Default Roses In winter question

Okay, I feel so silly even asking this question. I finally got the RIW set, but what order do I layer these? I am guessing the largest gets stamped first, but then do I use both of the other layers, or just one at a time? Also I think that I would want to use lighter on the bottom and go darker as I go up? Hope this makes sense, and i really hope that someone can help me. I really love the cards I have seen with this set, just wish I could figure it out.

Yup! Lighter at the bottom, darker as you go up. For example, try using Barely Banana, Summer Sun and More Mustard. Or Cameo Coral, Rose Red and Bravo Burgungy. Here's a recent card I made with that set: http://seitlerstamps.blogspot.com/2006/04/masking

Yup, I use lighter on the bottom usually too~! I have TONS in my gallery cause I just used this set for a display. If I use the same ink color I will stamp off twice for the large flower, once for the med flower and not at all for the small one. Or I'll use two different shades, like so saffron for the first two layers and then more mustard for the center.

Oh, yeah! I forgot to mention that! I do that a lot with the leaf pieces. Stamp off once in Old Olive for the bottom piece and then stamp in full strengh for the "highlight." I like to demostrate this set at workshops and talk about how you can do that. Helpful little tip... ;)

I don't think the order you do it in matters, but I do what the above posters said and stamp the lightest color for the biggest image, medium color for the med. image and darkest for the smallest image. I also do quite a bit of stamping off for this set, for instance I just recently used pale plumb for the lightest color, perfect plum stamped off for the med, and then perfect plum full strength for the darkest.

This is such a great set, it makes it easy to make wow cards, even though your just using basic techniques.

oh, and a lovely look is to stamp it and slightly turn the stamp back and forth a bit "squishing" it on the paper. Gives a bit of a softer look to the rose. Lovely effect.

I was "afraid" of the roses until I had the pleasure of making Emily's fabulous card at the Austin gathering. Her directions were super easy and it was a beautiful card. The set is near the top of my wish list for me... Thanks Emily!!!

Another tip is to turn each stamp about a 1/4 turn each time so it looks random ... I agree with the "smooshing" technique as well. I love this set ... so, so pretty and dramatic!

Ok.......so Emily I looked at your gallery and saw some of the ones you did just recently. I think I get it but did you "smoosh" the second one also or just the first one?

All of the above, but I'd like to add that when I'm using the 3-color method, I stamp each color/size TWICE, turning a quarter turn each time. Make it look a bit fuller and create 6 shades of color.

I'm really NOT a flower person, but I love this set - my customers say I need a 12-step program for my addiction to RIW.

Here is my most recent favorite RIW card - done all with Eggplant Envy with a touch of Dazzling Diamonds!

Ant this one was for the AC Regionals swap

Using the Misting technique

Or if you like YELLOW!

How about an Explosion Card?

Open Explosion and Closed Explosion

Ok, I'll stop now

And don't forget about making sculpted roses with this set! They're beautiful and fairly easy to make.
Here's an example of one I made. There are also some lovely ones in Carol Richardson's gallery.

How do you make the sculpted roses? Do you stamp each layer and cut them out and put them together?

I looked and I could find a post about how to make those roses. I'd think a little water might be involved? I dunno...

But I thought of another technique that is great with this set: Rock and Roll! Here's a post I made about it: http://seitlerstamps.blogspot.com/20...ck-n-roll.html. I just love that card. I'm hoarding it at the moment... ;)

Here are the directions for making the roses:
I used four layers for each rose. I stamped two large and two of the medium and cut them out. I cut one of the medium images smaller than the other, cutting it so that part of it was free from the rest. (It looks sort of like a pinwheel.) That makes it look more realistic when you shape them. You can rub the edges with a darker ink pad before you assemble it. I hold each layer of the rose image in my left hand and, with my right thumb and forefinger, I bend and mold the edges, then I assemble the four layers of the rose (use any adhesive you like, but I find that mini glue dots work well), and glue some small beads in the center using CE. It's really quite a quick process...the rose is done in minutes. If you have any questions, PM me. Have fun!
I like to use the leaves from the Lovely Leaves rather than the ones from Roses in Winter. I think they look more like rose leaves
