Default Ribbon Challenged, Please Help

Everyday I look at the gallery and see beautiful ribbon on everyone's cards and it looks good. When I try to add it to my card it just looks out of place or in the way. If you look in my gallery you find little ribbon and I would like to change that. I have yards of it and it makes me sad to see it just sit there looking pretty. Can anyone tell how to over come this problem? I know if anyone can help me you ladies can.
Thanks
AbbysGrammy

I took a look at your gallery....nice! I love the diner card! Anyway, it seems that many of your cards have a lot going on with the picture, like the diner card, and I don't think it needs ribbon. You seem to have a pretty good eye to me.

What I do many times is use the ribbon almost like a slim panel. I sometimes tie a bow, but many times it is a smaller knot just to add texture.

I have more trouble not adding ribbon and other 'stuff'!

just keep trying is about all i can suggest.

maybe you could try looking in the gallery with ribbon in the search and draw some inspiration from it. maybe after you see it used over and over and over it will be easier to notice when you could use it for a certain card or project.

i looked in your gallery and love the way you have used it... i think everyone has their own favorites when it comes to embellishments.

i am just the opposite... i can't seem to make a card WITHOUT ribbon!

i call myself the ribbon HO! i just LOVE the stuff!

I agree with previous posters--a lot of your cards have such big, beautiful images that adding a ribbon just wouldn't work!

But if you want to start using ribbon, maybe start by looking at some sketch challenges that use ribbon. I'm not sure if SCS sketch challenges use a lot of ribbon, but a lot of mojo monday sketches do. That site is blocked for me at work, but I think if you google "mojo monday verve" it should come up! Even if you didn't use the sketch exactly, it would at least give you a starting point of the different ways to use/place the ribbon.

When I first started using ribbon, I tied it around the card fold quite a bit. It was easy to do and adds that little extra something.

As far as Ribbon Challenged remember:
You can knot it.
Layer it, tie it, bow it, add charms, cut into or slot the layers to thread it through it, you can make a leaf for a prima flower with it underneight it.
Ribbon is fun and sometimes the last element on a page so I do get caught up trying to finish the last 10% of my work too.

I too love ribbon, but tend to hoard. Also, most of the cards i make need to be masculine. Anyway, here are two from my gallery that I really like the way in which I used ribbon:

Great question and I plan to come back and check out the other links posted here.

A whole host of ideas on this thread here - Forums at Splitcoaststampers
TLC163 was to use stacked ribbons, so you could check out that gallery for inspiration: Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

Here's a tutorial I found on how to do a tailored bow... (I'm sure it's old news to most, but not to me!). I love this bow!

Your gallery is beautiful! I am ribbon challenged, too. I get a lot of inspiration from Sharon of No Time to Stamp. She is fabulous with ribbon.

I love using ribbon!! I think I have ribbon on every card I've made. There's a couple ways to do it.
If you want a knot (either to keep that way or to put a brad or something over), punch a hole where you want the knot to be. then, thread the ribbon through the back through the hole. Pull the ribbon as long as you want the ribbon to hang on one side, then take the other (long) end, and wrap it completly around the card, then push it up through the back of the hole again. take the ends, which should now both be in the front, and put one above the ribbon that is flat against, and one end below it. then, tie the two ends together. (I think that's right. I hope my directions turned out like I meant them.)
The other option is to cut the ribbon just a little longer than the card. Then, put some photo tape (or adhesive of your choice) on the back, stick the ribbon on the card, then fold the ends over onto the back of the card. You can also layer multiple strips of ribbon that way. I've done three one time. (I will warn you it may be a little hard to get straight at first.)

Oh my gosh, I just looked at your gallery - 3 times - your cards are beautiful! Your card SC185 New Old Friend is so beautiful. I also had to favorite Winter Wishes. Your cards seem to tell little stories - or maybe they just let me escape into the scene and live little stories.

Anyway, I am not real good with ribbon either but really like to look of ribbon on cards.

So I am thinking that maybe I can come to your house and you can teach me how to make little story cards as beautiful as yours and I will help you figure out the ribbon thing. LOL
