I just thought it was a rather polarizing choice for their marketing push. Brownies or cupcakes or plain doughnuts just seemed all a little more universal (and tastier) to me.

Agreed. Especially with the rising numbers of vegetarians (myself included).
Mid-fifties, love the layout of the mini more and more. It was kind of weird at first but I try to be open-minded and embrace new things. Change is good for the brain. ;)
Also, I'd like to add that I now like almost everything in the mini and can't wait to order.
I think the new mini is interesting. The projects inspire me, but honestly my wish list is very very small. I'm a little disappointed. I like some of the Halloween stamps from 2012-13 better. I don't like all of the kits.
I visually like the look of the mini if it were a magazine article that I was just looking at and not really trying to read the information - it's colorful and eye-catching, but for a catalog I hate the layout. For me (and only speaking for me and my age), I find it too confusing and fussy for trying to figure out what is what. But, obviously I'm too old for the age range SU is going after with these new layouts, because everything I see out nowdays geared towards the younger crowd, the layouts are all similar. I was at the library yesterday and saw a new release workout/health book and the layout was exactly the same. Although I wanted to read the information from the book, I put it back on the shelf and didn't bother because I knew for me, it would take too long to find the information among all the "weird" (to me) layout.
I'm right with you - probably the same age. We have expectations of what a "catalog" is - and this document calls itself a catalog.
===
Here's the Google definition of catalog:
Noun
A complete list of items, typically in alphabetical or other systematic order, in particular.
===
And there's the problem for me. There's no apparent systematic order. It seems chaotic to me. Anyone selling things ought not make their potential customers struggle as if playing a hidden object game.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I am up in the air on the envelope liner dies though. Love it but, will I really ever use them? We will see!
I had to whip through the catty really quickly, but I was thinking that the envelope liners were for weird sized envelopes. Can you tell me the sizes again please.

Three sizes to line these envelopes: 3-1/8" x 3-1/8" (Square Envelopes); 5-1/8" x 3-5/8" (Envelopes from Note Cards & Envelopes); 5-3/4" x 4-3/8" (Medium Envelopes) (AC p. 162). Use with Big Shot and Standard Cutting Pads (AC p. 184).
Oh Gosh! I saw two or three Christmas stamp sets I want...love the Christmas DP colors, saw a cute Halloween stamp ( the one with the pumpkins )....and the snowflake stamps and die cuts are calling my name...not to mention some of the washi tape!
And that was with just one quick "flip through" on the google link. Once I have that catalog in my hands I think my wallet is DOOMED.
I didn't have high hopes given that I've read so many "less than enthusiastic" comments out here. But I saw enough to put a dent in my budget and give me at least two different new but quick and easy card designs for this Christmas. Woo-Hoo!
Thanks ladies! I loved the look of the specialty paper in the envies and I'm sure if I'd spent more time I'd have figured out the sizes-thanks for helping me out. I also loved the Thanksgiving set with the woodgrain in it. I'm looking forward to spending more time with the catty in my hands soon!
Thanks for the link hint! I enjoyed looking at the catalog. I think there are some fun new things coming out, however, nothing that I have to have. I thought the same thing for the new annual catalog as well.

Now that I have the mini in hand and not trying to view it online, I wholeheartedly LOVE the new format. Love all the examples with the link to the page where to purchase items from. It's a big hit for me. Love it! Now need to decide what to add to my collection ;-)

Yeah, I've learned not to listen to people when they post that they don't like a catalog or a whatever, cause I usually do like it I love lots of things in this catalog, in fact, they arrived this week I'm playing with my new things right now. hmmm come to think of it... why DID I come over to the computer??
Just got mine yesterday and am loving it! So many good things - so little money! Well not really true about the money, but I can see I am going to buy a lot!

