Sure, and it's fairly easy. I just got under the rubber seam with my sharp scissors and started cutting. It only took a couple cuts. Then I just gently pulled the rubber from the wheel---off it came! I also just peeled/scratched off any adhesive residue. This entire process was incredibly simple. What's a little harder is finding an acrylic block that is long enough for them. I finally just ordered one. I also ordered some EZ Mount as that's impossible to find in most craft stores. Or what you can do is use double stick tape or the tacky stuff ...can't remember what it's called. Good luck!
I grabbed my craft knife, and carefully cut down the seam and it peeled off really easy. (my first one was on a wheel that was no big loss if it didn't work out!) I then scratched/rubbed off the residue adhesive with my fingers - easy peasy.
I use EZ mount for all my um stamps so stuck that on the back, and had 2x acrylic blocks made - one for the standard sized and one for the jumbo wheels.
When I unmounted mine, they just came apart. It came apart really easy at the seam and then just peeled off the wheel. I have a block that fit them already, but you could also use the clear plate from your cuttlebug if you don't have a big block (after all, it is a big acrylic block).

I'm keeping all my SU mounted as I love wood mounted but I'm think I should take my wheels apart. Makes sense to me and so easy. I may also unmount my few two step stamps....

This is what I did with mine. I un-mounted a Merry Christmas one from SU and cut the 2 words apart so I can use them on a card as the strip was way to long for a card. I love it and now it is so easy to use!
I have just started unmounting my SU stamps and I think I will also unmount the wheels, as I always forget I have them or it is too much of a hassle to use them for a quick project. Thanks for the information on how to unmount them.

You just pointed out the main reason I should unmount the wheels!!!

Two steps are much easier when you can look through the acrylic block. But then, that's the same reason I have unmounted all my other stamps. That and space!!!
I have unmounted my wheels too and do not regret it. I use the stamps much more. I even cut apart the images on SU's Baby Time wheel giving me whole bunch of baby images.
Awesome thank you for all the help ladies. Now to find the time to actually do it.
Just FYI - it takes almost NO time to do this! I did 30 of them in under 20 minutes, no kidding! I've cut apart several of them (Baby Time, Great Outdoors) to use the images separately. It's also a very economical way to get a bunch of images - the Friendly Words and Bright Blessings are two examples of a bunch of words/sentiments for CHEAP! I unmounted all of my wheels because I am SEVERELY wheel-challenged - couldn't get a decent image even with a guide, LOL! I also kept forgetting about them, since they weren't with my other stamps. Now I use them a LOT more! Have fun!
OK - Several have mentioned the jumbo wheels - where did you finds blocks big enough to fit or where do you go to have them made?
Thanks, Diane
Once upon a time in another life I was a CTMH demo, and they have a block that works with the unmounted wheels. I already had it, fortunately, but I'm sure you could find a demo in your area to order one from if you couldn't find one at your LSS or something... Someone farther up this thread mentioned using the plate from the Cuttlebug - not a bad plan, that!
I did this with mine as well. I just got some EZ mount on the back. Plus I found a block large enough at Michaels, it even has the wavy edge for a better grip.
Just thought I'd chime in to say that I love, love, LOVE my wheels unmounted. I never used my wheels before because I'd forget about them since they were stored separately, I couldn't get them straight (even with the wheel guide) or I never had the cartridge in the right color or size for what I needed. I actually stopped buying them because I never used them. Now, I have none of those problems. And as a bonus, I store my wheel and the matching set together in a clear DVD case so its uber organized!
If you're thinking about doing it, go for it! I have ZERO regrets and only wished I had done it sooner!

Oh I just love this website!!! You ladies are a wealth of information!! I just ordered a new acrylic block 2.5 x 12 so all my wheels will fit!! Now, I just have to get EZ mount. Where can I find this? Suggestions, please. Thank you.

I never, ever, ever thought about unmounting the wheels. Saving space makes sense, but what about the wheels that are just a repeated design? And how does that length of rubber fir in a CD case? help??
Stupid, stupid Weekly Inkling! It suggests I take a look at this forum... next thing I know I spend two hours unmounting all my wheels! Okay, girls, now what do we do with all those black wheels??? And I can't believe I bought those fabulous wheel storage boxes!!! Hmmm... what other wheels can I buy now that I'm going to actually use them???

Thanks for all your tips! Great tutorial, Jodylynn! I haven't yet done this myself...but I think I should!
One tip I'd like to offer for those of you who mount the rubber onto EZ-Mount: stamp the image with Staz-On onto the Ez-Mount foam before you adhere them together, that way you can see the image on the grey foam side! :-D I put the rubber on my acrylic block (usually the glue that's on it is enough, else use double-sided tape). I ink it up with Staz-On ink & then I usually eyeball it to line them up. (You could use your Stamp-a-ma-jig to line them up, too). I then remove the protective paper from the sticky side of the Ez-Mount and glue 'em together. Yes, Staz-On can be hard to remove, but I get most of it out with handsoap, water and a bit of effort.
*facepalm* how come I never thought of this?!?!!!!!! Makes total sense.. I don't use the ink rollers with the wheels, and get really tired of rolling the inks on my pads.. makes TOTAL sense to take the rubber off the wheels.
I, too was wondering about what to do with the wheels aftrwards,. I was thinking about recycling them..not sure if you can as its colored plastic. Anyone know?
What did everyone do with the actual wheels once you unmounted them?

I actually wrapped some rubber bands around a few of them and made some great backgrounds. I "recycled" the rest.
Here is one of the cards I made with the backgrounds. Sorry it's a little blurred.

What a neat card and great idea!
I am working on unmounting them now....difficulties with finding the EZ Mount and acrylic block here. Had to ask my stamping store to order them for me, which they did.
Like gina, I don't get how the rubber would fit into a CD case? Any other storage tips? I'm afraid I will unmount them, and not have a good storage solution, and then [I]still[I]end up not using them. (Frequent problem for me.)
