Question...Do you ever have a hard time parting with your cards?
My friend saw a card I made last night and wanted it for a b-day party her son was going to and I was like ohhh no way. I actually made it planning on giving it to her own son...but I am finding it a little hard to part with my creations.
Anyone else feel like that? Does that feeling go away? Do you keep most of your cards?
Yes. They are my babies. I spent time creating them. I am getting better. If I make a card I especially like, I make several so I can send some and still have my little stash.
So far I have only been giving them to people who either do this as a hobby and realize the work that goes into it or family...I actually told my mother if she is going to throw it out to give it back to me when she was done with it...she said why would I throw it out I am keeping it...I was like wheewwwww at least I know it isn't getting dumped in the trash.
It is very hard for me to part with my cards or scrapbook pages that I create. Last year's Christmas cards are sitting along with this year's Christmas cards in a drawer. I can't seem to want to part with them. I've invested so much money in ink, paper, stamps and embellishments and I find myself not wanting to create cards because I won't give them away:???:
I was like that when I started but now I am taking scans/pictures of all my stuff I don't mind giving them away. Though I do have to confess to setting my MIL's mother's day card up on my craft table to look at for a couple of days before I sent it!
I just like making them. I don't give them away because I never send greeting cards. My sister thinks I am bizarre for making cards when I never send them, but I just like doing it.
I used to scrapbook, but got tired of it because I don't enjoy organizing photos. I love card making because it is quick and creative and totally non-stressful.
I am going to try to start sending cards, though, or I am afraid they will fill up my house.
When I first started 10 years ago I used to hate to part with them. I was asked to make cards so much, I started my own business selling them. I don't have a hard time now because I am so busy all the time keeping up with my customers needs and special orders. I am not making a fortune but it is paying for this addiction! LOL!
Posting them in my gallery allows me to reproduce if I want to.

I have a hard time parting with my cards but I found it helps if I make two of the same card and put one in my box and send the other to whoever it was made for!

Most of my cards tend to be personalized or made with a certain person in mind, so that makes it a lot easier to send, also that system usually makes it easier to think of ideas based on favorite colors, hobbies, etc. Plus the recipients enjoy them a lot more!!

Yep! My very favorite cards are given to family members who live in this house....and when they are not looking a few weeks later they get slipped into my drawer of keepers, hee hee hee. Do you think I'm awful?
It is really funny how everyone is so much alike with their precious cards. Whenever I give cards to my husband or children, I always take them back and put them up in my craft room. Since I started a gallery here, I don't hord my cards as much. On the other hand, I love sending them out and hopefully giving the recipient a smile for the day.
I am the same way.. I have had this a couple times where someone wanted the card... I have a hard time letting them go. For this reason I always try to make 2 of each card so that I can give one away.
I usually make one-of-a-kind cards for people, so it is hard to part with some of them. There have been certain cards that I will send only to my mom or my favorite cousin, because I know they will never throw them away! LOL
I tend to make my cards for a specific person in mind. That way if I am giving it to a kid or a family member who just don't really care, I don't spend a ton of time or add a lot of embellishments to it. But, it is really more about me having fun. Stamping is my stress relief. Just wish I had more time...
I generally make a card for a specific person/purpose. With that in mind, the card is already destined to not join my stash and will go to its intended recipient.
I was just telling someone this the other day! I make cards specifically for people I have in mind, then if I really like the way they turn out I don't want to part with them!! And the ones that don't turn out well never get sent because they're "below par" in my estimation! So I've decided to make duplicates of the ones I really like!
Sometimes it can be very painful! LOL! I think it comes from my Scrapbooking roots. However, with the advent of my blog, I find myself more willing to part with cards because I know I can still see them
I'm fortunate to work around people who don't necessarily craft but they enjoy what I do. Sometimes the cards I give them stay displayed in their cubicles a long time after their birthday has passed because they consider them art. I have to admit, I enjoy making each one and how they turn out but once they join the pile to give away, they are out of sight, out of mind and I'm on to the next creation. When I look through them again later, it's like seeing them for the first time. Besides, the more I make and give away the more I can make to replace them.
I thought I was the only one! I actually don't have a problem if I make a card for a specific person, but if I make it at a class I want to keep it. I guess I really don't need a shrink. Or maybe I do.
I'm so glad I am not alone in my oddness! I usually end up making two, maybe in different colors, if I am very fond of the design and keeping one. I do take photos in case I give them both away, though.
I have a very hard time giving them away. It takes two or three hours to make something special (labor pains). When I "give birth" I don't want to give up my creation for adoption.

Make at least two of each. It also gets easier as your "collection" grows! But I do have some friends who won't part with the samples they make with me in class.
I have been this way for years, I think from the very start of cardmaking.
I usually make 4, one to give, one to give each of my daughters as I keep them in card "stock" for them to give, and then one I keep. Works for me!
But I have often wondered if others do this and this thread shows it...funny!
TFS!
I find it easier when someone will give me $5-7 in exchange for a special one, but I do have some that may never leave, like the very first Outlines card, Joann helped me make. She's a sweet lady who had a LSS that went out of business:( . She is probably the main reason for my Outlines addiction.
I tend to hoard as well - and ironically enough I go searching for my "less loved" ones to give away. UNLESS I know the person will truly appreciate it. My boss loves my cards and I have no problem giving him my good ones (he has a "gallery" in his cube at work!) But there are other people that just look at it and say "that's nice" and put it away (where I'm sure it ends up in the garbage) so those people get my lesser loved cards. I'm trying to be better about not hoarding them.
I love giving my cards away. I just take a picture of them to put in my file and I'm happy-so is the person that gets the card!
Me too. I don't have a "stash" of generic cards at this point, so every card I make is specifically made for the recipient. I take a pic and post it here, and then off it goes. I do admit that in the beginning I had a hard time with this--I wondered if the recipient was going to appreciate them or just toss them. Now I don't care. My joy comes out of creating the card
All of my cards are given away, usually to charitable organizations or used in the card ministry at church. A couple of years ago I sent 200 cards to a friend's church in Charleston to use anyway they wanted. Now I just take a picture and write the recipe down. I wish I had photos of the cards I made 10-15 years ago when I first started stamping, wonder if I've gotten any better?

Like many people above said, I have an easier time giving my handmade cards to people who will appreciate it. It does hurt to give a card to someone and have them glance at it and move on. I guess I need the "ooh" and "aah" factors!
