visiting canada in August
I'm fair jumping out of my skin I'm so excited about visiting Canada. I only have a little over 2 weeks there but I want to visit a few crafty places. Can I have some suggestions. I arrive in Vancouver and wend our way over to Canmore. Would love to check out craft places along the way. Z
You should go to the island, Victoria, wery beautiful!
I'm not sure which way you are going towards Canmore but Revelstoke Mountain is beautiful. It reminds me of Switzerland with meadows of flowers so high up on the mountain. The view is wonderful!
Banff and Jasper, Morane Lake, and Lake Louise (all in Alberta)
Hope this helps,
As for craft stores...it's early and I missed that part of your request...sorry I don't know any BUT welcome to this great country....My dh and I are heading to the complete other side of Canada...Newfoundland. Enjoy!

Thanks for the welcome. I'm so excited. I've never seen snow and am looking forward to seeing it on the mountains. We will be going to Lake Louise and Jasper. I'm hoping to pick up something unique to Canada in the way of crafts. I love handmade things and appreciate the work that goes into them. Z
When you're in Banff make sure you take the time to stop off at Johnson Lake, Two Jack Lake and Lake Minnewanka- all super gorgeous! Between Lake Louise and Banff is Johnston Canyon, a great little hike through a canyon, many waterfalls really nice. We were there not too long ago you can see pics on my family blog close to the bottom. www.the-head-family.blogspot.com.
Enjoy your time in Canada we love living here! We are making it a priority to be out in the mountains twice a month over the summer months.
Check out the local Michaels too, when I was in Calgary last year on vacation I picked up a whole bunch of Canada themed stamps from Studio G in the $1.50 section!
If you make it into Calgary (where I live) there are quite a few really nice little shops. PaperPastimes is one of my favourites, then there's Scrapbooker's Paradise (little pricey but they have a nice 70% off section). Of course we have several Michaels stores and lots of Dollar stores that have some neat stuff too.
This is on Granville Island, which is a great tourist destination. The store is located in the bright yellow Kids Market. Also on Granville Island is the Net Loft, which is a group of stores featuring local artists. Definitely worth checking out!
They're doing some renovations so they're supposed to be bigger now. If your birthday happens to be in August then you get a coupon for 25% off everything!
HTH - there are some others a little east in the valley that I'm not familiar with; I think someone has mentioned the Langley stores.
I don't have any suggestions for craft stores but I lived in Jasper, Alberta for three years. Go to North Face Pizza on Connaught street and treat yourself to the best smoked salmon pizza in the WORLD!!! You won't regret it!
Both are fantastic and they are within blocks of each other....
this is "my" scrapbook store (i teach classes there monthly) and it's awesome.. go to their website, sign up for their email newsletters and EVERY week, (no joke) they send out a coupon... clipper doesn't do coupons/sales, but they offer some product that precious memories do not, so i concur with sherrie, visit both. they're great!

Make that a third vote from me for Precious Memories and Clipper Street. I was in Calgary last week and I visited Paper Pastimes, so I vote for it too. some very unusual things in that store and she has a great range of brass stencils including the Fold 'Em ones. If you like Basic Grey paper, there is another store in Calgary on Canyon Meadows Drive, called Scrapyard that has the most amazing selection of BG that I have ever seen.
I hope you like our country as much as we liked yours. I would jump at the chance to go back there.
Can I toss in a request too? I am flying into Spokane, WA on July 3rd and then driving to Rossland, British Columbia for a week. Anything in either city or along the way for stores? Sites to see?

Happy shopping,

This is good to know about Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. Ds is heading out to go to SFU ... and will be living near VGH (for now) ... so Granville Island is right there!
I could REALLY ENJOY visiting him!
