Default What is best paper for color pencil blending

I thought I saved the link where members wrote what brand of paper they use to achieve good colored pencil blending. Do you think I could find it in my saved favorite....NO. The only thing I remember is someone talked about Neenah Crest but I can't find that in a local store. We live buy a fairly large town Lacrosse WI and nothing. Yes they have Neenah Crest but not card stock weight. It was copy machine weight. So I am hoping you all will have patience with me and tell me what you all are using that the colors blend well and you don't end but with just pencil lines. I promise I will copy and paste post on WordPad so I won't ask you all again. Also sorry I always seem to post a question in the wrong category. I am going to Lacrosse soon and would like to come home with better blending paper.

Neenah's higher quality paper is called Classic Crest, and people use both 80 and 110 pound, often Solar White, a bright white. Most big box stores carry Neenah's Exact Index, which is a lower priced line.

Are you able to order on line? You might have more options, like the one Lydia mentioned (gorgeous coloring btw!).

Here are a couple of threads about paper for colored pencils:

I think you can get small packs of Neenah at Ellen Hutson to try out-just watch the weights.

https://www.ellenhutson.com/Search.h...category=F2587

But I also think it depends on what kind of colored pencils....are you saying NOT watercolor pencils (in which case I would want WC paper).

Zest it is an artist grade stuff that will melt your pigments...

some people use stumps and gamsol, or the colorless blender pencils, or colorless blender markers.

me, I am clumsy so I tend to reach for a prisma marker colorless blender pen to melt pigments with. (that is one way to remove some of the "lines" from pencil coloring) but, really play around with how hard you press and how fine of a tip you put on the pencil lead. if you do it lightly, you can build layers of color before you have a wax bloom. the harder you press the faster it blooms.

also on the Neenah solar white you want to make sure you get the SMOOTH finish, not the eggshell, the eggshell is textured...

I really like the Strathmore bristol vellum. It is available at Michaels and other big box stores. Use a coupon or get it on sale when they offer 2 for 1 or buy two, get one. It has just enough 'tooth' to grab the pigment nicely, but is smooth enough get even coloring.

I have both Polychromos and Prisma colored pencils. I was using Walmart's card stock paper but it just seems like the pencil does not grip into the paper right so it just doesn't shade well if that makes sense. My opinion was the paper was to smooth. I am probably totally wrong. None of my pencils are water color pencils.

It's a much more natural product than gamsol for blending - it's orange-oil based, not toxic, and smells amazing. You order it from the UK

Thanks for everyone's help and beautiful examples. Thanks also for the links in previous thread addressing my same question. I wrote down all the paper members use and like. I am going to Lacrosse, WI Mon or Tues and will be looking at those companies paper. I'll be having surgery on my left thumb Nov 3rd. We're snowbirds so I've been busy packing the few card making things I take with me for the winter. Where we go there is only Hobby Lobby. There are no real scrap booking stores in our area. So I do order online if I can't find something or want a new stamp. I wanted to get a better paper for use with colored pencil to take with me. Thanks again for all your help. Maddie

Prismacolour Pencils, Zest It (sponge in a pot) and COPY PAPER are my go to favourite combination.

I like Gina K paper that Lydia is referring to for colored pencils. It is heavier than her layering 80 pound paper and thinner than the heavy base weight 120 pound paper. She made a video featuring that paper. It is called Artists Choice paper. Here is the video: http://stamptv.ning.com/video/colore...ls-with-gamsol

It is a Digi stamp by Aurora Wings. She has the most amazing stamps at aurorawings.com

Here is a link to my card, there are some colouring on paper tips that might be helpful. Heaps of my cards are done using copy paper images. Hope this helps.

Well I went to La Crosse today and went to Michael's and bought Strathmore Bristol Vellum. They had so many types of Bristol paper Canson XL and I didn't know what kind to buy except I knew I probably didn't want watercolor paper because my pencils aren't water color pencils. Is any one able to tell me what kind of that companies paper would be a good choice? Dina in one of the attached links said that company is a good one. But didn't say what type of that company would be a good no water colored pencil type.

My favorite is the Georgia pacific 110 cardstock from Walmart or Sam’s club. It seems to have just a little tooth to it which I like. I find it pretty easy to smooth my coloring and move the color around. I use Prismas and Gamsol. I have been happy with my results. I am not an Artist so my coloring isn’t anywhere near the Fabulous coloring the talented artists here produce.
