I look at tons of different stamping and scrapbooking magazines, but there are only a few that I buy regularly. Most just have way too much advertising and not enough good stuff.
If you were to define your perfect stampin' magazine, what would it include?? And what would it not include??
You have a great question when it comes to that issue. I only like "Paper Crafts" because they feature a lot of "Stampin Up" products. One thing I dislike though about the magazine is that it tends to show projects that tend to be a bit "complicated" or too "time consuming". I want a"user friendly" publications that has "easy to make" projects. I have started working on projects from Paper Crafts and halfway get discouraged because is too time consuming. Well, that is my opinion on this matter.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Paper crafts would be THE perfect magazine for me if their projects were ten minutes and under.
That said, the Stampers Sampler Take Ten comes very close to perfection for me.
Are there any other things that just projects you'd like to see?
I think my perfect mag would have several projects and have projects in different difficulty levels. A few different techniques illustrated, maybe have a featured stamper/demo with a Q&A about stamping habits/methods, running their business, etc., a featured products page that shows a few new products or new uses for old products.
I agree that Paper Crafts is awesome (love all the SU! stuff used) ... however, I am a busy mom of 2 (and one on the way!) and want projects that are relatively fast! (And maybe if I could tear myself away from this site ... I would have more time to stamp!)
I like some aspects of The Rubber Stamper (Cards from Readers, the monthly article that showcases a reader's stamping space, new techniques) ... but sometimes I find that they are a bit to "artsy" for my taste. I did not renew my subscription this year.
I also love the Stamp It! issues that come out ... probably because it is published by the same company as Paper Crafts.
I love to get stuff in the mail ... but I find so much awesome inspiration here that I don't feel bad that it isn't coming in my mailbox! (Although, I am always excited to get my monthly Stampin' Success magazine from SU!)
I agree with the previous posts, I love paper crafts but they are sometime complicated, I love take ten also b/c there are so many great cards but I wish it told how to make the cards or had better recipes for the items used or how it is made...I really like stamp it though, the others are to artsy or complicated for me to really get into

If you're not a demo, you should be! The Stampin' Success magazine has almost all of this! Now, if only it were a little bigger every month with lots more samples....
Have you seen Take Ten? It also only comes out a couple times a year, I think next issue is March. It is difficult to find. Kinda expensive but has great 10 minute cards.

I like a lot of those magazines too, but what I'm really looking for is if we were to have a magazine created to our specifications, what would you like to see in it?
There is a new mag called PaperCraft inspirations. They are out of Australia I think. They have lots of quick makes, techniques, interviews, plus there is usually something with the mag to use (i.e. stencial, stickers, paper, etc) It is a bit pricey in Edmonton $11.50 canadian but I've bought all three issues and Chapters just called to say the next one is in! I'll be there on my way to school to pick up my son on this - 26 celsius day. I'm not making a special trip when it's this cold no matter what! lol Tanya

I guess I'll be on the look out for this magazine at my local craft stores. I'm curious if Australian stamping supplies and techniques are that much different from ours. I kind of doubt it but you know what they say about curiosity...
....I would want some of the cards in Take 10.....
...some of the components in Rubber Stamper...I always get alot of great info from them....including info on new products....I also like showcasing a stamp room...I can always use new ideas....
...I don't find much in RSM that I like anymore as it has changed a great deal...
So, how about combining Rubber Stamper, Paper Crafts, and Take 10 ?

I've also received a few issues of Paper Crafts Inspirations (my SIL gave them to me for Christmas). I'm not all that crazy about them. They are more artsy and the writing style is a bit different. Also, I like seeing stamps from SU in the catalogs and of course, they don't have any.
Just my personal opinion. I've seen them in stamp stores, so you might want to check them out for yourself.

