Default Question for the experts!

Some of you folks are so great at embellishing your cards. I think that is what makes them pop! I am challenged embellished! Does anyone have any tips, tricks or suggestions? Do you plan your card around your embellishment? I am great at putting together an idea, stamping and etc but I struggle with the finishing touches. Any counsel you can give............

I'm not so good at embellishing either, but I'm working on it. My first try will usually involve ribbon, I love how ribbon adds depth. I will also use lots of background stamps and tearing to help add dimension. Another item I use a lot are brads and eyelets -- either simply at the top or in the corners or grouped in three along an adge. Little tags are another great addition.

If you like one of the ideas above, you might do a search in the gallery to see examples... *seeing* other ideas is what helps me.

It's amazing what a little touch of glitter can do!
The 2-way glue pen and Dazzling Diamonds glitter are a very economical addition to your collection of supplies.

Usually I CASE something for inspiration. Then, after I have my basic design figured out I lay it out (unglued) and start messing with it. I take out my ribbon, eyelets, etc and hold things up or move things around until something catches my eye. I look for spots that are flat or boring and try to beef them up (versamarked stamped image, background stamp, eyelet grouping, ribbon, crimper, tag.) I also love using Dimensionals rather than glue on some part of the card. HTH

I am fortunate to have a neighbor with a very good eye. I will sometimes run to her and say "What does this need?" I find that very helpful.

Another thing you may try is to just walk away from it for a while. The next day something may just hit you and you're off.

Do a search in the gallery for Hodgepodge Hardware. I found these embellishments intimidating when I first looked at them, but when I tried, it was soooo easy. I don't think I've posted anything with hardware, but I was inspired by some in the gallery to try it. I have since given all the ones I made away before I could upload them!

Default two-way glue pen, dd.....

Two-way glue pen, dazzling diamonds, dimensionals, beads, brads of all shapes, sizes and colors, eyelets, ribbon, cord, embossing words rather than just stamping them! You name it, I try it! Antiqueing, crumpling, tearing, folding, layering, distressing, punched out flowers, hearts and anything else punched also help give dimension to your card.

Enjoy!

Sometimes I will build a card around an embellishment. I might want to use some gingham ribbon, or one of those swirly clip things that I got at Target. I'll take the color of the embellishment, then go to the SU color wheel for other colors to match. Sometimes that's enough, sometimes I'll page through the catty or check the gallery for a workable design. HTH.

Keep stamping. I just ran across some cards I had made 4 years ago, and saw that my stamping have improved.
