Here is something I learned by accident, then also saw it on the back of a product.
If you fold your cardpiece in half before punching it, you will have a natural "pop up" half. You have to make one of each half of course, but for butterflies or something like that this is great and easy to create. Make sure the fold is in the center of the punch so it does not get cut off.
Sheila, if you subscribe to the thread, it will come up when there are new posts. Wasn't sure if you knew that. You can also access from the Quick Links section at the top of the page when you're subbed. (I only learned that recently, myself.)
Hi Linda: Thanks for your helpful hint. Not to continue to beat the dead horse, but I'm afraid that eventually, this thread will fall off most people's radar, despite some people's efforts to bump it up. There won't be any new comments posted for some time, the thread will be forgotten by most of us, maybe even all of us, and all of the fantastic hints and lessons learned posted by both new and veteran stampers will be lost. Subscribing to the thread won't change that, unfortunately. :-(
I really would like for this thread to become a "sticky" topic, but I also understand that I have no idea what the criteria are for that designation and have no right to demand it. Just my two cents. Hope I haven't hijacked this topic too much or reduced other people's enjoyment of it.

This is a great thread and very happy it was started - hopefully it will continue to be a help. There are always 'newbies' out there with questions and they have a place to ask here. :-D
I think that anyone doing a polished stone technique can look like a pro. I have been stamping for over 15 years and I get more compliments for this technique!
If you don't have a stamp postioner then stamp on a piece of scrap cardstock and then use a paper cutter to get it centered. I think layering always looks really nice. I stamp an image on a piece of 3x3" cardstock and then layer it with another piece of darker cardstock cut 3 1/4" x 3 1/4" and then another color cut 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" ..I layer images sometimes just 2 or 3 layers and it looks nice.

Can you please direct me to the polished stone technique? Also, perhaps some cards done with this technique. I'm not familiar with it. Thank you.

Go up to the top where your user name is and click on it. Then on the left where you get your PM's go to edit Avatar or Edit Profile picture and browse / upload from there.
It means stampamajig. It's a tool to help position a stamp in the exact place that you want.
On the home page, on the bottom left side, there is a link that says "Find out about all those crazy acronyms". It is also on the thread "Start Here" which is the very first thread. It is the 3rd sticky down or you can click here. HTH (hope that helps).
HELP... still not working to add picture to my name, the one I first picked I can't get rid of even when I check delete the picture or reset fields. What am I doing wrong ????
Here's an idea I read about yesterday on a forum discussing stamping spots. I never thought of it before myself but thought it was a good idea.
You can use the stamping spots as stamps themselves by turning them upside down and touching/pressing them to the paper/cardstock. They make perfect squares!
Some of my first cards have brads that show through too! Then I read a tip on SC and now I try to layer them so they are covered too. As a newbie we always learn as we go.
This is a good idea to post tips for newbies!
I love using coffee filters for catching my embossing powders. I lay the coffee filter beneath the area I am working on, and pour the desired powder over the stamped image. I gently tap the excess onto the coffee filter, fold the filter in half with the captured powder inside and pour the excess back into the embossing jar. So easy! The filter just lets the powder slide right off, and clean up is done!

I'm so sorry. I've read and read and read the above and I still don't get it :( I love paper manipulation more than stamping (gasp!) so it sounds like something I'm going to like. I just don't understand yet. Can anyone enlighten me please? or point me at a pic? TIA.
Cheesehead, I was thinking the EXACT same thing....... I'm not getting it either......but it sounds like something very cool, so of course i MUST know!!!

WEll, I guess you would get the same thing by folding each cut out, but this way it is exactly folded when you cut it. Fold paper in half with the fold in the center of the cutout and cut. A perfectly folded piece that will have half of it "pop" up and half to stick to the card. I am not savvy enough to attach a picture yet. The thing I like about it is you can center your design perfectly before cutting so it is just so on your popped up piece rather than folding after and hoping it cut centered.

Can anyone explain what a shoebox swap is and how it works? I see them, I gather they are some kind of group gathering thing, since they are usually associated with a get together, but they are not descriptive like swaps are at the beginning of the threads. It seems to be assumed everyone knows what they are talking about. I was thinking of doing some kind of gathering in Ohio and was wondering if this would be something to include.

What you do is design a card (and make at least one copy of it). You then have to bring everything for the people at the gathering to do the card you designed. Cardstock (cut to the right size), ink, stamps, embellishments, etc. Most people put everything for the card in a shoebox...that's where the name comes from.
Hope this helps...

You ladies are amazing! I'm brand new to the site, and new to stamping, and I've learned so much just from reading this thread and browsing the site for the past hour! I have spent *WAY* too much money on random things at M's and JA's, and now I know just to buy what I need from now on! I can't wait to perfect my techniques, and learn from all of you!!

I got my clear envies today and was so thrilled with them! Thanks Amber. I got so excited I cased my cards that I use for guidelines in a loose leaf book and then envied up the originals I will sell at work. Wow it is amazing how much class one clear, no frill envie can add to a card. From now on all of my swappy pals will get a clear envie with their card (and I will be sure they know where it came from)>
Hi! I have enjoyed reading all the info. I make cards to sell and have just recently started using stamps. I was wonder if any new of any stamps to use besides Penny Black or Stampin Up that does not require you to have to go through allot of paperwork to use their stamps?

I personally dont know, but bumping the thread in hopes that someone else will jump in here for you. BTW Welcome to the site! I see this is only your 3rd post. Glad to have you on board.
I've not read through all of the tips posted here so if I'm posting a duplicate - I'm sorry. I learned that you make a sticker dimensional. Take your sticker and sprinkle some baby powder on it (sticker will no longer be sticky) and then place the sticker on a 3-d dot - I like using the stickers that are the heavier ones

I was messing around (literally) with my Stampamajig today. I found that the Simply Said set from SU makes the best palm tree tops using two shades of greens and the two pointy flower parts! I was just trying colors and all of a sudden I had a palm tree top. Just thought I would share
