I see alot of references to this tool. And I've looked at them at Michael's but don't know which one to get and all of the uses. I'd like to plan on buying one the next time they have a 50% coupon and if it is a have to have for an aspiring stamper.
I just bought a 250 Xyron machine 2 weeks ago. I don't think it's a must have for a stamper. I've been stamping happily for two years without one, but it might be more of a must have for a scrapper. I haven't scrapped for a while. I think the 250 would be a good one to try out if you didn't want to spend a whole lot of money (I paid 14.99 at Walmart. It's about 19.99 at Michael's without the coupon), just to see if you even like it. I agree about waiting for a 50% off coupon if you will be buying in the 500 or 900 series.
Now having said all that I do feel that I will get good use out of my 250 now that I have it. My mono just isn't sticking like it used to and with the designs I'm making lately I need things to stick in place.
Take care, Brenda
PS: Xyron REFILLS are on sale for 40% off at Michael's this week
I got the same one. I really like it. The only thing I would have to say is keep it away from your kids if you have any, I cam home last night to two feet of backing with nothing on it. That means my kids were cranking the handle for no reason.
I didn't think I would care for the Xyron system that much when I saw it. But then while I was browsing through the store at Christmas I decided to buy one for someone else and picked on the the small "X" shaped one up for me as well. I love it! I use more than I thought I would. It works great for paper piecing parts and ribbon and any other small pieces that are sometimes hard to get adhesive on. And that one is only about $6-7. I also asked my husband for the larger 500 series one at Christmas and honestly haven't used it yet.
I purchased a Xyron 250 before the holidays because I was working with a small tag book, ie layering papers and small pictures and quotes and journaling tags. That machine was indispensable!! Because I was using small items, I planned ahead and was able to line up and feed several small items side by side.
I have since fed through small scraps of cardstock and then used my paper piecing punch. They are so much easier to handle than trying to put the mono adhesive.
I use the little X shaped one for making stickers. I love it. I have made add ons to letters.(before I started making my cards I would take the pictures of the kids and run it through there and stick them on the paper after I had finished it.
I have also used it crafting. When I run ribbon through it I do several at a time so that way when I stick them they won't wiggle around and look all funny they stay straight where I stick them.(using my adhesive tape would get me, the table and whatever else I am near.) Using the Xyron I get the ribbon cleanly backed with out making everything else sticky.
The X xyron machine is FANTASTIC!!! I love it for ribbons and tiny pieces of cardstock. It's cheap, so I would start out with that and see how you like it.
I recently got the 500 size and have found it very useful when I have been using water color or foxy oxy type techniques. The paper sometimes curls and the Xyron really helps hold it down flat when I mount the sheet to a card.
