I don't know if you ever get annoyed by little things, but it happens to me constantly. Just tonight I went out to dinner with my family and the first table we were seated at had a pretty bad wobble, so we moved, and the SECOND one had a slight wobble, but it still bugged me. I put a folded-up napkin underneath and I was happy..
anyway.. on to the topic at hand.
I will be reading an informative thread and there will be a multitude of posts that simply say "subscribing.." well that, my dear friends, is a HUGE pet peeve of mine, i DON'T KNOW WHY!!
all you have to do to subscribe to a thread is go to the THREAD TOOLS tab at the top of the thread, and click SUBSCRIBE TO THIS THREAD... done.
i hope this is informative to some of you.. you know what would be REALLY funny? if someone typed "subscribing" in this thread! hahahaha

I TOTALLY agree with you.....they could also just post a quick blurb (something informative or useful!) which will automatically do the same thing that typing "subscribing" in the post will do.

isn't it funny what pushes our buttons? My favorite is someone who complains about an "exact case" yet the card is a different color, stamp set, and layout ;)
I turned off the option to automatically subscribe to any thread where I posted a loooong time ago because my subscriptions were getting out of control, and now the tool from the pulldown menu is all I use. I normally don't go for e-mail updates on my subscriptions, but I can only imagine how irritating it can be to get useless update e-mails with nothing but "subscribing" messages in them!

One of my friends NEVER posts comments in the forums because she can't stand all the emails. I tried to explain about turning off the automatic subscription, but that was "way too hard."
One of my pet peeves (obviously) is a person who only listen to half of what I am saying, interrupts and tells me it's "too hard."

when i first came here, it took me FOREVER to figure out why I always saw posts that said SUBSCRIBING. i was like. . ..Uhhh. . ..what the heck does THAT mean!!????? (So yes, it sort of bugged me too!!! Especially when I didnt know what the heck it was!)
Some people honestly don't know how to subscribe, others are doing it to up their post count. That is my pet peeve. It really bugs me that people are so concerned with their post count that they will post when they don't have anything useful to say. Doesn't happen here so much as elsewhere.

Why would people want to up their post count? I've seen reference to this before... Don't get why it matters?!

It makes them LOOK cool! Ha, ha, ha! No....I think it might have to do with the fact that it'll change their little "level" under their name. When you get to some unGodly number of posts, you actually get to choose what that name is. Maybe that's it? Maybe they want to "name their status"? Maybe it's a vanity thing? They think that "The Most Posts...WINS!", or that it makes them look more popular? IDK!
Oh! I've never even looked for that button. The first time I posted something on here, I automatically started getting emails so I thought, "Cool. Easy subscribe." And never looked further. So you've educated me for one!

I never did understand the thrill of post counts-some people must wait til they have something important to say:twisted:
To the OP: I didn't realize there was an option to subscribe just by posting-so I learned that today, thanks.
and to SDiegogal, I soooooo wanted to do that too.-even tho I didn't know how it worked:rolleyes:

Yes, you can set the function to no email, or to get automatic updates right away, or by daily digest. If you click on "quick links" and then go into your "subscribed threads" you can delete subscriptions (and it's a good idea to clean that out once in a while), or change notification.
This is one of my forum peeves, too, so I hope a lot of people read and learned from this topic.
And for people wanting to up their post counts I have two words: GALLERY COMMENTS. ;)

There were lots of things I didn't know when I joined - it takes a while to get used to everything here. I also think there might be some sort of default setting (which seems to be different for everyone) because although my settings automatically subscribe to any thread I comment on, I've never had e-mail notifications. Now I know enough to be able to change anything I want to, but I'm guessing for some people, it's enough just to be able to be here
All that said, the whole "subscribing" thing really bugs me too. I've often wanted to PM the poster to let them know there's an easier way but can't think of a way of doing that which doesn't sound snarky. Hopefully, lots of people will read this thread and become enlightened!

I didn't know that went to post counts! There was a time... I think when I was a "rubber obsessor" or some other post count silly name... when I did some frivilous posting... gallery comments would have been so much more productive!

I normally don't select the e-mail reminder option when I subscribe, because usually I just want to easily be able to find a thread later that I may not have a need to post in. There are many info and suggestion threads in the demo forums that I'd like to refer back to at some point, and subscribing puts them all in one place for me! Occasionally I do want updates sent to my e-mail inbox because the thread topic may be fast-moving or time-sensitive, but I can't stand getting a digest e-mail with six "subscribing" posts and absolutely no useful information!

