We see soo many cards here on SCS and I was wondering what people do with the majority of their cards and other creations? Do you give them away, sell them or do they just sit on a shelf and collect dust like mine?
I create (some) but have a hard time parting with my work. I am so fearful that people will just throw the cards away and I know how much effort I put into them and the cost involved. Please give me your advice for getting past my fears of letting go!
It's hard to let go of something you put so much of yourself in!! I send mine to stamping friends or people I know will appreciate them. I give some as gifts in sets, and some I sell in a local salon. And some I just carry around and look at them. Cause they're pretty. lol
I make as i need...send to familty & friends only, no selling. I find pleasure in the fact that they enjoy my card and say thank you that I thought of them enough to put the time & effort into making them one. I know they are going to eventually throw it away...no one I know anyeays keeps their cards
I send my cards to family and friends. I send a lot of them to Keiki Cards for the children.
I find joy in making the cards and giving them to others. How long they choose to enjoy the card is their choice, and I really don't think about it much. I don't expect that they should have to keep it forever. Now, if I knew they were tossed right away, I wouldn't bother to send cards anymore.
I guess I don't have a lot of trouble letting go because making and sending the cards is what makes me happy. It's them sitting around collecting dust that would bother me.

I give a majority of mine to my care team at the church. I know they will be received by someone who needs a card! The rest I only have time to make for specific events like bdays and such. Before having children I had time to collect some of my creations. ;)
I'm particular about who I send one of my handmade cards. Usually a family member or friend whom I know will appreciate the craft. It is hard to part with our little creations, but if I make a "double" and keep it for referring to or just to enjoy looking, then giving cards away isn't so traumatic. I don't feel that I've reached the level to sell cards, yet, however...maybe, someday.

I do pretty much the same thing too. I find it hard to five away so I give to people I know will appreciate them.
I have a problem parting with some of my cards. We have a nursing home near by that has about 25 residents. I have a list of names and birthdays and bring them up there for their birthdays. I learned to call ahead and see if they are still there. I bring them for the entire month of birthdays. I was bringing cards only to find out that when they gave me the new list they wern't there anymore. I wonder what they did with the cards?
This is the very reason I joined the RAK group here! This way I know my card is going to a fellow stamper and they will see the effort I put into the card and treasure it. It just feels good.

i like your idea. i had been thinking of doing that with our local nursing home but wasn't quite sure how to go about it. your idea is a winner.
My sis used to sell mine for me, I don't have the push or confidence to do it myself.
I make them for gifts, a pack of 6 or 8, for friends and family.
I send them to friends in with swaps or whatever.
Sometimes I send "just because" cards.
But I have to admit that there are some I have held on to for ages, and even when I need a card in a hurry, I make a fresh one rather than use some of my favourites.
On the whole I don't see the point in making them and not using them, though.

i send my cards out to friends and family for various occasions. i know that most people save my cards, good friends and family, but i'm sure the others get tossed after awhile. i save the cards i get from my card making friends but have been thinking about only saving the card fronts and writing the giver's name and date on the back, because i'm getting quite a collection and it's taking up room.
i used to make all my christmas cards (approximately 85 each year) but now only make for friends and family that appreciate handmade cards. the others get a store bought christmas card. that saves me time and money in the long run.

What is the RAK group? I know that it means Random Acts of Kindness, but what is the purpose of the group?
I make all my cards for friends and family, and do samples for our store. I've recently decided to get more organized and start doing cards ahead of time, so now I have a good variety of styles/occasions on hand and I've let everyone in the family know so they can come to me instead of Hallmark! :P
My mother was my first "customer"; she picked one for her friends birthday, and the lady even called me thanking me for making her such a nice card. Although I don't worry about my cards after they leave me, that was a nice surprise and it was good to know she really appreciated it.
If you have school age children, cards and bookmarks would make a great fundraiser too. Especially if the kids have a book fair, donating some bookmarks would be a good idea.
The girls at work have suggested that I sell my cards, but I just can't do it! I can't let someone else send or give a card that I made - it's too personal.
I send to friends and family and usually make an extra to keep myself, although I haven't since I started putting them on here because I can easily come and look at them.
i donate alot of them to the soldiers.

I do that, send flat rate boxes of them filled up to Ladies organizing that...
I give them away.
I have kept a few, but you can't keep them all & it's more fun to share the joy by giving them away then you can always make more. ( I always photograph them now though so its easier to let them go) ( to good homes) not people who will trash them.
I give away probably 90% of the cards I make. They go to family and friends, the card ministry at my church, RAKS here at SCS, and are donated to groups like Relay for Life for their fund raising activities.

They have weekly challenges with ideas to help you find people to send a RAK to. There are also BRAK - Birthday RAK with lists of everyone's B-Day. I usually do searches like last year I sent a card to everyone with the same B-day as me. I also sent one to everyone on the list who lived in the same city as me. Sometimes it just someone I blindly scroll and pick for no reason at all. Think how thrilled you would be to find a beautiful hand stamped card in your mail along with all your usual bills! The only time that happens for me is my B-day or Christmas but with RAK's you can make it happen more often.

But how do you get the addresses? If you have to ask, doesn't it ruin the surprise? Please don't take the wrong way - not meaning to offend, just curious how it works. TIA!

There is a spreadsheet of everyones address in the group which is why its a private forum. Good question!

I sell some to make money for sending to the soldiers. It is a very expensive project. I am so busy making and sending to the soldiers that often family and friends get neglected... Oh no!
On average, I make and send out 300 cards per year. I'm an American living in Croatia and a big part of my job is corresponding with friends and family across the ocean. And they do appreciate that my cards are handmade. Sometimes, I sell them when people are interested in buying. I do this mainly to raise funds for our church.

Ok I appreciate the fact that my address is not public knowledge. But if a forum is private how does anyone ever find out about it? does this make sense? You want to send a birthday card to the birthday person so how do you get into these groups?

Another good question about RAK's - being added to the group is contoled by a Mod who processes requests on a monthly basis (I think). I'm assuming they look at the persons post counts to make sure they are not a troll. It's not the place for you if you're really concerned about your information being out there in some form since it is veiwable by all the RAK members. I think there has to be over a couple thousand? I'm not sure. Anywho I suggest heading to the RAK forum for the deets.
