I don't know if this has been discussed, but I just got my "new" larger size Canvas BG replacement and want to do something different/special with the old smaller stamp. Cutting it into shapes (square, rectangle, triangle) is the obvious choice, but does anyone have an "out of the box" idea??

Interesting. SU! wanted mine back. Not sure what they did with it.

make your monogram out of it ... save yourself a $25.00 letter!
sorry someone put that already!
cut it into 1x1 or 2x2 and use as incentives
pick a heart or flower or any outline-type stamp and stamp it onto the foamy side that you unstick
cut out and you'll have a "color-in" stamp for fresh flowers or that heart from hope is....or whatever set you chose.
get a knife and gouge out a design of your own... mirror image, don't forget!
make it into a frame, with a tag punch and other shapes cut out from the center piece
make a pair of shoe lifts out of it... great for slippery days!
use it as a coaster in your livingroom... great conversation piece
use it as a lint picker
rub it over your couch before guests come over
stick it to your dash in your car to keep your sunglasses from sliding all over your window well.
use it around your travel mug as an extra measure of insulation.
stamp it with stazon to make it an advert for your business.
use it as a door stop; just wedge it under there whole!
use it as a massager with your honey! then he can have the joy of stamping too! water-based massage gels only!
use it to raise up your tv so you can see it better from your bed...
what 'box' were you thinkin of?

Ok, my idea was not nearly as funny but I backed mine with a piece of that clear table cloth stuff like they have at JoAnn's in the big roll. I can now use it for 3 dimensional stuff 'cuz it'll wrap and bend any way I want it to! BENDABLE canvas.... oooh aaah!
Interesting. SU! wanted mine back. Not sure what they did with it.
Hmmm...they told me to mail mine back also. About that time my grandma had a heart attack and I had to go to NJ to be with her. Brought her back to MN and my grandma passed on. With all that happening in my personal life, I totally forgot about the old canvas. Never did mail it back and never heard any more about it.

How small was your "smaller" sized background? For my canvas background I always have to shave about 1/16 off my 5 1/2" x 4 3/4" card stock that doesn't get stamped. I'm curious if I have the smaller one?

I'm curious too... can someone explain how much shorter... I was just mentioning to my coworker that I really like the new BG stamps from the Spring mini cause they go from edge to edge on the wood block and it makes it so much easier to stamp my cards with....
Should I call SU and have them replace mine too???

Ya know, I just saw at Target's dollar spot a wooden thing that was supposed to be like Jenga, but it was smaller and only a dollar! That would make a bunch of great blocks to mount your canvas on. You could cut it up into all kinds of shapes and use that for the blocks.
Measure the length of yours. If it's less than 5-3/4, call your demo. If you remember, let her know when you ordered it. SU really prefers to deal with the demo unless there is some reason she's not available.
I just measured mine and it is 5 1/2 so I guess i call DS tomorrow. This is great. I love this stamp but have always hated the shortness. I figured it just the stamp. I'm so excited.
I ordered mine Jan. 2005 - called DS today and they are sending me a new one. They did ask for an order number, so you may need to find the order number it was ordered on. I never would have guessed this was an issue. A lot of my other BG stamps are 5 1/2" long...
Just got off the phone with DS and I am only getting new rubber. This is wonderful but now I have to figure out how to somehow utilize my old canvas with no wood.
WOW! Thanks so much to 'e waterous' for starting this thread!!
I had no idea there was a 'recall' on the canvas background
Sooo...I went thru all of my orders from 12-1-04 to current (on the SU! web site of course) to see which of my customers had ordered these, came up with a list and called SU! They are shipping me replacements for all of my orders! COOL! My customers are not even expecting these so this will be a pleasant serendipity for all of them YEAH SU! on the awesome customer service ;-)
Oh! I forgot to ask in my last post----for those of you who have replaced your rubber already--what is the best way you have found to get it off your block?
SU! suggested to put it in the microwave for 10 seconds to warm up the adhesive and then pull it off---
Any other suggestions that have worked better for you?

I think I used "UN-DU" it is a bottle of stuff that makes adhesive temporarily Un-sticky. It takes a while to "soak" in. I put a little on the corner, pry it up, drop on a couple of more drops, ect.

Sounds too easy to work, I know -- but it does! When you take it out of the microwave slide a knife blade under the foam next to the wood and just use that edge to help lift it off the block. The "sticky" should still be good and you could slap that old rubber onto another piece of wood or acrylic block and have a second stamp for using yucky, hard-to-remove inks, etc.
I am also glad I saw this post... but, since I got mine back in July... I had to fight for my replacement. SU support told me it was over 90 days since I purchased the BG and that I would have to buy another one. My reply to her was... how would I know .... unless such wonderful people like you folks brought it up... to measure my stamps? Why should I? I entrust SU to send me the correct dimensions and if not, to replace it regardless of when I bought it. I also told her that I have several customers who probably were in the same boat... so now I have to measure all my stamps???? YIKES?
She had to check with her supervisor... then she came back and said they'd replace the rubber, but that I would have to pick up the 3.95 shipping. Oh well, at least I'm getting the right size and am very happy.
If you haven't checked your stamp do so now and call....

I had to tell you all that now that I have had some time to play with my 'bendable clear plastic' mount, I love having the extra canvas mounted this way. I just tried it on dominoes, wow, and then I tried one of those white magnetic frames from Target. I was able to press it down into the corners and get that background look on a 3 dimensional object! Very cool.
I just have the stuff that I peeled off my new canvas rubber on my old canvas rubber. I figure I can get someone to cut a piece of wood that size and my mom can have it. She won't care that it is a shade short.
I can't believe I missed this whole issue of being able to replace the too short Canvas BG! I'm attempting to come up with a list of customers who ordered this stamp. When did SU start making the BG bigger? Thanks!
