I was also wondering if you needed the wheel guide for the jumbo wheel. I have several of the jumbo wheels on my wish list but I stink at using the regular sized ones. I am thinking about buying the guide but only if I really need it to get a good line with the jumbo wheels.
I love my wheels - both sizes. I feel you need the guide more for the small one if you really want straight lines. I do a lot of those on angles. My jumbo wheel is fabulous for scrapbook pages and along the bottom of cardstock etc.
I cannot imagine trying to make them look nice by only running them over an ink pad. For me - that would just not work.
Cartridges are worth it b/c you can refill them as easily as an ink pad. Once and done purchase as long as you have the refill.
I can't picture unmounting them - to me - wouldn't that mean only stampin in strips? Sounds weird but I guess it would work - but it sounds like if you were doing a whole page it would take a lot longer.

It looks just fine when you run it over the ink pad...why wouldn't it?? This way, I can use the inks I have and don't have to spend $$ on cartridges. It isn't any different than stamping a stamp on the ink pad.
As for unmounting, all you'd have to do is have a long block and then stamp once...you wouldn't have to do it multiple times unless you are using it for a large background.
I don't use my wheels like that...I use them for focal images (mainly) or down/across one side of the card...not to cover the entire background.

I think that I have decided that I should sell/trade my few standard wheels and the handles and ink and get some Jumbos! I know for sure that I would use the 2 that go with Simply Said and after seeing the example that blueflower posted using the Poinsetta wheel I *HAVE* to have it, thanks! ;)

I don't have the wheel guide even though I really do need it for my standard wheels. I can't keep the standards straight to save my lifel. But for jumbo wheels, I don't think it's needed. The jumbo wheels are soooo much wider, it just seems that it's easier to roll a straight line.
Oh, I also wanted to say that I only have one cartridge. I got it when I got my first wheel, but I don't use it much. I normally just use my ink pads too. I think it's such a waste to buy cartridges when you could be buying an ink pad for the same price.

Guess it all depends on what you use it for! I tried today - and if I was rolling a background page, using the ink pad - does not work. Ink faded before I got across the page! I even reinked the pad and tried again - same yucky results. So for me, when rolling a page - cartridges.
Now when I tried the ink pad technique for a small strip - card sized. It worked fine.
But I do prefer the cartridges - one less step for me, b/c the ink is always there.
As for unmounting - well, I won't be doing that either - I get how it works but b/c I use wheels for backgrounds and pages this would again take up way too much of my time.
Another use for wheels and a reason for (Me to have) cartridges - rolling over our wrapping paper, boxes and tags even.
Thanks for your responses. I think I will definitely get the jumbo wheel and a couple of big wheels. I'll hold off on the guide for now and see if I too find it easier to use and can avoid the cost of the guide allowing for more wheels. I guess I will buy one cartridge and see for myself if it is much easier than the pads but I am thinking by all of your great responses that I will once again be saving a lot of money by not buying the additional cartridges. You guys are truly helpful and awesome..thanks!
Wrapping paper with the jumbo wheels is awesome. Going to try using the snowflake for Holiday cards. I use the small wheels forborders on cards and notecards..find the ink cartridges to be easier and more consistent than using the ink pads. I don't use the small wheels as much as I thought i would.
I don't have any jumbo wheels...before this catalog, there weren't any I couldn't live without...well except that farmer one...
Anyway, I love the new ones, so it's only a matter of time.
I use the wheel guide because I can't draw a straight line, much less stamp one! LOL! I ran it around tissue paper today to put in a gift bag...makes it so classy and expensive looking!
I really think the inkers are worth it...I can see using your stamp pad for small projects, but I like the convenience and the even coloring using the ink cartridges.

I like and use both sizes. My latest "fun" with them is with the new jumbo background wheels (dry brush, etc). I do use the wheel guide regularly and the ink cartridges over the ink pads because I use them just as much for scrapbooking.
