I think it's an honor to be cased and it does not bother me if my name is not mentioned but I do like when it is so I can do a search and find their card to comment.
I wouldn't upload my cards if I didn't want to share and I certainly wouldn't give all the information I can think of if I didn't want the new stamper to feel confident that they can do the same techniques.
I know I WOULD be flattered if someone would CASE me....hasn't happened yet....but I hold onto the tiny thread of hope that I might....just might be good enough some day!
If this casing controversy continues, people are going to be scared away from the site....I've been here for awhile, and all this stuff is making me nervous, constantly looking over my shoulder. I just had an experience this morning when I looked at the new uploads. There was a card there that was nearly EXACTLY like the one I made at midnight LAST NIGHT at my demo's house. Now, here's a perfect example. Neither of us CASED the other, but our cards are nearly exactly alike in layout form. I'll post mine later today, but since I didn't case from this gal, I'm not going to put "inspired" or "cased" in the message, even though people are going to THINK it was cased since my will be uploaded second! That's why all this craziness over caseing needs to stop. If you DID case (which I've done alot, although I ususally won't upload those cards), just awknowlege who you cased from, IF you remember who it was (and admit you don't remember). No one is caseing maliciously here, that's what everyone needs to remember. Just my 2cents on this subject. We cannot have CASE POLICE on SCS. It's too wonderful of a site for all this nasty nonsense.

I would be flattered. But - soon after I started my gallery the I saw the casing controversy, and I really didn't want to be in hot water over my uploads and I know some posters are quite agressive, and I don't need that in my life.
I don't usually case 100%, but when I am lacking inspiration, I will pull up a card I like and then create my own version (kind of like how I cook). I don't take the time to write down whose card I used for inspiration - so if I do upload it later I have no clue where it came from. I also know that when I flip through the gallery ideas will float around in the back of my mind, then when the card is made, how do I give credit? I could have seen it months ago.
Plus if I have duplicated it 100%, I doubt if I would upload it again because the sample is already here.
I WOULD BE MORE THAN FLATTERED IF SOMEONE CASES MY CARD.SINCE THAT'S HOW WE ALL LEARN AND GET NEW IDEAS IS OFF OF SOMEOONE ELSES IDEAS.

i'm very flattered, and i don't care if i'm given credit. i know. we all use each others ideas that's half the fun, someone will come up with a new layout and then we add a little twist or a different stamp or ink and it's reborn!
I didn't answer the poll because I have circumstances behind the CASE:
I have a couple of designs that I am particularly proud of and did for a workshop and got lots of praise. I have thought of submitting to a mag but the color c/s is discontinued/retired so I am thinking they may or may not publish it. MOstly I haven't gotten around to it. If on the other hand I saw that design in a magazine EXACTLY the way I did it, i.e. before I got it in there and didn't have any credits to me, I would be BEYOND annoyed.
Since I don't have scanner ability, I haven't posted anything here, but would be pretty peeved if one of the girls from that one workshop that I did it at posted it here as her design, again without credit.
If credit is given, all fine and dandy, I would be honored!!!
If I got an idea from here I would never post it unless either everything was different -- and then would probably say that the layout/placement was due to something I had seen. I don't keep names attached to the card samples I save so I would probably have a hard time on most that don't hagve their names digitally over the actual card.
I LOVE to be CASEd! I do have to admit, I like to be sited though. I also love searching and commenting on cards that mentioned me...how cool is that!!! I know if I do CASE something, I spend a great deal of time and care hunting down the link from the original poster. However, I know it's hard to do all the time. That's the deal with posting, if you don't want to be copied that's great, perhaps you just shouldn't post the card. Some secrets are fun to keep to yourself.
If we all try to be courteous, it's a great honor! Isn't that why we have SCS?
I HEART THIS SITE ...and all the fabulous stampers that inspire me every day... ok, too many hours of the day!!!
Isn't part of the appealing thing to all of us about SCS is that we get recognition for what we are creating? Instead of asking our husband/children, "Wow, what you think of this card?" and and for the 15,000th time, they say, "That's cool or awesome, Mom/Honey"! and you know they are trying to be nice and show an interest but they simply are not as passionate as you would like them to be, so instead we can go somewhere to get recognition from other passionate people all doing what we love to do! That is why I voted that I am honored to be cased (not that I ever am or will be) but like I said in a previous post........Let's not sweat the small stuff! I think we all have more important things going on in our life than to worry about someone else's card looking exactly or sort-of like ours! Who cares? Someone has a message on their signature line that says...Stamping is like running away without leaving home! It's fun, it relieves stress, it is enjoyable. Let's leave the negative out of it!