I like Paper Crafts and of course Stampin' Up!'s Demo magazine. I think the perfect magazine for me would be a combination of a technique or two, quick and easy card section, gift ideas and other projects, articles about new trends or products, and include some rubber stamping ideas for scrapbooks. Maybe a highlight of someone in the stamping business would be nice also.
I'm not a demo, so I'm not privy to the publication that SU puts out, but I am surprised that SU doesn't put out their own monthly magazine for the general stampin public.
They would make a ton of money!! Think of all the SU stamp crazy stampers you know! Obviously ppl are hungry for more ideas all the time (case in point...this web site!). I think if SU put out a publication with techniques, card samples, instructions, etc. it would be an instant success. Now I don't know what they would do for advertisements..Maybe they wouldn't have to have any!
SU wants to encourage and support demonstrators. To put out a publication would defeat that purpose (as in "Why book a workshop to see new and exciting things when I can just look in the mag?"). And yes, I realize that seeing things in mags will result in orders, but SU is a company about sharing and people.

If you go to Stampington and Co. website, the publishers of The Stampers' Sampler® and Take Ten™ you can order back issues of both magazines and view their table of contents.
Simple Scrapbooks. It used to be called Ivy Cottage. It has a ton of layouts & very few ads. Much better than the other scrapbook magazines. I got a year worth for my mother in law & looked at it so much she got me my own!

I would say that this is PROBABLY the reason why SU! does not produce such a publication.
That's just a guess, but a logical one and one I can understand completely.

If I could only have one mag subscription, it would probably be Stamper's Sampler Take Ten special issues (which they do not offer subscription for as they are special issues put out only about once per year as it's going right now)--HOWEVER, they do have a Take Ten section in EVERY issue of Stamper's Sampler bi-monthly issues, so that makes it my top choice of any mag available by subscription.
I love 10 min. or less projects, am mostly fond of card-making over everything else, and there are usually 6 samples per page/12 per 2 page spread with brief instructions.
If you want to see a change in the projects presented by Paper Crafts (I agree, beautiful eye candy, but many are very deceptively labor intensive), you need to contact them and REQUEST that they provide MORE quick/easy projects and reduce the # of labor intensive projects.

"Why book a workshop to see new and exciting things when I can just look in the mag.
Because there is no substitute for seeing a hands-on demo. Demos could demo the projects in the magazine.
Also, literally thousands of SU customers are spending their $$ on various stamping magazines ( as mentioned in this post) and they still book workshops and call on their demos for help.
I think SU is missing an opportunity in the magazine market. And, not to hijack this thread, but ......yes SU may be a wonderful co. to work for, and yes they may be very generous, kind, geared toward people and sharing, ect. BUT please do not kid yourself....money/earnings/revenue is MOST DEFINITELY one of their top priorities. They are a business after all.
I finally picked up an issue of Paper Trends they are the sister to Scrapbook Trends(old Ivy Cottage) not very many adds. This is a decent publication if you can find it. Archivers here carries it. As should most scrapbook store that carry Scrapbook Trends. The color in these mags is still questionable as it was with Ivy Cottage if that bugs you don't buy it.
Take Ten comes out Bi-yearly in the spring and in the fall. If you order one from Stampington you will start recieving postcards to preorder at a discount of $12.95 instead of $14.95 for all future issues. Stampers Sampler is great from Stampington and has a Take Ten Section in every issue. It's only a few pages but invaluable.
Paper crafts and Stamp It are put out by the same company that publishes Creating Keepsakes and Simple Scrapbooks. Paper Crafts recently sent out a survey to some readers asking a lot of these questions about what type of projects instructions articles etc. Based on the responses here I would say you may see a change in the future to the levels of projects and possibly the articles. I doubt however Paper Crafts would address Demo business issues. We are a huge market share but it would seem to much like they were pushing the general public to become demo's or alienating the other half that are just stampers and don't do this as a business.
I think the business aspect would only be created by a company like SU or a group of companies or demos that put together such a magazine. Creative Memories is currently the only Direct Sales company sticking it's toe in the publication market they now have a magazine you can subscribe to.
There is also Simply Sentiments from what I have seen from the issues they are good few adds. They are however super hard to find. I have tons of scrapbook/stamping stores in my area and only one carries them and they don't get very many issues in.
I guess I was pretty tired when I said 'Simple Scrapbooks used to be called Ivy Cottage.' Actually it's called Scrapbook Trends now. And as the name says it's more of a scrapbook magazine then a stampers magazine. But they do usually have a section where stamps are used on the page. If you like to scrapbook you might like it.
