I didn't know SU! when this set came out and when I saw the gallery on SCS I flipped! I found it on ebay the same day and bought it for the pay it now price of $34.95...with shipping it was just under $40. A little more than I would have liked to pay, but for a rare retired set, and one that I absolutely love, I think it was money well spent!
The set I want is Polar Express. I was buying SU stamps then and still have a catalog it was in... kicking myself now that I didn't buy it when I had the chance.
I am TOTALLY with you on this one. my butt is sore from the kicks!!! I love that set. HOW in the world did I pass it up when I had the cattie in my hands!
silly silly girl!

I was outbid (my Maximum was $60) for the retired set O Canada. I know it sounds crazy, but my husband is a mountie and I make him cards for work and the mountie image from this set is beautiful!! He was the one that actually said to bid that much! I would still pay big bucks for this set, but it never comes up on ebay anymore, I have been waiting over a year.
I'd love On the Nile........but I've never seen it to buy or trade.
I was lucky enough to get it from ebay. Last year I won an auction lot that had On the Nile (unmounted), Egyptian BG (unmounted), Celtic & matching wheel and Bareback (I think, it has horses) & a sketchy horse wheel. My DH had to watch the end of the auction for me (I had to take the kids to religion class). I think the final price with S/H came to ~ $150 (& DH was totally fine with it, he knows I love Ancient Egypt & stamping AND he knows that Stampin' Up! stamps are very good quality). I was able to sell the Celtic stuff to my friend to recoup some of the cost.

I know this doesn't really belong here but, good golly, I am always reading here on Splitcoast about understanding husbands!! I'm lucky if I get as far as tolerance and I'm not even over-the-top about stamping . Congratulations to all of you with such supportive spouses... I may just have to start a thread to hear stories about husbands and live vicariously through you, LOL!
I must say the prices i've seen on ebay are INSANE.. but if you happen to come across someone who has NO IDEA what they are doing on Ebay- you might get a *********** deal!!! Yuppppers. that was me!!!

I have the girl scout set.
.I gave away Dreams & Dragons (yes I know it's value..and my friend has the $ to buy it if she wanted to) but I wanted to give a special gift..and that was it!
I've considered parting with the scout set but have held out because I can't find one of the pieces! it's probably in my junk drawer ;)
I had some success ISO for clients looking for retired sets also..that was fun
I will mention to my friend about selling her used once Polar Bear set!
I also have Dream Catcher --and wouldn't think of parting with it!
I would have to say darling dragons....the penguins sets and some of the hedgie sets....one nightI saw Pheasant thoughts on the bay for 192.00 and I don't even like that set taht much.....I think if I won the lottery I could afford to start buying the retired stamps on the bay!
I wanted this set called UP ON THE HOUSETOP. I got it on ebay as well, and gave only what it originally went for. I don't see it that often on there. I did also get the DREAMS AND DRAGONS set for around 23$ I think. I have the pink flamingo set too, which I love. The CHRISTMAS CARDINAL is another great set, seems to hold it's value on ebay as well. Karen
There's a set with a breaching whale and some other sea life (can't think of the name to save my life) that I would like for my daughter.. She loves sea creatures and wants be a marine biologist when she grows up...

I think Up on the Housetop went on ebay about a year ago for hundreds of dollars - something outrageous!! Was it $600? 800? Someone posted a link to it here on Splitcoast. that's insane.
i have Up on the Housetop, and it has sold for over $300. I have never used but I guess one day I will sell it. I also have the coveted snowglobe, Tickled Pink and just sold Born to Ride. I wish someone would pay me big $ for them
I know what you mean... I had some that I thought would go for big bucks, but never did. I ended up trading for CDOs, and as soon as I do that ~ someone posts an ISO :/ . Timing - it's everything
Right now I have Up in the Air and Wildfowl for sale and there's zero interest, but when I was looking for them they were highly sought after by others as well. oh well!

There was only 2 that I was dying for - Roughin' It and Highways and Biways. I was lucky enough to come across them for not TOO much. I found Roughin' It - NUM - on E-Bay for $50 and Highways and Biways, I was able to trade $25 current stamp. The funny thing is that I ... lol ... have only used Highways a handful of times and haven't used Roughin' It once ... I guess I need to get on that ...

Wow!! I didn't realize that UP ON THE HOUSETOP had gone for such an exorbitant amount of money!!! I am very please that I have it then. I do also have CHRISTMAS CAROLERS, and I made those in navy blue background paper, used navy ink on white cardstock, and boy, did they turn out beautiful!! Will do that one again sometime! Karen

Let me know how much you would be interested in selling the scout set for. I would love that set for my brownies. We want to make stationary.
I really want the DD Choo Choo set and just can't find it anywhere! I thought I had it on ebay and in the last 30 seconds I lost it. I thought it would be safe to go up and bathe my children ... darn!!
It's funny, I sold a bunch of the ones you have listed here for about 40% off the list and some were new! I guess I should check here more often. The one I had to go back and get was Beautiful Season. It's old fashioned snow scenes. I also had to get Sweet Herbs.
The trick to eBay is to shop on holiday weekend and then you can get really good bargains because no one is there to bid it up. Maybe I shouldn't share my secrets. shhhhhhh

OK...so now that we have seen or chatted about the insance prices on eBay...what is the most insane price you have paid for a stamp set? Anyone willing to admit they are one of the crazy eBay shoppers paying in the hundered for a SU set?
LOL....I will be the first to admit that with 4 kids...I am too thrifty to do something that crazy....and my understanding DH would not be so understanding that I spent our grocery money on a stamp set and we weren't eating dinner for a week. LOL
I paid 80.00 for Snow Globe....in very bad condition and 40.00 for UM Cowboy Kid. That's about as stupid as I ever got. I've paid about 5-10 dollars over original catty price for UM retired sets. That to me is still outrageous considering that I have traded things of great value for relatively nothing....but one man's treasure is another man's trash, right?
About 6 months ago I got SNOWGLOBE for 28.00 on ebay. It was mounted but barely used as there were NO stains on it anywhere. I also bought Old Fashioned Christmas for 20.00 here on the B/S/T forum.
Okay ladies-
I live in Denmark so from the states am ahead between 6-9hrs from ya'll.. I am looking alot of the time... SOOOOOOOOOO
