Does that mean that we can expect every mini catalog set to be higher in price? If so, they're pricing me right out of purchasing.
If you check out the prices in the mini catalog it seems to reflect an increase, the stamp sillouettes is 31.95 for a set of six that is crazy to me and I love that set.
Yeah, can I say I'm loving the iPhone on this trip? It's a guilty pleasure - my DH somehow convinced me that we needed them!
It's been a long but fun day, SCS dinner tonight! Yay! No more big news, though. I'm sure there will be more tomorrow!
OH - except they did feature our very own Sharon Rogers in a demo "blurb" this AM! That was cool! (You know what I mean - when they talk about what real demos have done!) Even had hormonal, pregnant me tearing up!
(Sharon, are you here at Convention? Can't keep everyone's plans straight!)

OK...I get the whole die cut thing...but I thought we were going to Preview Catalogs (that you couldn't order from) and that the Mini Catalogs were (that you could order from) were going away?? And now we have a Holiday Mini catalog (that you can order from)?? If I am a demo and I am confused....I know my customers will be!! Help me!!
Denise
The Mini Catalogs aren't going away...we'll only have two a year now, in my understanding. Demos can order from the Preview Catalogs (and can order early from the Holiday Mini). Make sense?
On the die-cut 'scene'...It'll sure be interesting to see what happens with the regular catty. Although die cuts may save me some time, I really like trimming my own stamps. It's another form of 'therapy' for me. But, I guess for those who don't like it or who have customers that don't, it'll be a bonus.
I'm thinking that one of the reasons we have so many circles in the F/W catty is to ease the transition to the die cut stamps. Less dies to make in the beginning, then they can phase in more shapes, etc. Just a thought...

I must be the lone stamper who LOVES the feeling of cutting through rubber! I love trimming & mounting my stamps! I don't sell them, though, and die cut is much easier. I'll have to ask for scraps so I can have something to cut now & then! Or order from other companies that still let me cut the rubber! Yeah, I'm a weirdo, I know!

Of course everyone is assuming that mini catalog items will still be making it into the big catty. They could get around this fact by making mini catty items exclusive to that mini, since there's only 2 a year now & then not have to worry about some being die cut & some not. Sorry, but that's just my pessimistic mind at work.

I don't think it is ANY problem at all for the die-cut mini stamps to eventually make it into the big catalog. [to have a "mixed" catalog in the future] All Stampin Up has to do is deisgn a little symbol and put it by the catalog number that indicates the stamp set is die-cut. We already have the symbol for 2-step stamping...

I'm with you -- nothing better than vegging out in front of the tube, trimming and mounting stamps. It's just so...mindless. I love mindless. Because a mind is a terrible thing (lol). Plus, I'm super picky about an ultra-super-mega-close trim on my stamps.
But I still think the die-cut stamp thing is good. I can find something else mindless to do -- unless the die-cut ones do not meet my *exacting standards*.

I'm right there with you, RachelBee. I am really picky about how my stamps are trimmed too. "Ultra-super-mega-close" is exactly how I trim my stamps.
On the up-side, I trim all of my Japanese client's stamp sets. I just don't mount them because everyone has a different way of placing their images on the wood. It's just a service I have always provided as a way to thank them for their business. Now I won't have to spend a lot of time on trimming their stamps.
If they were going to go with die cuts it would be kind of neat if they gave you a choice, such as a set that has a price for regular uncut for all of us that like to cut the rubber and then another price for the die-cut stamps. I think that would make everyone happy. I know some sets I would love not to have to cut and others I don't mind cutting.

oh..I like that idea!

oh yea, I can picture it now....a wee little pair of scissors for the non-diecuts and a thumb for the diecuts because all you have to do is hold the edges and pop out the image with your thumbs! lol! Jan

Sharon is NOT there. I'd PM her and tell her. She posted somewhere else in the convention forums that she'd been asked for a photo as she submitted a quote on a topic we were asked about in June. She wanted to know if her vignette made it in. I think she posted in this thread somewhere above. srogers5

Isn't there ANYTHING new to announce besides the darn die-cuts? Personally, I could care less whether they decide to die cut or not, but I was hoping to hear about some changes to the compensation plan or something to make it easier and/or better for us demos. I am happy about the new GR points, but it's a small concession. I had about 400 points left over this year, but I'm annoyed that it's almost all catalog merchandise. I know a lot of demos are teetering on the edge of quitting and I was hoping to hear something a little more encouraging than die cut stamps. Any business news?

Kinda like back when you could buy sets w/ or w/out the wood blocks.

wouldn't the die-cuts also be a way to use the stamps with acrylic mounts to break into that market also?
Monica
Of course, things always change but @ one time Shelli said that SU would never go acrylic. Maybe the die cut stamps is just a new way to compete w/ the acrylic.
As for the idea of offering both cut & uncut... I had thought of that. Again like when you could pay less for the stamps w/out the wood.

Not at convention this year.....but all business related items usually come on Day 2 morning session. If you check the demo manual online, there is no change to quarterly quotas or anything like that.

Sharon, sorry to hear you're at home! :( I thought I knew that, but can't keep it all straight!
I'm certain there will be more news tomorrow. As someone else said, they never tell all the big news on the first day. Gotta keep everyone waiting for more!

Sharon do you know what story they're telling about you? Did you post your submission on your blog? I'd love to read it and I'm sure I'm not alone!
No, I didn't save a copy, but it had something to do with the fact that SU is my sanity as I raise two boys with autism (they were diagnosed around the same time I joined) and SU has provided me with a way to give back to the people who have helped me so much. Each year for the past 5 years or so I have held a fundraiser for programs that help autistic children. Each one of the last three have raised $1000 each, with this past one bringing in $1200. There is NO way I could've given that kind of money out of my own pocket, so SU has been key.

I have one customer that has repeatedly asked for this so she is going to be so excited. I know that I am. I really hope that everything goes to die cut. The only thing is do we think that it will increase the price?

I will start out by aplogizing for being so dumb. My question is what is the difference between the acrylic and SU besides being clear, are they easier to use? I have been a demo for only three months and to be honest the only stamps I have ever used are SU.
I don't think they would/could do that because it would me double items on the pick line (both the die cut and the regular stamp set would each need their own slot on the pick line).

So great to hear but I wonder why they aren't just die cutting them all. I really hope they do - I am not an expert cutter and this will mean so much to me.
