For every card I make that I totally love and am very happy to share (or alas, keep for myself in a frightening, growing pile that I'm afraid my heirs will only shake their heads over in the wonderment of my insanity before giving them their final heave-ho), I've created at least three that I wouldn't share connected to my name in any way. I have quite a "recycle" pile and am wondering what folk have figured out creative ways to reuse their duds. (Pulling them apart for the cardstock and using the backside don't count as creative) TIA
Sometimes I try to rethink the card and spruce it up a little. I'll carefully remove layers and maybe add a bg image or some ribbon. I don't get rid of them. I just try to fix them up!
lol!! i love your sense of humor jeaniebean! on my cards i'm not happy with, sometimes there are one or two elements that aren't too bad. so i salvage them by cutting or pulling apart and i keep them in my recycle box. sometimes i can reuse them in another setting and sometimes i have been able to 'revamp' them in some way. for example: i did some filligri hearts years ago and was never happy with them. every card i did with them ended up in my recycle box. a few weeks ago i pulled one out, stared at it for a while, pulled out my markers and intensified the colors and slapped it on some patterned paper. now i like it...finally.
also, sometimes we just have to chalk up our failures to the learning process and go with the 'turning it over and using the backside.'

I give mine to my 7 YO DD to use as embellishments in her scrapbook. She cuts the card fronts up and uses what she likes as a sticker (w/ Xyron help). She is not near as picky as I am.

Thanks for your time & thoughts. Karen, cool idea! For those of you who pass duds on to "lesser" folk, IMHO, you may be confirming a sense that hand stamping is a poor idea. I've heard about using duds to make weavbings, but I've not tried it and I'm wondering if there are other cool ways to recycle duds (Those that you've either studied and figured out a way to improve or those that you've torn apart for their pieces). Any more ideas? TFS
Sorry again! the ( ) should start out with "not including" ( I just got back from a fantastic vacation visting my son in CA and am enjoying a fantastic bottle of Cabernet-Sauvignon (had to check the bottle for correct spelling!) oh my!
If I think it is hopeless, (and I do have a growing box of these!) I save them for scraps, like if I need to punch out a flower, circle etc. Cause I just can't use a brand spanking new piece of CS for this!!
Oh yeah, I rip off the embellishments and recycle of course!
I have also used scraps for the "suede" look that you get with the bone folder by splitting the cardstock after you have broken the threads within the card stock. This way, I can get 2 pieces out of the scrap, and since SU card stock is colored the whole way thru, it turns out very nice.

I chuck them in the trash! If it had brads or whatever I may remove it. Threw one away today. I worked on it for a while but it just didn't turn out like I envisioned. I stopped saving little pieces cause I NEVER go back for an image.
Some I throw out, others I keep to remind myself what NOT to do!! :-) I never ever throw anything out with a brad on it, but really don't worry too much about saving the cardstock fronts. I might cut off the back, and use that for something though.

LOL! Laurie, you're right! Why didn't I think of that! And thanks to all for all the input. I'd heard of using them for making weavings and wondered if there were other creative uses, but it sounds like the tear-down-and-recycle is the main thing, with some of us finding folk who will still appreciate them as cards, and some (gasp) tossing them! (I'm way to cheap for that to happen!) Anything else, or is this pretty much it?
Since I volunteer a lot at our retirement community's assisted-living homes, I save the
cards until I get a good collection, and then I give them to the staff so they can give the
cards to residents who never have anyone visit or who never receive any cards at all.
This has really been an eye-opener for me....so many folks get nothing. I love doing this, and I also make cards now on a regular basis for a certain facility sponsored by my church.
This has been a blessing for me as well! What a beautiful use for our "recycled" creations!
Your question reminded me of a co-worker I had years ago who couldn't cook. When our department had a pot luck, she would try, fail, and get made fun of - good naturedly, mind you, and she did most of the making fun of herself. One time, she made cookies or bars or something - rock hard - but she had a plan, and put a different co-worker's name (one who was a great cook) on the container. The great cook couldn't figure out why we were all asking her what happened, until the bad cook confessed.
Maybe you should start a gallery under another name, just for the cards you don't like, then no one will think they are yours.

I like the donate option. Maybe if you give enough of these cards away, the "Creativity Gods" will smile upon you and you'll have fewer duds.
Personally, when I've bloopered a card - and I've done more than my share of them, I NEVER want to see it again, so the idea of giving them away works fer me! I'd drop them off at the closest school or nursing home and know that they are going to bring joy to someone. I do this with a lot of the card fronts I get at Convention and elsewhere. Once they are retired or if I don't see any new ideas on them, I will put backs on them and donate them to my church for their Deacon program. Otherwise, I'd be up to my ears in them after a few years.

I agree, if I am not 100% happy I bin it, because I am never going to be happy with it and I would never go back and do anything with it. Some of my stamp club ladies rescue them out of the bin and take them home after a class.
