These are images which evoke and stir something in me; I respond to them! I love their creepiness, their black-ringed eyes, the very style in which they are drawn (like the artist drew them while sitting hunched over in a dark, dank dungeon)... <happy sigh>.
But alas, I know if I bought them, I would not use them frequently enough. I can't think of a single card recipient (of the people to whom I normally give cards) who would like these instead of looking askance at them.
But my mind is saying "who cares? Just buy one - just one...."

Just buy one!!!! Just for you, because you deserve it. Do without something else you would have bought. Give yourself a few days and if you still want it that bad, buy it. Been there done that.
PS And don't feel guilty about it!! Enjoy it!!
If you really love them, get one for yourself. I can think of several teenage girls I know that would think you were really cool for making them a card like that! Looks like some of them! ;)
You could always just make your art to display and enjoy it yourself, or send it to a magazine... who knows?! Have fun!
The stamps set I love but I never bought is SU Natures Silhouettes. I only have one "nature loving" couple that would love it . Plus the images are so unique I couldn't send it to them twice. I can't justify a $25 stamps set ( with shipping and tax) that I would only use once :(

Yeah, see? At least you thought of ONE couple... I could not think of anyone.
After reading all the responses, I have narrowed my wish list down to 13 creepy gothic stamps that I LOVE. I HAVE wanted these for days now! But... I had wanted Magnolia stamps (a different kind of creepy; more like cutesy-creepy) for MONTHS before I finally bought some.
Now my mind, instead of whispering "just ONE" it is whispering "just THIRTEEN"
Buy one and send me a card :-)
We celebrate a little Nightmare Before Christmas night most years. THat would be fun for that.
Oooh! I LOVE the images and artwork from that movie!!! I bought action figures (proper terminology??) of Jack Skellington and the sewed-up girl (forgot her name - Sally??). For a long time, I hung Jack from some twine (like he was hanged) on my rearview mirror, until I read that stuff like that (anything hanging from the rearview mirror) could possibly be dangerous and distracting; then I took it down.
If I buy one of these creepy stamps, I'll definitely send you a card!
I agree - you should totally get one (or thirteen!) of those stamps, Sophie! They remind me of one of my high-school obsessions, the Johnny the Homicidal Maniac comics. Now I'm trying to figure out what I could possibly use some of these for. I wish they had matching sentiments!
I love the "Kitty" stamp. I don't know anyone who would appreciate this kind of humor. I guess we'll all just have to send each other the cards we make with these "off" type stamps. ;)
One of my UK forum friends loves these stamps Sophie - she even made her blog header with them when she did a makeover recently (here if you'd like to see)! Stampotique has regular challenges so maybe you could get a stamp and just join in with those for fun and keep what you make for yourself? I'm with everybody else, no reason not to have a stamp that you love even if you can't think of anyone else who would like what you make with it - make things for yourself!

This is really good advice. I bought one Bella--bookwormabella--just for me because I'm a bookworm. She makes me happy. I occasionally use her to make a card for a friend who also likes to read, but I don't own a single other person stamp from any manufacturer. I'm not big into coloring and certainly don't have the artistic talent to do faces like you do!
You could even put it out on your desk just for decoration!
Joanne I love your friends blog header! I booked marked her.
I love some of the Invoke art stamps but I have no idea what to do with them. And even if I could make a card or a tag with them i would not know what to do with the finished product.
If anyone know of some good blogs with this type of art please post!
Those stamps are THE BEST! I have a bunch of them! You NEED them!
I agree, those stamps are THE BEST. They also force me to be more creative because once the guilt sets in I try to come up with some "out of the box" ideas to help convince myself it was a necessary purchase.
Oh you should buy at least one and make a card for youself, frame it and hang it up so you can enjoy it.
I have an odd assorment of stamps that I "inflict" on my friends - they know my sense of humor and even look for sick cards to send to me.
Also, thanks for enabling me - I just ordered "I Wish I Had Worn Panties" ... this may seem odd but I have a stamp that says "Party your panties off" - I use it with a senior citizenish woman. Now I can add the inside sentiment of "I Wish I Had Worn Panties" - my friends are going to crack up!
I also ordered "Gussie Up, we're havin' a party" I'm going to use her with blanche on this page at Art Impressions. It will make a great pool party invitation
Oh my gosh, there are SOOO many that I've fallen in love with recently. But because I already have a big stash I'm limiting my purchases. It has to be unique. I like PTI's new scrapbook series of stamps, but I don't scrap too much yet so I don't think they would get much use. There have been some great floral sets that have come out recently by a few companies, but I already have quite a few flower stamps and can't justify more right now.