Thank you for bringing up the "other" side of the controversy.
Nobody "minds" being cased. (generally speaking) but what people do mind is as this poster mentioned above. I would be flattered if I was ever to be cased, not worried about it though, my gallery isn't one frequented.
I assume we are all speaking generally, (cards for personal use, SS, RAK's etc,)and in that case, it's no biggee. Give credit if you can, or whatever, but don't steal an idea and submit it as you rown.
If one of my cards helped provide "inspiration" to a fellow stamper I'd be thrilled to be CASED. I was excited when one poster commented that one of my cards was going into their "favorites". There are so many talented people on this site and their creations continually impress and so they're added to my favorites area for future inspiration or to help get creative juices flowing. I try to acknowledge those I use as an idea for mine, but sometimes it hasn't gone into my favorites and I can't find it again, but I would claim that it's from a talented source here. Usually the card I create isn't an exact replica...either colors or layout altered in some way, but the idea did come from someone else. But that's okay...we find inspiration lots of places.
Bottom line...sorry it took me so long to get here...I hope that those who are cased and unacknowledged will know it's not done in a mean spirit but consider it a true compliment of their talent.

Good point Roxie. I feel the same way. Although I have only ever been cased that I know of once. But it was flattering. I always try to give credit if I can remember.

Hey, AJ! I'm seriously considering "case-ing" your gorgeous Blossoms Abound with Paisley box card, hee hee! LOVE IT! With your kind permission, of course! Since now I know how to make one.....

Like most I'm BEYOND flattered when someone cases me. BUT don't like when I see my card cased (not just the general idea) and someone doesn't even say its cased from someone they don't even remember-just NOTHING! Blank space. Like hey hope you like my idea. Thats annoying to me. I'd rather see you don't remember where/who than nothing. Its most annoying when they get more comments on an identical card! Thats the immature stamper in me-having a tantrum! LOL!-Just being honest here.

Great point.
We're talking about simple stampin etiquite.
Give credit where credit is due!
CASE away and mention the inspiration as best you can!
Be super proud when you are cased!
It's all good!
Something to think about!
I made a landscape scene using an orange sky and just the tree tops with a retired SU I bought used, I'm thinking this is really cool and I bet no one has thought of this tree top idea before.
Went to a garage sale last summer and bought an old magazine (published way before I got into stamping) and in it was a card using the same colors same stamps and almost the same image layout.
ID BEEN PUBLISHED AND DIDNT EVEN KNOW IT!
There is no way she saw the card I had not created yet, and I had never seen her card before. I don't subscribe to stamping magazines and have only bought one other than this garage sale.
So the question is....WAS WHAT YOU SAW REALLY A CASE ON YOUR CARD???

Excellent point Rox71!
BTW, I think that people who don't want to be CASEd should say so; otherwise, we might accidentally offend them.
I had a good friend make an awesome gift for someone that I found truly inspiring. I want to use her fairly original idea and make something similar (but actually quite different except for her very orginal part). I talked to her about it, and she was flattered that I wanted to make something similar but she requested that I not post my creation to the SCS gallery (just as she hasn't) because she wants to get her original idea into a magazine for money. I TOTALLY appreciate that she a)will let me CASE her and b)that she has every right to keep her original idea secret until she can get it published.
