb box of Velveeta cheese. It makes a great drawer divider and all my Stickles fit perfectly inside.
I also love the mesh bags that onions come in. If you lay it one your paper and pounce a sponge with ink on it you get a great background.
Over the door shoe organizers work great to organize loose stamps.

I made my stamp positioner out of Duplo blocks. It's absolutely fabulous.

Why did she make things? Well, she enjoyed it, of course; it also somehow helped her remember who she was and where she came from.
These are all great ideas. I have those plastic containers that red vines come in from Costco on my desk. I have one for fiber and one for ribbon. My dad is trying his hardest to eat all the licorice he just got from Costco because I just got a ton of ribbon from a secret sister and I am out of space.
Did you glue it together or somethign? And what do you use, like acetate for the positioner? Please share, I haven't decided if I need the stampamajig or not,

Never thought of makeup sponges but what a great idea. I buy large sponges and just cut them up as I need them. One color for each chunk. I have to write those on my shopping list, thanks.
Kathy
Just thought of something else. I repurposed my coupon organizer as a Cuttlebug die and embossing folder organizer. I have one for the dies and one for the folders. Works great.

spice rack with jars for assorted colors of primas
paint edger pads for a stamp cleaning pad
empty peanut butter jars for storing ribbon scraps by color
post office boxes/mailers for Cropper Hopper-like upright paper storage
cd cases for unmounted stamp storage

Ooohhh, a bobbin rack for storing wheels! I love that idea!!!
I use the shoe bag for storing embellishments in packaging. The punches make too much noise when I open and close the door.
I store my SU stamp boxes on wrought iron CD racks. (I need another one.) I wish I could find a lightweight tape rack for storing my ink pads.
I also use 8 track holders (spin) for my pads, I had to cut a piece of chipboard to go inbetween but it's awesome...and was about $2 at Goodwill.
I use a Target basket made for Picnic items (plates, silverware, etc.) for my scissors, punches and cuttlebug folders.
I have a fishing tackle box for my embellishments and a nails/screws sorting storage for replacement blades, sponge daubers, etc.
I use the left over SU boxes from all my backgrounds to store my stampin spots (two sets fit perfectly in one container and I can see them all clearly!)
...and I put my stickles and reinkers in SU boxes too! Since they are laying down I can quickly see the colors that way and they are stackable!
i bought a drawer sock organizer that when you stand it up it will hold over 100 stamp pads (except SU). This next one isn't repurposed, at Harbor Freight (in store, not online) I buy these clear plastic boxes that are filled with smaller boxes that are great for holding brads, buttons, etc. I have one box for catergories of leaves and trees, asia, dance/music, etc. The brads and buttons are by color. Some of the boxes I don't use the insides and store my stickles, glitter, wheel handles, etc. They stack wonderful and are about $5. I love these and have 30 and want more.

I'm also the Queen of Repurposing! I love to frequent the thrift stores as I've found so many cool things that have found a useful place in my stamp room.
--My stamp table is a stainless steel table that used to be in my kitchen. It's perfect height to pull a stool up to sit on while I stamp and also has a shelf on the bottom where I store my SU sets in cloth organizers I found at the Dollar Spot in Target.
--Found an old wooden audio cassette case at the thrift store that my SU pads fit in and hangs on the wall.
--I use pants hangars to store ribbon on. The kind that have 2-3 rods.
--I store my punches in an over-the-door shoe organizer.
--My tools are stored in a plastic caddy (similar to the Pampered Chef, but colored) that I found in the thrift store.
--Use cut up makeup sponges for dabbing color and dryer sheets for Embossing Buddy (much cheaper and smell lovely).
--I use a set of 3 clear canisters to store pieces of ribbon and buttons. Looks so pretty on my shelf.
--I found plastic jars that are stackable (screw onto each other) and are perfect for storing brads and eyelets and other small embellishments.
I think that's it! Thanks for starting this thread...going to try some of these things!