Oooooh, I LOVE her blog and her style!!!
All right! I have decided. I will buy some!
(But I will wait until I must complete some very difficult or unpleasant task, and then I will reward myself by buying some (I've narrowed it down to ten stamps).)
You could draw a little music note with the rabbit and stamp "just a note", or with the Queen of Hearts and Standing Queen Alice, you can stamp "Get Well Soon" and add a lot of exclamation points (so it would be like a royal order). You could stamp a balloon trailing after the flying duo (you'd have to draw the string) and use that on a birthday card. The sitting Queen Alice and the normal-dress Alice could be used on "thinking of you" cards. The Royal Pillow-Holder could be used for graduation cards (stamp or draw a grad cap or diploma above the pillow). Oooh!! Also for Flying Duo, you could stamp swirling leaves around them and it would be a "happy Autumn" card. Oh! Also for the Royal Pillow-Holder, I would draw a simple rectangle above his pillow and stamp "For You" (er, stamp it first, and then draw) as if he's holding up a royal card.
Hmmm, stumped on the Dr Seuss one too, except for the graduation cards. You could make bookmarks galore with that set though! (and also with the Alice stamps!)
Bookmarks is probably what I'm thinking I could make with the Daniel Torrente stamps that I want.
Oooh, I love those stamps also! I local stamp and scrap store has a few of those and I was mesmerized with them...I darn near bought a couple but said "no!" for the same reasons...what will I use them for, no one I know would like them, etc. etc. etc. But you know what...I LIKE THEM and by gosh, thats reason enough to own 1 or 2, isnt it?!
Love the idea of making bookmarks with them. I think teenage girls or boys would love a bookmark made with something that looks that cool, dont you?
Could you do something *gasp* non-card with it? Something home dec for yourself? A cute desk set? I like it, too. You could possibly do some for a swap sometime.

LOL I saw those stamps at a convention recently!!! My friend and I were giggling over them. Love those naughty senior-citizen stamps!
I thought of some more! Royal Pillow-Holder could also have a cupcake or cake on his pillow, or a vase of flowers, or a pacifier or some other baby thing (for a baby congrats card). Agh!! The right word is actually "cushion" isn't it?? Not "pillow" - how silly of me! "Royal Cushion-Holder" is what I meant all along!
I'm a teacher (well going back and job hunting). Teachers would love to have some of those greetings/words stamped - make notecards for them!!!
And since we're talking about sending cards - you can send any one of those Seuss ones to me. Wouldn't it be awesome to have a whole line of the Seuss images??!!! OH my goodness- I'd be broker than broke!!!

Check out Carol's Feb. 5th entry on her blog. Love this stamp and the sentiment that goes with it! http://motherslittlehelper.typepad.com/ Is that the same artist?

I recently splurged and purchased this set - that I wanted for so long- I needed another masculine set - have cars and trucks - but they have been used too many times - so I finally bought this one and made 12 masculine birthday cards that I need for the year! I did the faux leather technique - the tree stamp can be used with many other images for different occasions in the future! If you would like I would be happy to stamp off a few images of the set for you.....just let me know!

I personally *love* the freaks.... I haven't bought any, for much the same reasons as you, but now I'm going to have to reconsider!

I think in US English you were right with "pillow" Sophie - us Brits would call it a cushion but I think across the Pond it's usually a pillow (we only use that word for the thing you rest your head on in bed, not the ones you have on your sofa etc). Great ideas for those images!

Such a good thread topic! Most of the stamps I buy are because they sing to me and I must have them - with no recipient in mind. So - when I go to make a card for someone and sift through my goodies, I shouldn't be in shock that I never have the right one! LOL!!
I love those Stampotique images - I've never seen them before!

Dan's blog is great!!! It's so neat seeing these cute creepy kids on journals and cards!!!
