One thing my friend and I used was the knitted laundry bags. That you stick the spool in the and pull the ribbon thru the holes. OR get two hooks from Home Depot or someplace and use a wooden dowel.
Go to the gallery and key "ribbon storage" in to the search field. It will bring up some different ideas. I had saved one that "jmourat" had posted that I thought looked interesting. You may find something that really works for you!
I'll tell you how I store my ribbon. I bought a couple cute photo storage boxes at HL when they were 1/2 off (about $2 each), I used the photo dividers that came in it, and wrapped my ribbon around each one... putting coordinating colors on the same card. I have no more spools, and all of my ribbon fits into two boxes. It is very easy to take along with me for crops too!
I also just purchased the Photo Storage boxes with dowels to go through the middle. Put large eyelets along the long side (I haven't figured out how to attach the dowel in the middle) slide your ribbons on the dowel and they hang out the eyelets.
I'll be making a few extra but I won't have time until after convention.

To attach the dowel, you could cut some cardboard or chipboard the size of the end of the box.....a few of them stuck together do that it is about " think.Punch a hole the size of the dowel - or drill the hole if you have already glued together. Make two the same. Slip the two cardboard things onto the dowel - place in box and push the cardboard outward to the box. If you made it think enough, the dowel should stay in place. As you need to add or remove a spool, yo can take the whole contraption out.
StacyBeth, I really like your idea as my spools always get mixed up even when I use a cheap plastic storage box with holes or openings that you can pull ribbons through. It doesn't help the mess of the spools. My question is, do you have problems with the crease/folds of the ribbons that you wrap around the paper/cardboard part? I would love to do this but not sure about the creases it may cause. Please share your input. Thanks!

thank you so much for all the great ideas! when i went to the gallery i found one that "scrampaddict" had and it was just what i was looking for! i'm also going to use the photo box idea as well. these were great suggestions. my husband is on his way to home depot for me right now!
My demo just posted a pic of her idea - she uses sections of plastic gutters - the kind you have on your house! Her name is StampinMelis, you can find it under her gallery - it's very cool!
I store them on a pants holder hanger. You can find them at Target. They have four bars that swing out so that you can hang work pants on them. They are great for storing wheels too!

There was a thread going on about them months ago. They are sold on Ebay and are VERY inexpensive. I don't think they have any for sale right now, I know they hand make them. Their ebay seller name is craftsolutions. I think for the organizer it was 30ish dollars and they ship from Canada. I love it!
