I'm taking the leap into the craft ink world! I was looking at buying some used stamp pads. Do you guys think that pads from a couple of years ago (2002-03) are still good? They are the flip top style.
Second question: How different are the old colors from the new colors in the rich regals-Handsome Hunter vs. forest foliage, bravo burgundy vs baroque burgundy, elegant eggplant vs. eggplant envy, regal rose vs. rose romance.
Thanks
Where are you buying them from ? Is it someone you know and trust? If it's just a reseller, I'd be cautious. You have no recourse if they turn out not to be any good. Also, by the time you pay shipping, are you *really* saving any money? And you'll probably have to buy the reinkers.
If it's your demo or neighbor, get a good look at them--make sure they still have plenty of color left in them.
The new colors are very different. Whether that matters to you is very individual. If you buy current Su products, you won't be able to get matching cardstock, markers, etc. If you're trying to duplicate stuff you find here, it won't be simple. If you buy all your supplies from other companies, then it doesn't matter so much.
Did you know you can buy craft spots? It's about $25 per family for 1 inch square miniature pads. That may be a better way to go. If you need a Stampin Up demo, pm me and I'll give you the info to reach mine. She's awesome!
Be careful buying old craft pads-check if they are the linen or foam.
If they have a linen cover just pass. I have some I traded for and they bite! But if tehy are foam ones I would if it is a good deal b/c you can always get reinkers if needed.

Just ask them what type they are. Linen craft pads look very similar to the classic pads-they have a linen top to them. But they do not readily allow the thick pigment ink to flow through. They changed the design maybe 2 or 3 (not sure which) years ago and now it is straight foam pad.

I hate the new pads because they dip down in the middle after usage. That really bugs me. I much prefer the flip top kind but can someone tell me if SU used to sell the foam pads but with the flip top?

I've never had this problem occur with my Craft pads. But, it does occur with my Classic (dye) pads. I slip two pieces of cardboard stacked together under the lid to provide support and it has eliminated the sagging problem that can occur due to the case design, when inking long or larger images.

No, they never carried foam pads with flip top lids.
Before they produced their own line of Craft Pads, they carried Fabrico Pads, made by Tsukineko. The lids came off entirely, however, and didn't "flip". Tsukineko has since changed the name of their Fabrico Pads to VersaCraft, but the case design remains non-flip, I believe.

OK I'm hanging my head:oops:
I received one of the craft sets off of ebay that I won and they have obviously been used more then once as stated! UGH! I had already bought them before I asked you guys my question...I should of went here first...lesson learned!
So much for my "GOOD DEAL"
you could let it dry out, and then purchase a re-inker in one of the new colors? Or is the pad dirty? what's wrong with it- maybe someone can still help you work with what you've got.

File a complaint with the seller and ask for a refund. If the seller refuses, leave negative feedback and file a formal complaint with eBay since the item was not as stated in the description.
