During one of my many lost hours surfing crafty sites I stumbled across a new product from (I think?) K&co called a "Smash" book.
I think it's a really cool idea and wondered what the general opinion on this new product was and would it induce you to part with your hard earned cash?
Does anyone already have one and if so what are the benefits of having the actual product over using an alternative (as I do - pretty blank journals) for all those quotes, notes and thingy-ma-bits we crafters hoard!
For those who are as ignorant as I was until about 10mins ago here is a link to see what I am rambling on about!
I guess I do keep a smash book, just didn't know that I did. I have a sketchbook that I bought at one of the craft stores where I jot down pharses, paste in pictures from magazines, draw sketches of cards I like, color combos, etc. I've done this for MANY years, but mine sure isn't all pretty.

Reason: spelling
I have several 'smash' books that I've created and add to over the years. My favorite is a Kolo 3-ring Album with sheet protectors in it. I've used art notebooks for years, however, I LOVE my Kolo Album! My flat books get bulky rather quickly plus I love the extra protection of a sheet protector.
I must be dense as a door but I cannot figure out how this differs from a notebook...
I don't think you are dense at all. To me it is just a decorated notebook that someone printed smash on the cover. I don't get why it is called a smash book either.
All I can add is that there's a sucker born every minute.
Just another gimmick to add pictures of stuff we want to buy or do or try, and to get us to spend our hard-earned money buying or doing or trying.
No, no... I've GOT it! We buy it, stuff in in with all the other crapt stuff we don't need, and then we get to feel good about ourselves for GETTING RID OF IT.
Pure genius...

This is the first I've heard of this too. I guess I've kept a smash book, except I called it a "Brain Book". I used it to free up my brain from all those lists and ideas that kept running around in my head.
It does look interesting with all the little accessories. I would love it for all my theatre memorabilia (ticket stubs, playbills etc.). I will definitely be checking it out if it hits my local scrapbooking store.

This cracked me up and reminded me of a very old George Carlin routine: "That's all you need in life, a little place for your stuff."

I have kept these for years as well, with all my "when I get around to its", wishlists, and lovely ideas I find here & there, and I must be dense like you, Joan Bardee, because I call mine NOTEBOOK!
And when I was young,)looong time ago) we used to call this a "scrapbook".
Will they ever run out of gimmicks to steal our money? !!!
Thanks, Krista. And I was a HUGE George Carlin fan.
"That's all your house is, is a place to keep your stuff, while you go out and get more stuff."
He would have gotten a good laugh out of some of the threads here...

I've made several of my own with my Cinch. The only "different" thing I saw was the pen with the glue on one side and ink on the other, but it would not be hard to just get a zigg glue pen and add holder to my book, if I wanted to do something like that.

I wonder if 'smash' book goes with the phrase they had on that first link, that this is a smashing good idea...
I've got two on the go- one I use for doing samples of techniques, I call it an idea book.
The other one I've just started, has my own ideas, plans, layouts, sketches, etc. I use it for art stuff including stamping. I haven't prettied up the cover on this one yet, though.
Queen Latifa had a 'smash' book in her movie Last
Holiday {thinking that was the name of it}. She called it her book of POSSIBILITIES. {big sigh of love}. Long live the queen!

Funny, I've kept notebooks like this for years. Now I keep things like this on my computer. I just save things to different files and when I want to use it, I print it out. Takes up much less space!

All I know is from the teaching world. We took smash books up all the time at school. It is a junior high thing where you 'smash' another student. They pass them around and people make comments. As you probably guessed, they are not always flattering.
I thought I read a while back somewhere that it doesn't hit stores until some time in April. Totally gimicky and I love every bit of it, LOL!
I so agree with you! I also think I will get one for my niece who will be heading off to college. It's like an updated scrap book. She could shove all kinds of mementos in it.