I think you guys are too picky! I mean honestly, what does it take for your eyes to skim over one word. Not trying to be snarky, but you might be making a lot of people feel bad. They might be in a hurry, they might not be computer savvy (like me!), or this just might be the easiest way for them to get the follow up they'd like on a particular thread. I don't think it's a big deal, or even a small deal!
I know I do tons of things that probably annoy someone (like right now), but thankfully people go easy on me.

i don't select the email option either except for ONE thread (the sketch challenge thread, and even after Roxy typed these "subscribing" instructions i'll still get emails saying "subscribing" ...)
anyway... to turn OFF email notifications, go to your settings page (click on your name "welcome jazzytobi" on the top right of the page) and go to EDIT OPTIONS, then go to MESSAGING AND NOTIFICATION, and there's an option to turn off email reminders, daily reminders FROM POSTS YOU'VE SUBSCRIBED TO...
p.s. i'm a teacher, in case you hadn't noticed... i get annoyed then want to lecture. haha

I agree, although I just figure some people didn't know how to sub any other way.
I am not computer savvy. So the fact that I figured it out (by myself) is amazing! But I'm sure I don't know most of the technical features on this site. I don't even have a gallery.
I do find when someone explains how to do something (tech stuff) they explain it in a way that assumes we all understand computers. Lol! My problem is I can't remember what I'm being told. Not sure if I should laugh at that one, because I'm only 46. That brings me back to why I don't have a gallery!
Anyway, here's to hoping this thread has taught many. Is there a SCS/ computers for dummies thread? I'll be the first one there.

Hijack...
*laugh* This brings back a memory. My first posts ever were cards that I had uploaded in the gallery. So I always thought one post = one uploaded card. I was sooooooooooooo awed by my very first comment-leavers who had thousands of posts - it boggled my mind trying to imagine how much time it would take to make thousands of cards and then to upload each one!!!
Ok, here is my example and why it bugs me so much. Ahmmm....on another board, I posted that I played with and really enjoyed the Nikon D300. I shoot with Olympus. I got tons of views and not one comment and frankly 50% of the people are Nikon users. Then I decided since I am not in the clique and it was obvious that no one was going to respond to change my post to ignore and the body to ignore. After that, there were 38 posts just doing the alphabet thing, A is for aperture. Now if that wasn't enough, there was a comment about me thinking they were obnoxious or something, don't recall which letter that was under lol. Anyway, that is why it peeves me when people are only interested in post counts. It doesn't matter, enjoy yourselves and don't worry about how many posts you have. One one board I have all of 137 posts and I have been on the board for since November, lol.

Well ladies, I'm embarrassed to admit that I've been a member more than 3 years now and I just figured out how to add a photo under my name TODAY!
There was always an *error message* saying my upload photo was too big.
I've enjoyed all the talent on this site and have learned many new things....
but..... was too embarrassed to ask *dumb* questions.
One of my pet peeves is that there are a lot of abbreviations used in the posts. I'm still trying to figure out a lot of them to this day! I know there is a thread somewhere explaining the meanings... but why not make it easier on us *newbies* and spell out the words? Us *newbies* feel left out.
That's my 2 cents. Thanks for listening. ha!

I'm sure for every newbie/non-techie, there's another person who just can't be bothered to learn, LOL! Seriously, I've encountered plenty of folks on these online message boards who just don't care. Relax, babe, and let us have our little "pet peeves" -- that's why they're called that, after all! I'm sure you've got your minor quibbles with the world around you as well, and you're entitled to them. ;)

i'll tell you why it's annoying.. for people who receive email updates for threads they've subscribed to, it's kind of a pain to check your email and see most of the posts say "subscribing".. i have a blackberry and when i'm paying for emails to be sent to me and they say in essence NOTHING, it's pretty annoying..
AND... the point of this thread was to tell people about that feature, not to complain about people who don't use it.

I also agree about the "subscribing" word. If you're going to take the effort to type that word, at least state why you are subscribing.
I'll add another pet peeve......People who have to put the entire post from someone else in the beginning of their post. Can't they just make a reference to it by name of the person or a few words of the post they are referring to? It just makes so much to scroll through to get to what the person actually wants to say.
