I love the look of the blinged and flowered cards, like the ones on Jacque's Joie de Vivre.
However, I can't afford to buy fancy flowers for my cards, plus I am pretty much home-bound except for doctor appointments. What are your tips for embellishments that can be made from things you already own?
I did find that a Hello Kitty bigz die that a friend gave me that had a flower accent that I cut felt flowers with, and I love it, but I am looking for more of a 3-d look.

The new SU build a flower punch and the fun flowers die in the new mini let you build your own customer flowers and they look pretty neat!!! You can use plain CS, stamp on it or use DSP. Plus, the die will cut felt. I don't have the punch yet but think I need to get it!!!! And once you buy the punch and or die they should last a long time and you can just use what paper you have on hand! That's my suggestion!
I haven't tried it yet ( on my lengthy to-do list) but Pam Bassett shared a tutorial for making her gorgeous ribbon blossoms. Here's the link (in the SCS Resources): Ribbon Blossom Tutorial - Create a ribbon blossom
Krystie - thank you for that tutorial information. I probably wouldn't make a lot of cards with this but I know a few people who will get one!!! Thank you!
Do you have a stash of silk flowers from another time and place? The blossoms usually pull off the stem easily and maybe you can use something like that.
Buttons of any kind
old earrings or beads (with the findings cut off). I found a bead necklace that had broken and I kept the beads that turned out to be very pretty for wedding cards.
Ribbon from a sewing project or repurposed from a small gift basket or candle.
I have used a lot of goodies through the years that weren't initially for cardmaking!

Me, too. I'm all about re-purposing. I found some cheap little stretch charm bracelets at the Dollar Tree. You can take the little charms off and use them on cards. Very cute embellishments.

Here are some really quick and easy flowers I made on my blog with really easy directions HERE. All you need is a punch, a few scraps of cardstock, and a brad.
I don't know if you have a Cricut or not, but there's new cartridge out now called Mother's Day Boquet. You can grab it off Ebay for about $20. It's more economical in the long run because you can cut so many shapes in a lot of sizes and layer them. If you don't have a Cricut and would like to PM me your address I'd be happy to send you some flowers I've made with it.
Also Penny Duncan's wonderful roses, which she has a PFD pattern in her files that you can print on the paper you are going to use and then cut them out with sissors. Penny Duncan Creations: Is it “P” or PDC Rose??????

I know there are some great rolled ribbon flowers out there. Sorry I don't have a link, but if you google rolled ribbon flowers you will get some tutorials.
I love re-purposing things for cards, one of may favorites is cut old jeans in to hearts or other shapes - a little embroidery floss x or two and they look fantastic. Go through the junk and desk drawer - paper clips, tape, old cards
See Non-Traditional Items for Scrapbooking: How to Do Scrapbooking with Non-Traditional Items | eHow.com for some fun ideas, also if you search digital embellishments for a bunch of free digital ones if you have a printer

Love all of these links, tfs! I bought a Sizzix die, 3-D flower that has two different sizes on it, makes great looking flowers too. I've used it with felt, and they are so easy to make.
Ok Ladies, BE PREPARED for a WOW!!! Check out Becca Feekens' blog Amazing Paper Grace.com She has the instructions, just posted TODAY for a GORGEOUS ROSE!!!! ENJOY!!!
I have made flowers made by pulling the center thread of ribbon then coiling it on a circle of adhesive. Also you can twist ribbon (or fabric) and make flowers or little rosettes. You can see examples on this post: Kitty Stamp: Fabulous Fabric
That is a kanzashi flower. There are several variations on the petals. Here are a couple of links, but there are more available if you do a google search.
