If you're talking about a basic card, 4.25 x 5.5, you just match the ends and fold that way so the ends meet. Otherwise, it depends on which way you want the paper to go. Fold so the paper goes the direction you want it to. Does that make sense?
I think what you are asking is do you fold so that the "bump" is on the outside or inside. I usually fold so that the bump is on the outside, but I honestly have found that it really doesn't matter much. The score seems to work either way.

Oooh I think everyone might have a different view on this! I fold so that the bump is on the inside, so that you get a lovely smooth look on the outside.

I have always been unsure how to fold a card after scoring. away from the score or towards the score? Is there a right or wrong way?
I don't think truly there is a right or wrong way. I believe the suggested method is to fold with the bump inside as the above poster mentioned. However, whatever way looks best to you is what really matters. And also, the cardstock itself may make you decide to fold it the opposite direction than you normally fold.
Ladies......The correct way to fold your cardstock after you have scored is to have the mountain on the inside.
If using the Scor-Pal, that would mean you would have the outside of the card facing you as you score it. You are creating the valley so that is the outside of your card.
If using the Score-It, you would have the inside of the card facing you as you score. You are creating the mountain so that goes on the inside of the card.
Folding by just meeting the corners is not an accurate way to fold your card. You do need the proper tools and technique to get a neat, crisp and professional fold to your card. Also always crease the fold with a bone folder not your finger or fingernail.
If you're unsure which is which, then consult the Scor-Pal site for proper folding of your card.

This is how I do it too. I believe it was Gina K that explained why this is the correct way. If you do a search and just type in score I bet you could find where she talks about it.
How to fold must be like how to parent, everyone has an opinion as to the right way. Hehe I have the Martha Stewart score board and totally love it. I got it with a coupan for $10. I know some people say they've had problems with the score tool jumping out of the correct line but I've never had that problem.
I do fold my card base with the mountain on the inside. However, if someone else is doing the opposite and they like it that way I would not want to say they are doing it "wrong."

this is how i was taught as well. honestly, what ever looks good to you works. i would like to say though, i never thought i needed a scoring tool... until i bought one. LOVE! IT! perfect folds every time!
I was told to NOT fold your paper completely in half. Fold it nearly in half. Be off by about 1/16 or less. Have the smaller side on top. This makes it easier to open .

I understand the logic, but it would drive me mental knowing it's uneven LOL

Haha me too. If my card is uneven at all I trim it. Sometimes even when I score it the dang thing is uneven and it totally drives me nuts. I guess I'm a little OCD when it comes to that. I was making valentine cards with some friends for my hubbys unit and I cut a layer a bit longer then the card by accident. Two people were helping me put those together and the one putting that layer on didn't trim it and it drove me nuts and when the card was all done I couldn't go back and trim because it had ribbon on it. Oh well I doubt those guys looked at the card that close.

It's funny that you mention this. I use the Score-it and fold with the mountain fold on the inside. However, every time I use the score-it, there is always about a 1/16th difference. The ends never meet up exactly if i fold based on how the scored line wants to naturally bend. I have to sort of work the paper to get the ends to match, which seems to be defeating the purpose of using a score tool. Am I doing something wrong, or is this suppose to happen? Anybody else use the score-it and have the same thing happen? Like the others have said, it does bug me that the ends don't line up. I have been using my ms score board instead because of the ends not lining up, but I really think the score-it gives a more professional look.
LOL...and if I keep raiding the peanut butter jar at 10:30pm on a night when I didn't work out I'll be taking up MORE space than I already am:oops:
Thanks for the laugh:-)
Hi Mindy!! I miss you and all the other SU girls! =)
This made me laugh because I think I had discussed losing weight with you before and I finally in December got into the groove and have lost 37 lbs so far so I am taking up less space and wearing some of my old work clothes and stuff, which is awesome....BUT I could totally relate to what your saying! This week has been hard!!
And to get back to topic...I also fold the mountain in to the card, but I also dont think its matters too much. I am always more concerned with my corners lining up.

I found with my Scor-it that if I hold down the paper on both sides of the center rail to center it and then score, that it scores more evenly.
Ok, here's my problem...after you fold it (I fold it as recommended with the "bump" on the inside), how do you get it to stay flat? Or to stay standing (mine always want to spread apart)?

It helps to press down along the score, either with the Scor-Pal tool, or a bone folder. You score the card, fold it in half and then kind of drag the tool along the fold to set it. If you watch the Gina K video HERE , you can see her do it right at the beginning when she makes the card base.
Her video is a great example, because her cardstock is such a nice heavy weight that without that step, the cards don't want to stay open, just like you said.
