I'm so frustrated. There has got to be a better system for leaving comments on the daily gallery entries. It's so frustrating and time consuming! I want to comment and compliment everyone's work----but I can't spend all day waiting for pages to load and wrap? Am I being a baby? Why is the back button so convoluted---how is everyone else doing it?
I know this sounds funny, but I haven't found some fabulous button that gets me back to where I want to be looking at cards.
So it's 3 "backs" if you just made a comment or if you just added the card to your favorites.
And it's 5 "backs" if you did both, made a comment and added to your favorites.
It is a little tedious.........
I use the browser Firefox, which has the fabulous feature of opening new pages in tabs within one browser window (as opposed to IE where you have to open up a new window each time). So when I am in the gallery, I see a thumbnail I like and middle-click on it to open up that card in a new tab. Then as that page loads I continue scanning the gallery thumbnails and loading more cards. By the time I get to the bottom of that gallery page, most of the cards I opened to view bigger have finished loading. Then I can look at them, leave comments, and move on to the next tab while the comment is loading.
Other folks use IExplorer and just open each card in a new window. I hate doing that because it is so much more disorganised and messy than Firefox's tabs.
If you go to www.mozilla.com, you can download the latest version of Firefox and all of your bookmarks, etc. will be automatically copied over to it, so no fuss or muss! Plus, you can change your font size quickly and easily with the click of a button and roll of your wheel on Firefox. HTH! If I had to view the gallery using the linear, old-fashioned way I would be leaving NO comments.
If you use Mozilla Firefox as your internet browser (it's awesome, BTW, at ad blocking, cookie control, etc...and it's free! *grin*) you can just right click and open in new tab. No hitting the back button and o logging in again, just leave the message and then close the tab when you're done.
I use Firefox, but I don't use the tabs. After I hit "submit" to leave a comment, I don't even wait for it to load and come back to the picture. Right after I hit the button and it takes me to the "please wait while we load..." page, I just hit the back button--once to get back to the picture, twice to get back to the page with all the pictures. Kinda' like scrappintica...but I don't wait for the last page. It is very quick, and it seems to load my comments okay (wish it would spellcheck & correct them too...but I can't have everything!).

I have to sit and wait so long sometimes for it to get to the "please wait" page after I hit submit. you are more patient than I am, or else you have a better connection.
I use firefox also. It is a great way to look at the gallery. Just click on the cards you want to look at and they load while you keep looking. You can quickly go thru cards and leave comments and close pages without ever having to hit the back button. Try it you will never go back to the old way. It is so much quicker.
And "Suedstamper" you really should try using the tabs. You don't get the full benefit of Firefox if you don't use the tabs. Hitting the back button all the time would drive me nuts.

You can also hit that little downward arrow next to the back button on explorer. It will give you a pulldown on your last few pages and you can choose to skip a few. I also don't wait for the page to load I'm too impatient.

I have the same exact problems you do. I would love to leave comments for everyone but is sooo slow. And I have a cable connection. So go figure.

I know  ...my son has been bugging me for months about it. But I figure if I'm happy, why change. The biggest benefit I get from Firefox is that the pop-ups have virtually disappeared. I went from about 30-50 pop-ups every day, to a total of 7-8 in the last year or so! And it seems to go so much faster than MS Explorer...maybe because there are no pop-ups.
Plus, if I open a tab, won't it make the picture I am looking at smaller? Maybe I just have to try it and see. Right now there is really no lag time at all. I hit submit, it goes to the next screen, and I back up twice. It's a matter of 1-2 seconds total.
Hmm...now I see how I could go even faster since the extra window will allow me to keep going forward instead of backing up. Ok...I will give it a try!
All I do is right click to open in a new window. Easier to leave comments and/or add tooo favorites. I don't end up with double of my favorites.
This too is the way I leave comments in the Gallery....The other way was to time consuming! I right click and open another window. Leave me comment, Save it if I want to. Then I close that window and go to the next picture. Someone mention this way a while back and I've been doing ever since.
In another thread someone posted that if you hit the shift key before clicking on a pic, it'll open in a new window. I click on several at a time and then minimize them after commenting. That way you don't have to wait.

Okay you Firefox users, you have to help the dummy! The dummy being me. I downloaded and have it set as my browser but it isn't giving me tabs. What do I do?

Hi Heidi,
I'm a firefox fan, too. To open a link in a tab, right click on the link, then select "open in new tab". It's prolly the 2nd option in the list.
You'll see a new toolbar appear that shows your tabs. It will have it's own *X* button to close only the tab you are currently in. You're going to love this.
There is a way to set opening any link in a new tab as default. You have to download a Firefox extension called "Tab Mix Plus Options". Clicking on the "Extensions" link under the "Tools" tab will take you right to it.
Download the extension, close then reopen Firefox, and then you'll find the "Tab Mix Plus Options" in your "Tools" tab menu. On the first page of settings you can select what types of links you want to force open in a new tab.
It's great for when you're doing gallery comments, but will probably prove to be way to messy for general use.
Good luck.

If you have a scroll wheel on your mouse you can click on that and it will create a new tab for you. For example I put my mouse over a card I want to see and click on the wheel, that card will show up in a new tab. Very easy. Thanks to Daven for telling us about that one. I used to right click on the mouse and then clicked on the new tab option, but now that seems slow to me. The wheel is the way to go. Quick Quick Quick!!!!

This sounds wonderful...but isn't working for me.
Maybe tomorrow I'll check my mouse button settings and see if I can make that happen, too.
Love those tabs, though, anyway I can get 'em!
Thanks!

My Firefox automatically opens all SCS links in new tabs; I don't remember doing any special monkey business to get that to happen, but when Firefox first came out I did all kinds of fiddling and installing of extensions and stuff, so the numerous upgrades since then may have maintained my original settings. I'm running version 1.0.7 at home (I installed the new 1.5.0.2 on my work terminal and it's messed up, so I am sticking with what works for me!). To set what opens in tabs automatically, just go to Tools > Options and then in the vertical bar on the left, the second icon down is for Tabbed Browsing. In the white box you can scroll down on this settings dialogue box and there is a category for Tab Focus which allows you to set whether middle-clicked links open in a new tab. If this doesn't make any sense, poke around in the Tools > Options > Tabbed Browsing (or similar) dialogue box a bit. You may be running a different version than I am.
I run internet explorer. After I comment, I push the little tiny arrow next to the back button. Then in the drop down it shows, I choose where I want to go back to. Saves time...
You can also hit that little downward arrow next to the back button on explorer. It will give you a pulldown on your last few pages and you can choose to skip a few. I also don't wait for the page to load I'm too impatient.
I have AOL and I use the little arrow button too. It gives you a menu of pages visited and so you just click on the right page in the menu and it takes you back, it is soooo much quicker!
I'm also lucky, I'm in the UK, so I go on early in the morning, like now, when you are all asleep!
Lately, I've been having a hard time....we'll see if this even posts...I usually can get in this early in the morning, but it's already kicked me out! I have the highest speed cable offered in this area and I still have problems.....I"m downloading firefox right now...I'll give that a try! I love this site and what Daven and the gang does for us. It's like my coffee, I NEED IT!
Rox71 shared the following tip in thread one time.
Hold down the shift key when you click on the image in the gallery. It will pop the card up in another window. You can leave your comment and minimize the window while you continue browsing the gallery.
I tried it. I leave my comment, minimize the window and go onto the next. I go back after a few minutes to close out the extra windows once the comments post.
HTH
