I have the Spellbinder's Platinum that takes the larger plates, but wondered if the platform base plates (the white ones) are the same thickness? The reason I ask is I thought about getting the one that goes with the Spellbinder's 6, because it would be easier to to lift when I had applications where I don't use it. I already use the smaller clear plates, except with a few extra large dies. It makes sense they'd be the same size, but I don't want to assume, because to get the base plate, you have to buy the whole[plate set together, and it's not cheap.
I thought about trying to experiment with the base plate from my cutttlebug and adding extra different plates to see if I can get the right thickness with it, as it is not as thick.
Just thought I'd ask in case anyone knew offhand.
The set of plates that go with the Platinum 6 give you sandwich instructions for all types of jobs. You would need to follow those instructions. The various platforms are different thicknesses than the older type, and are a bit longer. Cutting plates are the same, but also have a little more length.
The platform set is a bit pricey, but well worth it for the ease of creating the sandwiches. I only have to create my own sandwiches for some overly thick 3D embossing folders.
I'm not sure about using the cuttlebug plates. While you may be able to stack up something that has a similar thickness, the materials are different and would respond differently in the Platinum machines.

I'm not sure the OP was asking about the "new" Universal Plate system, I think it was the original plates.
BUT I am using a smaller bigshot platform/plate (6x9ish) set in my Switch, which comes with the larger ( approx 9x12"? so the thickness of the white platform is the same thickness. I believe the spellbinders would be as well. there is some industry standard, so that dies are compatible across systems
like their own Universal Plate System|P6 Accessory Bundle - Spellbinders Paper Arts
also to note in my switch I have bigshot platforms, but my clear plates are from SU
the only thing you need to make sure is that they will fit through the hole and if you're going smaller, it will
and lifting that huge 9x12 platform/plate set is one reason that I got the smaller set to go thru my switch
Thank you all for your responses and for the links and info you shared also. I went ahead and ordered the set, as I don't think I have the patience to fool with all the trial and error.
Oops, forgot to mention. I had signed up for their site the other day, and they had emailed me a new user coupon code, so I was able to save eight dollars and change on the order, so that almost covered the shipping.
Thanks again for the help! Your responses helped me a lot!