Yeah I know....but guess what I didn't do since it was "mine"....UGH! Someone at SU must have seen my blog post about how I lost my mind on vacation and lost a bunch of stuff (don't know WHAT my problem was) and they sent me a new one. Took me a while to realize it was a Canadian one though lol! The prices were just a bit off. :-)
You can BET I'll be labeling all my catalogs right away from now on! Ha! Figures right? :-)
I got my preorder this week, and didn't have an chance to play with anything until yesterday. I have to say, I am LOVING my new toys!!!! I am really jazzed about the bow die! It was the first thing I whipped out to play with! I even did a blog post on the bows....I suck at making bows and I am very excited!!!! LOVE IT!!!!!
I always like the hard copy of the catalog better than the pdf version. Something I did notice though, that I had NOT noticed on the pdf, was that stamps that have a punch or framelit that matches, are in a "vanilla" color instead of being outlined. I have to say that I like that better!! In the pdf version, I figured about $75. Now that I have the actual catalog, I think I may end up getting hostess rewards! haha, gotta love the paper catalogs!!!

I'm it a demo but received this in my inbox today about sign ups.
Hi, Stampin up has announced a SIGN UP SPECIAL: anyone that signs up between July 15th and August 31st will receive a FREE PROJECT KIT. There are 4 kits to choose from: (three are from the big catalog, one is from the new mini) -
option 1 - Build a Banner Simply Created Kit & Halloween Simply Created Accessories Kit (29.90 value)
option 2 - Build a Banner Simply Created Kit & Christmas Banner Simply Created Accessories Kit (29.90 value)
option 3 - Thankful Tablescape Simply Created Kit (19.95 value)
option 4 - Tag a Bag Bundle & Tag a Box Bundle (22.45 value)
When you consider the Starter Kit is only $99 and contains $125 worth of merchandise, without the added free project, it is a great deal!
There are several stamps I like. I'm interested in some of the papers and kits, but colors aren't listed. Example is the Merry Little Christmas Simple Created Card Kit. What are the colors??? There's a blue and a red, but what blue and what red? Same with the Season of Style DSP. Green and red, but what green and what red? I like the Season of Style journal, but there's not enough info. What colors are the pages? Are there white pages? Pockets? Too much missing info from the catalog. It's like "bright and shiny bright and shiny" to draw you in, but where is the substance?
And the set "Fun With Christmas" looks like it was drawn by a 5 year old.

Season of Style DSP lists the following colors under the description of the 12x12 paper: Baked Brown Sugar, Cherry Cobbler, Choc. Chip, Crumb Cake, Old Olive and Whisper White. I am guessing that the Season of Style journal has the same colors since it carries the same name...I could be wrong...
I would be willing to bet that a demo could quickly find out the exact colors in the Merry Little Christmas card kit; I would ask your demo That's why she/he is there!
I guess I look at the catalog as inspiration and look to my demo to provide the details and answer questions.

I received my mini catalog and looked through it few times, but i'm not exited about anything. I liked the bow maker and the envelope liners, but that's about it. I would like to see what Demo's come up with on the other products. Last year I wanted EVERYTHING...I guess its good for my pocket that I don't want much :p

I got the Seasons of Style journal and designed the cover today. Wanna see?
Now that I've seen the sneak peeks coming from CHA, I think I'll be passing on this SU catty. I'm saving up for when the other companies' products are available next month!
Other than the Sweater Weather DSP, which is one of the nicest sets of papers I've seen from them in a long, long time, there are only a couple of other things of interest. I won't be spending much from this catalog. The Christmas stamps do nothing for me. But, maybe because I've been at this for so long, I know I don't need more and that's where the "lack of appeal" comes in.
Since they're so secretive with their new catalogs I went ahead and bought all my Christmas stamps at the Orlando stamp convention. Didn't have to wait or pay shipping costs. Win-Win in my book!

I liked the mini. I liked the new punches. I think my hardcopy mudst be in jail at the Post Office. I'll have a better idea once I've seen the actual pictures.

I love that paper too, but I've never sent fall or Thanksgiving cards. I think those colors and patterns would be great for masculine cards, with Lovely As A Tree or that set with the tractor... Harvest Blessing's and that truck in Countryside. I have a collection of barns, old mills and covered bridges that would be perfect with that DSP!!
