Much to my family's delight, my sister has married her long time partner and we couldn't be happier for them. They were kind of married in a last minute situation (wanted to do it before their state overturned the new law) so we didn't get a chance to do a lot of planning or decorating or invitations, etc.
In lieu of a gift, my sister has asked me to make her Thank You cards; which I'm honored to do. Except after flipping through my thousands of stamps, I realized that ALL of my wedding themed stamps are "bride & groom" or "Mr. & Mrs." which puts a little damper on the whole lesbian wedding thank you. lol
As an additional issue, my sister and her new wife are pretty quirky folks. So I'm trying to avoid anything flowery or too cutesy.
My only saving grace is that their last name is now "Fish" so my sister would LOVE something about "Fishes". (The marquee on the day of the wedding said: Congratulations Carianne and Cyn: Best Wishes, Fishes! LOVE THAT!) Also, the color scheme for the wedding was black and white and my sister wore these fabulous shoes that had an adorable little white bow on them. I would like to incorporate all of these things but I swear, I am coming up blank!
I have looked at Taylor Expression's new stamp with the two fishes kissing, which I ADORE! But, my budget is extremely tight and the cost of the stamp combined with shipping (not to mention the time it would take to get here, etc) is making me resistant to ordering. Is there a cheaper, digital stamp out there similar to the kissing fishes?
Also, any other ideas out there for same sex wedding ANYTHING (maybe I could take some ideas from other same sex wedding favors, invites, etc). Thanks for your help!!!

I did see those cute cards with the ornament punches but I don't have those. I don't have any punches, really - just Nesties, embossing folders and the CB (for die cutting, anyway).

Don't know but are there any CB dies with fishes? Just a thought. How many thank yous are you making---cuz I could punch for you and I am sure others would help too!
mama2oliviamae.....Couldn't you just take a fish stamp and put them facing each other closely? Just reverse the one. Seems simple enough to me to do rather than trying to get a specific stamp you may never have another use for.
I'd put them in the same fish bowl with maybe wedding things in the background or behind the fish bowl.
OK with what you have - you can use your Mr & Mrs and just ink up the Mrs & Mrs - a stampamajig would be a great help in lining this up if you don't have one (and easily reuseable).
If you already have a fish stamp they can be side by side with a bit of masking. Masking really isn't that difficult once you have a play with it.
Another thought - if you can find a basic clip art image you like on the internet as a freebie you can cut it out with a craft knife and use it as a stencil.
And maybe make a play on their name and create a scene with Fish in a tank - "Now we're official...tank you from the Fishes"
Lastly - here is a stamp set that may be more versatile of give you ideas with elements you already have - http://www.cleardollarstamps.com/pro...256.17&cat=170 (I saw a puffer fish made with hearts and circle punches and the swiss dots cuttlebug folder but can't find it now)
How fast do you need them? I have a fish Cuttlebug die (they look like the Goldfish cracker fish) that I would be happy to lend you. I could have it in the mail tomorrow if you PM me your address.
TY to everyone for the lovely and creative ideas! I LOVE THIS digi stamp!! I've never gone digital before but man, oh man...I think now is the time. lol
I'm going to start playing tonight and will post what I come up with. TY again for the help and keep 'em coming!

There are some very beautiful black and white cards in the gallery. I was looking at different cuttlebug ideas and saw some I think you'd like. Do a search, there are some amazing cards. I know your sister doesn't want cutesy but these are just elegant.
I wanted to add that I've asked the designer of that digital stamp to alter the wording of the sentiment to make it more appropriate for this use. I hope she will and I can buy and get started tonight.
PS - Thanks to all for the well wishes on my sister and my new sister in law! :-)

Oh Lord! lol I think I have to forward this thread to my (non crafty) sister. She will crack up at all the puns. lol
Oh man - I just realized - I have the SU! Very Punny set with "Best Fishes"...hmm...makes me think about how I can work that!
Anyway, thanks again for the wishes! It's nice to see after the drama my sister went though just before the wedding (not to mention the issues surrounding their wedding to begin with). Two days before the wedding, the caterer pulled out when she found out this was a same sex wedding and refused to provide them with the services in the contract. (sigh) They got their money back but it was still difficult to see. So thanks!

I have loads of friends that are GLBT - I love them all and would never want any of them out of my life! I don't particularly understand the anti-GLBT from some. I guess its because I do believe sexuality is NOT a choice but how we are made.
Send your Fish Wives (oh there's another one! but that really isn't a compliment normally!) all the best fishes for their life together from me!

That really stinks. How people live their lives really has nothing to do with us. Heck, I'd love two husbands as long as I got to choose them, lol! Discrimination sucks! And forgot to say, Congratulations to the happy couple! I love the digital fishes kissing but make sure you put an eye lash on the other fish too.
Congrats to your Sister and her Partner! I'm sure they're going to love your cards! Be sure to post back here when they're done, Inquiring minds want to see it! ;)

I like the idea of the SU Very Punny set since you already have it. The cards could be a simple black & white theme with maybe turquoise base on the front to simulate water? You could stamp or write "THANKS FOR THE" above the image and words best fishes. And inside you could have "And thanks for the awesome gift, too!"
Please pass along a great big Congrats and Best Wishes to your sister and new SIL! Thats so awesome! Its always wonderful to add someone special to the family, isnt it?
first of all- CONGRATS to your sister and her wife!
i hope you will call out the caterer for what she did.... what a jerk! I'm sure I would never want to use a caterer like that- what, does she think only heterosexuals want food at their wedding?!
As for people that say they 'dont believe in Gay Marriage'... less than ten years ago interracial marriage was made legal in all 50 of the United States, do they 'believe' in that?
Plenty of people choose not to get married, regardless of their sexual orientation.... and every one should be legally allowed to marry some one they love if they so desire.
I think you've already gotten most of the good ideas for cards LOL.... so I don't have anything else to add.... just Congratulations!
I think it's wonderful that you are doing that and that you are so supportive. When I married my wife we had some family that were wonderful but most of them just ignored that we got married at all. I like the inking the Mrs. side and using the SAMJ. I also think just standard Thank You cards would be fine.
They are lucky to have you!! You're awesome.

Yeah, the caterer issue was CRAZY and my sister took to Facebook to publicily "denounce" this company and the woman who runs it that backed out. Very frustrating but they ordered pizza for the whole wedding and called it a day. lol (Which was much more my sister & sister in law's pace - not a fancy sit down.) Pretty much everyone in our family has embraced this union but there was ONE family member in our family who actually gave them a wedding card that said "To the bride & groom...". My sister was pretty mad about it and confronted them after the wedding. They said it was a honest mistake (seriously?) but we pretty much blew it off to ignorance anyway.
I haven't had time to sit down with any stamps but DH is taking DD out this afternoon and evening so that's my big plan for today! The digi stamp designer never got back to me on my request so I guess she isn't interested in the business. Oh well, I'll make due with what I've got!
Thanks again for all the ideas, encouragement and support for my sister and her new wife. I know she would be so proud to read all of the kind comments!

Sophia - I don't work with digi stamps but if you start another thread explaining your dilemma maybe someone that works with digi stamps can work through it with you. I think you would be able to crop off the sentiment and maybe even do your own on Publisher but I haven't tried. That is if you really want that image!!! Good luck with your creative processes - I'm off to shop before I get snowed in again!
