well... if you twist my arm I will admit I own eyelets in every color they made them in way back when... ( and I do not like the looks of them on projects generally)
Me too! I can't figure out what on earth I thought I'd do with FlowerSoft. I'm currently pulling my unloved/unused stamping stuff together for a Spring Garage sale.
I love Flower Soft!! I just discovered it last month. I bought a couple colors of green and a mix of purples to put on small areas of cards. I think it adds a nice little pop. Besides the flowers on these two stamps are hard to color.
I agree. Trying to glue down those skinny little letters isnt worth the trouble. What did you use? White glue??
I still like my provo craft alphas and use them on cards & scrapbooking LOs. I have the "X" shaped xyron sticker maker machine and this works a treat turning little letters into stickers - I find it quick & less messy than wet glues.
For me, it's coloured embossing powders and flowersoft that's sitting on the shelf gathering dust.
DeeAnn..I wont flame ya..I can't ever get them to look right either..LOL. I love them and the possibilities they have, but I, for one..can not ever seem to get that smooth transition with them. I do much better sponging with Versa Magic .
I am not alone, lol. I hear ya too. I love my SU inks with my sponges.

I usually put double sided tape on the back of the cardstock before I cut out letters (I have the Tim Holtz Typeset strip - those are fiddly little suckers!). Works great and the backing paper on the tape seems to separate with the pressure of the cutting so it flips off really easily when you want to stick them down.
Ribbon and buttons. I have more of them than I'll use in five lifetimes. My buttons look so pretty all lined up in their jars, and the ribbon is all neatly organized, too. But I don't use any of them very often on cards. I've called a halt to buying any more of them, and it's saving me tons of money.

See? I look at your cards (beautiful!) and think, "Man, I love me some flowersoft. Gotta get it." Then, when I try to use it, I promise you, it does not look like your cards.
Flower Soft... I got all of the colors and have never made a card that I like with them.
Ribbon... I have so many clothespins with patterned ribbon on them and most do not match anything. Seems like I do better with seam binding and Distress stain or just basic colors.
Perfect Pearls... I have so many of these and never use them... it is just so much easier to use a Hero Arts pearl and color it with a Copic.
When I first started stamping, because there is no LSS anywhere near me I would order a few sets from companies that I liked the DTs work - I figured since I wasn't doing classes it wasn't so bad.... Now I know that my style tends towards TGF style people and anime style make it crafty stamps, I feel like I wasted my money on the verve, PTI, TCPs and other random stamp sets that if lucky have only had one stamp see the light of day because they just didn't work for me...
Other than that flower soft - glad I only bought white to try, because it doesn't seem to matter what I try it just looks dreadful! My copics on the other hand... LOVE! Can't make a card without them!

Reason: SPR
I'm not one to get caught up in trends, but when I first started card making I went to some expos and just had to buy a bunch of the "girly" images that were trendy at the time - like lipstick/mascara/makeup, dresses on hangers, shoes, etc. Ick.

This awesome thread makes me think a couple of things here. We are impulsive especially when we see those beautiful cards some of the gals make with a ton of embellishments on them. I just know I can make one similar, get all the stuff and forgot what about the original idea! LOL. Another thing is that I read a proverb that says the eye of man is never satisfied; now that could be really good...like doing something really right, or it could be bad....as having to have every color cardstock or marker available. I did that with embroidery floss ....the old cross stitch days before rubber stamp days. So, now that I am getting an idea of what attracts me I am shutting down the "I gotta have that!" Rubber stamping has taken a curve into major money land; its all about dies and embellishments and not so much about using all the zillions of rubber stamps that I have AND love. So, this chick is going back to using her God-given creative ability and use those rubber stamps more and quit relying on costly stuff on the cards to make them beautiful. Thanks for the gal who brought this whole thing up. Hats off to you!

When I saw this card by dawnmercedes I thought of this thread where patterned paper, eyelets and ribbon have all made a mention I think. I loved her card design and layout that incorporated all three of these elements!

