Default Stitching felt ornaments

I love the Papertrey Ink offering of a set of dies that already have holes punched into them for stitches. People would use the dies with felt to create hand stitched Christmas ornaments. Unfortunately, I would use just one of the dies, I love the stuffed star ornaments the most. I cannot afford $100 plus to buy this set.

Does anyone else offer dies (for use with felt) that one could create ornaments with? The already die cut stitching holes are a bonus. Also, do other businesses offer high quality felt for sale, similar to PTI? I would love to make ornaments but don't know where to start, so I would love suggestions.

I make lots of felt ornaments at Christmas and just use any of my normal dies that are appropriate. They all work and as long as you can sew them together with a needle the punched holes is really an un-needed extra. As for felt..any good fabric store should be able to supply you with good quality felt. Just have fun with them.

Maybe these sets would be useful? I have the Little B pierced circle dies set and the holes are very big and could easily be stitched as well. I think the set is even cheaper than the MFT.

I have been pinning a lot of felt ornaments on Pinterest. If you scroll down to the middle of the page, you will see quite a few that could be made with or without dies.

I agree with the previous post that dies with holes are optional. I do, however, really like the PaperTrey felt. It is really thick and feels great (100 percent wool). I found this site recently, but have not ordered yet. Since the ornaments are small, the felt might be a worthwhile splurge.

You can pretty much use any die to cut felt. I have been doing a lot of this lately. And while I do agree that the holes do make it really easy to sew together, you really don't need them. So any star die would do.

I would highly recommend checking around for local quilt shops and calling them to see if they have 100% wool felt. There is one such place in my area that sells it (Eagle Creek Quilting in Shakopee, MN for those that want to know). Local craft or fabric stores may only have poly/wool felt blends which don't cut as nice. But you might get lucky at a fabric store that is not a JoAnn's, etc. My local quilt store sells a whole yard for somewhere between $9-$11 which is a much better deal than you'll likely find online. I do love PTI's felt but you don't get too much of it for the price.

I was also going to suggest quilt and needle art shops for wool felt. My favorite is made by Weeks Dye Works. Hand died, lovely, and thick...not cheap, but also not cheap quality.
