Question what do you look for

well i have been selling handstamped card for a couple yrs now and though fun and somewhat profitable (those who have sold their cards know what i am speaking about) i find that my cards are just lacking something. my clients have said they love them and my cards have a clean look and they are somewhat simple layouts i leave it blank inside so they can personalize them but i personally feel like i need to change it up a bit what seems to grab you when you go to purchase handmade greeting cards. your advice is very valuable to me thank you in advange to those of you that reply.

You might consider printing/stamping some separate "inserts" with different verses/sentiments for the inside of the card. You could attach a piece of Score Tape, or similar peelable liner double sided tape to the back, so they could insert the sentiment sheet in their card.

Lots of people like blank cards, so they can write in them, I know. But a lot of people feel just the opposite. They don't know quite what to write, so they like a card they can just sign and mail.

I always made blank cards too. But I found that people want sentiments stamped inside of cards also. The biggest occasion they ask for is Birthday. I use a spellbinder die set to add sentiments inside the cards. I stamp on a white or cream die and then add two more layers of the colors or papers I have used on the card front. People also seem to ask for vintage style cards.

When I look at purchased cards I look for a sentiment that expresses what I want to say to the person receiving the card, so I would have to agree with Bugga, it might be very helpful to have several sentiments ready for cards and they would not necessarily have to be in each card but available for the customer to add the the card they choose.

I like a white interior, sentiment inside (for birthdays especially).

If you are looking to add something different, perhaps lining the envelope?

I have yet to do this for my cards, but if there is a sentiment on the inside, stamp the sentiment on a scrap paper to have it visible through the bag. I don't like my cards handled too much, so I put them in the clear sleeves with an envelope. Then they don't have to open it to see what it says on the inside.

I actually like funny cards myself.

I like to have an insert in handmade cards I purchase, because often I find that whatever pen I use to write on blank card, shows through to the back of the card.

If I leave the inside blank (that is, no sentiment), I'll decorate the inside using colors from the front (or versamark) of the same or similar image so the the buyer can still write inside. You can also choose choose to decorate the envelope, though if the card doesn't sell you may be stuck.
