Default standard card size using 8X11 piece of card stock

I see many card sizes on the gallery but am unsure how to cut my 8.5X11 card stock. I like cards both horizonal and vertical. Suggestions? Anyone please?!?

Cut your 8.5 x 11 exactly in the middle of the long side - @ the 5 1/2" measurement.

That will give you two identical pieces 5.5 x 8.5. Then fold (using your favorite scoring tool, if you like) in the middle on the long side. That will give you two cards exactly 5 1/2 by 4 1/4 - A2 size.

At that point, you can use them vertically (with the fold on the left) or horizontally (with the fold at the top). Easy peasy!

Having your cardstock in paper trimmer:
Horizontal: cut at 5 1/2 (1/2 of 11) your piece is then 5.5 x 8.5 - keeping horizontal score at 4 1/4
Vertical: cut at 4 1/4 (1/2 of 8.5) your piece is then 4 1/4 x 11 - turn horizontally and score at 5.5
Once scored and folded you can turn either of these however to best suit your layout.
