Default What to do, what to do?

I've tried searching on this topic but haven't found anything (but my computer has been SLOOOOWWWW today) so I'm posting my ? here now:

Does anyone have any ideas (or even pictures!) of what can be done with those SU, clear, plastic stamp boxes? You know, the ones sets come in but if you've either switched to EZ mount or just have extra boxes on hand you wonder what to do with them?

I have about 8 of them (I think they are the medium sized ones) and in my best efforts to cull and clean out my house (and craft room) I've thought of recycling them or something like that. I thought I'd check first and see if anyone has any great use for them (like do you store other items in them or use them for sorting things?)

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks much!

I'm not sure, but if you change your thread title to something like "looking for other uses for SU clam shell boxes" you might get more replys.

I'd be interested too, since they are so sturdy

Erin,

Thanks, that's a great suggestion to change the thread title (now I just need to remember how to edit my own comment, since I didn't see that button on my post...)

Hopefully we can get some good ideas!
Thanks again!

Wow, Lynn, I've never seen that done before - that's awesome! Thanks for the link of your sister's use of the boxes.

I don't have a cuttlebug (but I've been thinking about a Big Shot...) but I still like the idea of using the plastic somehow on my crafts...have to keep mulling that one!

Since I'm not sure how to change the title of my thread, I think I'll re-start this topic, with a more specific title, but link to this thread so people can see that awesome idea!

Thanks again!

i use mine for storage... for all kinds of things!

sponges, daubers, mat pack, gel pens, paint pens, spare die cut letters & shapes, cuttlebug embossing folders and alphabet set...

i always have one in my 'to go bag' for card club that i keep envelopes in so i can stamp them to match what ever card we are making. i also have one in there for my pop dots because i LOVE to pop stuff up. there is also an empty one in there to put the cards in as i complete them so they don't get smashed or bent before i can get them home.

I give sets of cards away in them. I have also put a notebook and pen in them as a gift set.

I have used them for storage also: Prima flowers, glitter from MS, colored images to use on future cards, Twinkling H2Os, unmounted wheels on EZmount, embellishments, chipboard, Spica markers, Sakura glaze pens, permanent markers, etc.

They can also be used as gift boxes, even for notecards, or for protecting items you're mailing in a bubble envelope or priority flat rate.

Mine have come in handy on various projects for catching glitter, embossing powder, and are especially helpful for the shaving cream technique.

I have given away and sold many in the past on the BST forum here on SCS.

They are handy to have and nest nicely for storing away a supply!!

I use them for storage of markers and flowers and stuff. I've also cut them up, made sure the corners were 90-degrees, and used them with my Stampamajig.

Maudhuit - how are you using them with your Stampamajig.... This is something I do not have... but have been pondering. I have been using one of my quilting rulers. but am starting to worry about damaging it

I store my buttons in them. That way I can see the buttons, but also sift through them without having to dump out a jar full of buttons. One of the sizes is also perfect for my copic markers.

I keep my stampin' spots in some of them, grouped by color instead of by SU's families; there is also space in them for random cat's eyes of other ink brands. I also use the boxes to store groups of other brands of stamps (I know, perish the thought!) so they stack on shelves right along with their SU cousins.

I've seen some people spruce them up and make some really nice shadow boxes with them by adding a frame to hide the edges. It's worth looking into if you dont want to toss them.

If you're unmounting your wheels as well, the boxes can be useful for them. I cut the lids off a bunch of clamshell boxes, and I stick my unmounted (on EZ Mount) wheels on them and stand them in a basket. I put two jumbo or three regular wheel stamps per lid. I can easily flip through them to find the wheel that I need.

I use them for projects -

Projects that are in the process -- like when I am doing a project and not done with it I can pack the elements up in there and return to it later.

Projects like doing bulk amounts of cards, ie. invites or Christmas cards - cut up the pieces and put them in there for later.

When I was SU demo I had multiple elements in there for workshops, precut c/s, etc. so I was able to just pull and go.

Now I keep various sized precut c/s in them for ease in doing cards, mostly birthday and Christmas.

I also bring them to sporting events of my kids to keep me busy - prestamp white c/s with images and bring markers to color.

WOW! I'm thrilled with all of the suggestions for what to do with them! Just yesterday I was trying to clean up my crafting area (again!) and looked at 4 containers I bought from Michaels eons ago that hold mini flowers (you know the ones, you find them in the bridal section and are white or vanilla flowers.) Well, I kept them in their containers with the little handle this whole time, but honestly, I hardly ever used them and they just sat around but now I've dumped them into two containers by color and it takes up less room! Because they can sit stacked on my desk, I think I'll be more likely to use them (that, and my determination to find more samples using them!)

Thanks again!

Another use for those clam shell boxes is to sell them to other stampers (like ME!) who use them to put other groupings of stamps in them ( like Changito or Fluffles stamps). Do you have any large or XLarge boxes? ones that background stamps come in?

I'm so glad you asked this question! I would never ever have thought about using them. I'm off right now to see what I can do! Thanks so much. Great question.

I use several for chipboard pieces...
I have one for small containers of glitter...
I have one full of quarter cut white paper (for quick stamping)...

I've seen somewhere that someone covered a small one with DP and put a gift card inside.

I just wish I HAD some extras! Seems like I never have enough. They stack so nicely in my craft space, and I use a label maker on front to indicate what's inside.

I have some extras too because some of the stamps that don't need to be in sets (like the small backgrounds) I store loose in drawers. I have used the containers for messy techniques. For example:

When pouring on glitter or embossing powder(ep) put the project in the bottom of the container and then pour the ep over it. Keeps it contained and not blowing all over the craft room. And it's easier and less messy to pour it back in the ep container afterward. OR, don't pour it back at all. Just keep the ep in the clam shell container and it's ready to use next time you are. Just dip your project in it and shake the excess back in the clamshell container.

For projects requiring re-inkers, work inside the container to keep your work surface clean. The container rinses clean easily.

The rolling marble background technique is perfect for the clam shells.
