Question Owl Punch

i recently ordered the owl punch when i saw all the wonderful things done with it... but now with all the little pieces you have to punch and glue i'm starting to think it was a waste..(time and Paper) i don't know if i'm the only one who feels this way? maybe it's just me don't get me wrong it's cute as heck. I guess i just dunno how do you use it so it doesn't seem so wasteful? i end up punching 3 to 4 pieces of card stock just to get the one little owl i want.. sure i save the other pieces for other projects but i never have the type i need and i end up with bits i'm not sure how to use and eventually it ends up in recycle hmm... anyone else have my problem?? love to know how you deal with it. thanks in advance.

When I first got this punch, I thought that it would waste a lot of paper, but it is quite easy to punch only (or nearly only) the pieces you want--body, clothing, etc. It still is a bit time-consuming, but as you say, it really is cute. Somebody posted a really cute one that looked like they were heading out to a New Year's party.

The only thing that I have against it is how often I will actually use it.

OP, your sentiment is exactly the reason why I won't purchase the punch (even though a lot of demos are demonstrating in cyberspace). At a stamp club, our demo mentioned the small pieces and how time consuming it would be and we unanimously decided to not create a project with it.

Don't get me wrong, it is a current trend and cute, but there are too many small punched pieces for me to buy into it.

I have it and love it, but I'd love to experiment with some of the other creatures you can make from it. Does anyone have a link to some good examples?

i don't have a link but if you search out owl punch in the gallery section there are loads of results and some don't even look like the owl punch was used but were. It's really something.

Use strips of paper. I get out my scrap bags when I make owls (and other punch art). Just find a scrap that is big enough to stick in and punch only the part that you want. Sometimes you get a little bit extra but not much.

I love my owl punch and all the fun things you can make with it. I too just get out my scrap bag and I'm good to go. Some nights I just sit and make owls, penguins, flowers etc and put them in baggies to be used at a later date. You don't need to punch the parts you do not want.

I don't use all of the tiny pieces that makes the eyes. I either use googly eyes or just color in that smallest circle.

I bought mine last August and still have not used it. I think I'm intimidated with all the little bitty pieces it makes. I'll just have to take the plunge one of these days :>)

TWEEZERS! lol I love my owl punch. I, too, use scraps, strips and googly eyes. I also use tweezers to handle those little pieces.

Another one here voting for the scraps....all those 1/2" and 1/4" strips that you can't bear to throw away (please tell me I'm not the only one that hangs onto every little piece!) slide in perfectly to get just part you want for the eyes. The body parts are not too much bigger either. I say punch away and make some owls!

The heart part of the punch is on the edge too and I've punched hearts out to use as dots on "i"s. I've seen lots of cute ideas with the owl (penguin, cat, cow, reindeer, ghost, etc) and I used several parts of the owl in piecing together a nutcracker at Christmas. Ticket to Joy by mamaxsix - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers I've even made some owl cards too! I used my Xyron to adhere the pieces which made it a lot easier and used my piercing tool to pick up the small parts.

after you punch you can run the parts through the lil xyron "X" machine or use a ballpoint glue pen, like the one by Sakura.

or run cs through a xyron machine first them punch!

I have some little zip bags...I punch parts out o different cardstock and DSP and put the extras in the baggies by part...Need an owl, pull the extra parts in the colors you want! It's keeping the extra letters in an alphabet set...
