Default What SU stamp sets do you recommend for a newbie?

Actually I have maybe 30 stamps, most are single stamps I've picked up here and there. I have a couple of small SU sets that I've had for about 9 years or longer that my girls used when they were younger.

Anyway, I want to start making cards and do some scrapbooking and I'd like to have a couple of stamp sets to get started. (There's a bunch I'd love to have but can't afford too many right now) I bought a cuttlebug a month ago and got some folders and dies for it and I've had so much fun with it. I even made about 60 shower invitations for dd's household shower. She loved them!

So if you were just getting started, which set would you get? What other stamps do you like besides SU?

I just get the sets that I love.

I'm happy SU! went to die cutting all their new stamp sets this year. It makes mounting and stamping go so much faster.

Lovely as a tree is one of my favorite all time stamps from SU! If you search the galleries, you will find gorgeous samples and it can be used for masculine cards, Christmas cards, even sympathy cards - it is so versatile. It is not die cut so you have to cut it out before you mount it but that has never been a problem for me. Good luck with your search.

This is what I would say too. It has been around a long time but youo can do a lot with it. I would probably pick a nice flower set that you like as well and one set of sentiments that would cover the events - b'day, get well, graduation, congratulations, etc.

If you tend to make a lot of cards or pages for kids events I couldn't go past "Wild About You". It would be my most used set. Plus a good sentiment set, throw in a flower set and you've got everything you'd need to get started.

Hsmom, how fun to be just starting your stamping adventure!! :-) I would recommend "Sincere Salutations", which has sentiments to cover almost every occasion. Then you can pick a nice flower set - whatever you like. I agree that Lovely As A Tree is an awesome set, and so it Wild About You (especially if you make a lot of child/baby cards!). Do you have ink? Cardstock? I'd recommend buying SU because everything coordinates. Pick your favorite color family and buy an assortment pack of cardstock, the same color family of inkpads, and some Whisper White cardstock.

Happy stamping, and God bless!

I remember when I first started. I wanted to make Christmas cards but didn't want to get carried away. My demo let me borrow her frosty set. I bought white c/s, a colored c/s w/ matching marker, black ink pad, silver cord and dazzling diamonds.

Memories!

I agree with newmommy06 - look at the Gallery for ideas! Also, Fun and Fast Notes is great for many occasions - if you like it!
