unusual bizarre request
While in the Army, my 22 y/o son has been diagnosed with a rather nasty type of lupus. When I spoke to him over the weekend he sais the Dr's are changing his chemotherapy and he's being sent to a sperm bank soon, as he says "to save his boys" in the off-chance of sterility. Anyway, tomorrow is his 23rd birthday and along with sending him a "porn mag" for his visit I was trying to come up with a funny/obnoxious/sarcastic card for the occasion. Any ideas will be appreciated

What a sad situation and I will be praying for you family. You could cut out some baby pictures from ads or magazines and give them names and make them your future grandchildren that you really want to see and hold in person!

p.s. A friend in the Marines went through chemo a few years ago and was told he was sterile. They already had three kids and were fine with it. His wife is now 7 months pregnant!

I'm sorry, I don't have any creative ideas for you, but I just wanted to wish your son well. It's great that he's thinking of the future!! Also Thank him for serving our country!!!

Sorry to hear your son is having to face this, what an awful thing at his age.
Ummmm, I'm in the UK so not sure how well the linguistic stuff travels across the ocean but how about a card with a soldier at attention and a sentiment along the lines of "You always did stand proud"
Or "Make the most of it - there aren't many days in your life when it's OK to be a ****er" (insert appropriate slang word for the action he'll be performing).
I hope everything goes OK for him in his treatment.
Well at least he has a great mom like you who will send him a nice porn mag to make it a bit easier to do the deed. Thankfully the doctors gave him that option to save his sperm so he can have kids later just in case. Good luck and I hope he gets the best treatment he can find.
I just want to wish your son well. Please tell him there are people out here praying for him! And thank him for his service. His strength is inspiring! I love Joanne's idea...it seems that you guys have a wild sense of humor and it made me laugh out loud so he may laugh at it too. I thought the word "wank" sounded funny in the blank but that's up to you (can I type that word here, I'm not sure if it's necessarily a bad word or not?). I think laughter is great medicine and I hope he gets a big laugh out of his mother going to such lengths for him. You're a sweet mom!
P.S. In the south, we say "Keep up the good work" a lot, maybe that would apply in this situation??

Thank you ALL for your words of support, they are very much appreciated! So far I like all those ideas. A sense of humor is the only way to help get through this, we've suffered enough losing Hannah...

Kim,
Don't have any creative ideas for you, just want - like everyone else - to wish your son the best.
My son's birthday is today - he's 28! He was diagnosed in January with MS, so I know how quickly everything can change.
Thank your son for serving our country. Hope he'll get along okay with the lupus.
I hope your son is feeling better soon!
For some reason, I keep picturing a card with hand drawn sperm (should be easy to draw!) and the sentiment, "Keep swimming, keep swimming..." ala Dory from Nemo.
I just read that you lost your daughter Hannah. So sorry to hear that your family is suffering another setback with your son. Not like you needed anymore trauma in your life! Here's to hoping your son has strong swimmers and may they find their destination when the time 'comes'!

I like this...Dory and Nemo on the front swimming in a pool of sperm...on the inside...Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.
Didn't mean to hijack. Just when I read this...I had this sudden pic of the card.
I am sorry your son is going through this! Please be sure to thank him for his work for our country. It is greatly appreciated!

I just have to say that I have gotten a kick out of reading some of these replies. I don't have any suggestions, but I did want to say best of luck to your son.

I actually want to thank your son as well and let him know his service to our country is appreciated. I hope all will go well with freezing his boys and you are a great mom to share this scary time with him in such a way. Go, Mom. Thanks, Soldier.
make sure he knows that all the SCS gals are pullin' for him!
Tell him we offered to make a 'Women of SCS' pin up calendar for him for inspiration. No don't--it might shock him to know his mother cyber-associates with such wild women.
Seriously, what a heads up kid to think about your future grandchildren at 22. Bless you all!

Will try to post it when it's done. A friend of my son who is an excellent artist offered to draw me a picture of a sperm wearing an Army helmet saluting while standing at attention to put on the card. Anyone want to run with that????

Gosh - just read all the comments - my prayers are with your son, and with you.
Now - on to the Army sperm guy....
If he's saluting, I immediately thought of "at your service"
and maybe adding on the inside the verse of the Army song:
Then it’s Hi! Hi! Hey!
The Army’s on its way.
Count off the cadence loud and strong (TWO! THREE!)
For where e’er we go,
You will always know
That The Army Goes Rolling Along.
Was just reading a post about a starbucks gift certificate scam and one poster mentioned that she got scammed by one of those free things and she still gets emails about how to invigorate her little "soldier of love." That made me LOL and think of this thread. How are things going?
You have already given your boy the best he could ever ask for, need or want. You. Your love and understanding. I am a Marine Mom, while I have not gone through anything like this with my son, I can feel your heart crack pain. Tell your boy to go put the little soldiers in several jars, and the, do it all over again so he can have an Army of kids...(More grandbabies for you, right???) Then, continue to do the great job that he is doing. And give him a kiss from a Marine Mom - Hoorah!!
