Please help need a glue for the spine of my book

Hi, Ladies:p
Is there a glue or adhesive for the spine of a book. I have book that I just love it fell off the counter and the hard cover came off the spine. I tried glueing it - it did not work. What can I use? I was thinking of Red Line Tape that they sell in Michaels. Please help.

As a librarian, when I repaired spines I just used Elmer's and then held the book together for several days with rubber bands. It worked quite well.

Another librarian vote for Elmers! It's not quite archivally perfect, but it will last a long time. If you glue between pages (from a broken spine), place folded wax paper (fold in) in the center of the glued pages, so they don't glue together. Rubber band the book tightly so that the rubber bands look like a tic-tac-toe board, using 4 bands. Then leave it for at least two days.

Works like a charm!

PVA glue is a book binding glue. Works very well. Can be found at scrapbook stores as well as online. Dries quickly and has a remarkable hold.

I am a school librarian, and some books are are more loved than others! I use elmers glue too (and don't touch it for a couple days).

PVA glue is archival and works great!

Another librarian vote for Elmer's glue, just put a couple of elastic bands around it after gluing, remove in a day.
