Anybody else use this phrase to try to curb their crafting desires? :o Here are some recent applications of the phrase that have cracked me up:
"OK, I'm going to get the matching holiday stamp set for my Life.Love.Paper House background stamp, because it's 40% off, and then that's it."
"OK, I'm going to buy that new flower die set when it's released, and then I'll have plenty of flower shapes and then that's it."
"OK, I'm going to buy that paper adhesive and then I'll have plenty of mediums and then that's it."
Meanwhile, my Amazon wish list has doubles and triples of all of these types of items and more! Oh, the amusing things I say to myself to try to get control of my obsession.
The only, "OK, and then that's it" item I bought was my Copic markers. I thought that investing $300 over a period of three years would keep me from wanting any other sort of coloring medium. Then I got a watercolor set and I've been wanting color pencils for awhile.
As far as stamps and dies, I'm not there yet. I plan to continue to slowly, methodically add both to my craft collection. I think the next stamp set will be flowers, something with beautiful blossoms that are big enough to color and shade with my Copics, watercolors and future colored pencils! LOL
Oh sure*. Especially if I am already ordering "anyway" or I want to make min free shipment...one more thing to make it and that's it....
This is The Jerk (movie) syndrome I have mentioned...."I just need this and that's all....oh and maybe this, but that's all.....ok, and this too, but that's ALL I need!!......" when he is leaving her at one point. Which was my reaction to the idea of trying to pick the 10 things or whatever I would take from my stash if I had to choose. (I cant)
I expect I will be saying it later about the brownies I just made too. ;)
You are not alone.
*I had to stop buying scented liquid hand soap for this reason along with a few other things but junk food is still in play.
I used to. Not much any more. I don't bother to think it or form the words, because I would then be forced to roll my eyes at myself...
I do try to bargain with myself. Such as "I can't buy another freakin thing till I make 50 cards with the haul I just bought. Not one more thing, do you hear me?" I'm not too sure I'm listening any more when I use the stern voice though.
"I have enough floral stamps, but these tulips are so gorgeous. OK, I'll get them and then that's it."
"I have Copics and watercolors, but I need those colored pencils. OK. I'll get them and then that's it."
"OK, I'll get this #2 watercolor brush and then that's it."

Never works. The only time I gave up buying paper crafting stuff was the year I took a break from making cards entirely. I did not buy one single thing.
But I took up painting instead. So I bought paint and brushes and mediums and gesso board instead. And every time I did, I said…

My wish list on Amazon for crafting supplies is huge. I also have a pretty big list over on Etsy. Unfortunately, I will be moving to a smaller craft room. So, instead of buying, I have to destash. I keep telling myself, "this is the last thing I'm going to buy before the move." The problem is, there always seems to be one more item I really have to get. Needless to say, destashing is not going well.