I have done that, lol. Bought all the embellishments and coloring tools to make the card. Then I forgot which card I wanted to make. I was a newbie then.
Embroidery floss. That is a whole different game for me. I love my floss. I have every color from DMC too. I keep topping it off. If anybody tried to take my floss from me I punch them. ;) I am a floss addict. Needlework will always be my first love. I am so happy I bought all the colors of floss a couple years ago. I was buying it for 10/$1.00. The last time I checked floss prices it was getting close to fifty cents a skein.
I am SO with you on patterned paper. I have one of those black wire racks, stands about 3 feet tall full of patterned paper I am never going to use. We started 15 years ago with patterned paper, but the minute we all started using die cuts, embossing folders, and stamps, patterned paper took a huge hit. Now I never buy anything but solid colors, and the patterned paper just sits here. I can't for the life of me figure out how to incorporate large quantities of it into a layout or cards!
Yep again. The Cuttlebug alphabet dies- expensive even with coupons, and I just HAD to have them. I totally jumped on the bandwagon both with Cuttlebug and with Sizzix/Vagabond and now I am so sorry. The stuff they were making was so awesome, but it's not my style at all.
Some fads turned out to be tailor made for me, like Copics. They helped me FINALLY define my style and how I like to craft. I don't use them as much as I should, always too busy to craft lately, but they are my pride and joy, along with my Derwent pencils.
For me, it's silhouette stamps. I saw what other people did and thought: "Wow - love them - gotta get them" - and haven't used them. I just look at them blankly and can't figure out what to do with them  Now, I am more careful and make a Wish List rather than buying on impulse and put the list aside and re-visit it a month later to see if I still feel excited. Funny how often I am not so excited later on.
I don't have major categories of 'regret' items, more like sub categories. I've got several stamp sub categories I wish I hadn't bought but most of them I did use at the time so can I regret them so much because I don't like them now? I think a lot of these purchases did help me define my style and so I think they are a necessary part of the evolution of my art.
I bought too many SU! 'starter' sets. Those watercolor look flower sets, Multi-sentiment/image sets (the ones with images too small for a good focal point with an attached sentiment you stamped together, 8 or 10 stamps that covered all your basic card making categories), Pink Cat designs girlie sets drawn with thick lines ending in swirls, cutesie images with cutesie verses especially for babies and solid flower and leaf sets.
Thing is, quite a few of those I don't use much anymore, I can resurrect! For instance, I've been wanting to pull out those watercolor stamps and maybe even the solid ones to see if I can get some good kissing images. They will never become the favourites again that they once were but I might use them again for a while.
There are way too many things I don't necessarily regret buying by just don't use as much as I should like my iTop, soldering supplies, chipboard shapes, alterables, I could go on. I just bought a new book case for my craft room and I reorganized all my supplies in the process. I put everything in neater looking containers and prioritized supplies based on how often I use them putting the most often used stuff closest and the rest further away or in the basement. I 'found' lots of things I need to use up/use more often so I'm going to have fun with stuff I forgot I had.
I have to spend less on supplies I the future as we are tryin to save for a fence and for a Disney trip this fall so using stuff I have will become even more important especially for gifts!
My biggest regret wasn't a bandwagon purchase. I bought a Pazzles die cutting machine years ago (when the Cricut became popular) and I thought I could learn the complex software. I did but I promptly forgot and had to relearn each time I wanted to use it. It was as much as a cheap car and their newer model, much easier to use and less expensive came out only a little bit later and I felt so ripped off. I now have an eCraft machine that works like a dream (no cutting mat!!) but the software for it wasn't ready as promised when it was released so I'm still waiting for it to function as advertised. The card (like a cartridge) that came with it is so basic it's boring with lots of odd shapes I'd never use. I did buy after market software but the ability for it to 'talk' directly to my machine is still in he beta phase after a year! Yeesh, guess I didn't learn my lesson the first time...

I loathe chipboard and have a pile of it that I'm never going to use. I do not want to work with something that is that time consuming. covering it with paper or trying to get the paint to cover the carboard, it's all too much of a pain. But I bought a ton of it, right? Why didn't I just use a ittle bit and see how I liked it? I'll tell you why- because I did more shopping than scrapping there for a long while!!
This is not stamp related at all, but I jumped on the BEANIE BABIES bandwagon. What will I ever do with them all???
Hi Karen,
This is a little off topic perhaps, but our church built an orphanage in Thailand to rescue children from the awful "sex trade" industry that goes on there. One of the items the children LOVE is beanie babies. I had so many, and it was a huge blessing when I boxed every one of them up and my church sent them to the kids at the orphanage. They LOVED them! Just thought I'd share that. I'm sure you could sell them on eBay or Craigslist.
My bandwagon item would be all my Nesties. I suppose someday I might use them all, but I typically use only certain shapes over and over again. And they weren't cheap. But they do look pretty hanging on my pegboard!
I'm loving this thread - one woman's trash... I will say though, I love patterned paper and find it challenging to just use cardstock on LOs or cards.
My first major regret was a Cricut and cartridges. I thought I would use it all the time for LOs, but I rarely did. Most of it looks too "flat" for me. I did sell it to a preschool teacher who loves it!
Eyelets and brads - I have a TON of them. I do use brads but I have since found Candi and like it better.
I have been reorganizing my craft room and I filled 5 good sized boxes with stuff I will never use (much from when I started). It is going to a local women's center that offers papercrafting lessons.
My biggest regret? Copics!!! I have about 100 of them and don't use them very often b/c I can't get the concept of shading. I find I use my watercolor crayons the most and I prefer the soft look.
I must be in the minority but I now hate the Tattered Angels and Smooch Spritz's. I haven't found any I like and they all make such a mess when trying to use. Love my Copics, love my shimmer watercolors, love my Cuttlebug, love my Cricut, love all my inks, paper, etc., but I can live without spritz!
Gail, thank you for the link to dawnmercedes card. It's so cute and I now way to make good use of some of my "hundreds" of brads and eyelets! I guess maybe some of my "junk" wouldn't be "junk" if I had cute ideas like that to use it on.
I've really been enjoying this thread. The theme that keeps running through my head as I check in on this has been "less is more". Let's see how well I hang onto that thought the next time I see another "have to have" item!
I, too, have some brass stencils that haven't been used since I got them several years ago. Just saw a neat, non-embossing use for them. Check out rubberstampchat.net., scroll down to the Studio section, and then click on Tips and Techniques. Scroll down to the Wet Stencil thread, and click on it. (BTW, I'm "Renee" on that chat room.)
I'm with rswanger--don't know if i'll live long enough to use all my must-haves.
Ribbon. I bought all kinds of it, then I couldn't keep up with the trends...sheer ribbon, wide ribbon, stripes, stripey edges, ruffledy...and it all just sits. I do use some twine though! And I no longer succumb to the "but it is SOOOO cute..." argument!