Aw, that's awful.
I wonder if the ink/glue pen can be bought by itself.
It does sound like a cute gift idea! When I was in high school (30 years ago now!) we decorated our calendar/assignment books. My college age daughter keeps several different types of books like this; my favorite is one where she has encouraging notes from people stored up.
I wish I could keep an electronic smash book of ideas from the Saturday inspiration challenges! I always end up with way more ideas than I can squeeze into a day of card-making and then the next week I'm on to the next one! These look really cool though.
I must be dense as a door but I cannot figure out how this differs from a notebook...
Chi-chang! We're now 'given' permission to fill pages with stuff we've always used to fill pages....after paying for a book of blank pages. Art Journals have been around since forever; photo albums since just after forever; scrap books just after that; altered books have a long history; Glue Books were the rage a few years ago. Some marketing gal (guy) was smart enough to combine those five activities in one creation and call it a Smash Book.
Saying all that...they are great fun to create. You can either purchase a blank SB, or create your own (DIY binding, cheapo composition books, altered book, etc.).
I'm a firm believer in keeping an Art Journal...if Smash Books encourage people to do that, they're a 'good thing. ' And that glue/writing pen is better than sliced bread...fantastic idea.
That was a super cute video! I have one of these for house decor/furnishings. I didn't know it was called a smash book. I clip pictures of things I like or would like in my house at some point. When DH built the kitchen table and bench it was quite useful. I showed him my likes and he made it happen.
Those $1 journals you can find the in the dollar bins at Michael's are perfect for this - trust me. You can redecorate the cover if you wish, but most of them are pretty just the way they are. I prefer the spiral bound ones. If they start to get too thick you can just pull some of the pages out to keep it that size and start a new one. I use a stretchy headband - also from a dollar store - around the book as a belly band. Ooops, maybe I should have marketed that idea myself!
I've got several notebooks but with the Samsh Book the coil is covered and looks as if its made to hold some bulk unlike a notebook that'll just expand outwards & bulge and it won't fit on a shelf right. Am I making any sense? LOL
Who can resist those adorable accessories.
Maybe I'll peruse the stores for something along this idea of thinking.
A Big "THANK YOU" for everyones thoughts on this! Many of which are echoes of my own! A great gimmick and good luck to them. Being here in the UK we probably wont even see one in this country for at least a year! LOL! so for the time being I will be sticking to my pretty notebooks. I am glad I spotted it though as it has given me the idea to make more of the books that I already use and see them as a crafty project in their own right as opposed to just a pretty notebook with scraps & bits stuck in it at random! x
Let's see MS Office One note and pintrest and a scanner could be used as well

To Queen Bee..we had those books too we called them Slam book each page had a person's name and you'd comment on them you signed a number instead of your name.
Slam book..Hmmmm. You could slam your ideas keepsakes and doo dads in to a cute SLAM book add a mini pen with a double sided acid free tape dispenser on the end
SOOO CUTE!!! $39.99 pages extra Maybe Tim Holtz could endorse it $89.99!!! LOL

Those are what I've been using for years but I call them my ideas books! Diane
Well these sure do seem to be a "Hot" commodity at the moment. Maybe they'll be huge and maybe they will just fizzle out. I think the Video is awesome. And if I know me.............I think I'll get one

Oops I misspoke (a little bit). the gal at Stop and Scrap offered up a second selling around mid morning today and those appear to be available still with a later ship date.

Oh! You can get just the pen thingie (which is the part I want anyway!)! It's $2.99 here: BLACK STICK. Not worth ordering just that, so I'll wait for it to hit stores...
I bought a "scrapbag" the small ones that you carry to a crop.. This bag I use for my pocketbook. It is pretty enough. I love to doodle so I keep a Notebook in my "pocketbook" along with a set of pencils, colored micro pens and various sizes of micro blacks. My doodle pad is the same thing IMOHO as the Smash book. the only difference was it had a plain ol cover. So I went to my craft room and decorated the cover and wa-la! I now have a smash book. I never get bored in a drs waiting room, or while riding in a car. or anything else that used to be empty time. I learned also that this book dosent have to be just a book of my sketches and notes to myself.. because of this thread and the links to the you-tubes, my book and my bag have a whole new meaning. Thank you all. This is so much fun
