Just out of curiosity.... how many other states have their kids say a state pledge everyday after the pledge? We moved to Texas two years ago and it totally shocked me that they have a state pledge. Granted the last time I was in public school (i.e. high school but let's not calcualte how old I am....) was over 15 years ago but we did not do a state pledge in Illinois.
By the way, I am not sure how the Texas pledge goes but my 7-year old used to say:
"I pledge to LEAVE Texas" instead of LEAD Texas......
I've never even heard of a state pledge! Guess they don't have them in either Utah or California, 'cuz that's where I grew up. I think it's a cool idea, though.
I am from Texas and I don't recall having to say the Texas Pledge while in school. My children had to recite it so maybe it is something that started recently, like in the last 16 years (the age of my oldest).

(Sorry to the Texans, we just crack up everytime we see the that tourism campaign.)
I think it started last year. It was posted in Chandler's classroom last year, and they said it right after the Pledge of Allegiance:
Honor the Texas flag; I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one and indivisible.
We were all pretty amazed on the first day of school - I don't think any of us parents in that kindergarten class had ever recited the pledge to the Texas flag . . . I certainly had never heard it before then!
I was amazed to find out last spring that my state (Michigan) has a state pledge. There was an article in the newspaper talking about a local class that learned it and was working on getting the state house to say it before session. But it's definately not a whole statewide, kids saying it thing.
Hey, I knew you girls had answers to my question/curiosity.
And, yes, it really shows how much attention I pay to my daughter's school when I do not even know a one-sentence pledge!
Jenn, thanks for the full version - now Julie and I can practice this together (seriously! I asked her how it goes tonight and she did not know.... and she is in the second grade..... Like mother, like daughter.....)
Honor the Texas flag one nation invisible with library juices for all Amen.
He's in first, and has a terrific imagination - he laughed the whole time, and then told me, Mom, you should know it! You already went to school! I had to look it up on the internet to find it, though. . . shows how much I paid attention in Texas history!
We don't have a Wisconsin pledge! But my son's school recites a pledge to the Christian flag after the pledge of allegiance (he goes to a Christian school of course).
Jenn, I am sitting here at my daughter's computer (in Dallas) laughing at how your son said the state pledge. That is so cute. Kids do say the darndest things. I had never heard of a state pledge until reading this thread.

After much brain srarching last night, here is the pledge we had to say AFTER the pledge to the flag.
We the family of Lothian Elementary School show respect to ourselves, others, and to the property of others.
We come to school prepared to work.
We are responsible for what we say and do.
We work and play safely.
We tell the truth.
We show kindness.
You should see the expressions on the new kids when we would launch into that after the pledge of allegiance! I had a few that would even add "AMEN" since they thought it was a prayer (or maybe they were AMENing that it was finally over!)

i'm from tx and i remember when i was in grade school(long time ago) we said at like school functions(like plays and chorus things) but not every day. I didn't mind saying and if we still lived there i wouldn't mind my kids doing it either.
