Haven't heard any whispers about the upcoming mini and it should be ready to see soon because I'm guessing you can order from it after august 1. Has anyone seen or heard anything yet?
I just looked at the update regarding the holiday mini dates. I think it's terrible that we have to place an order during the holiday mini preorder in order to get a copy of the holiday mini. A smart company would make sure it's best customers had a copy of the mini and had time to get excited about it BEFORE the preorder. I can't believe how cheap SU is becoming. All demonstrators should have a copy of the mini well before customers receive a copy.

I don't know if has anything to do with cheapness. I think it think they are stuck in their old time marketing style - having the customer wait, breathlessly for the "new" catalog to be released. That style of marketing is right out of the 1990's and is totally useless in today's market - my opinion, only!!!!
With so many companies out there producing incredible dies and stamps and new inks, it would behoove SU to let customers know, ahead of time, what is in the new upcoming catalog. Right now I am on the cusp of buying several new products that appeal to me. I thought fleetingly of waiting for SU to issue their latest catalog, but decided why bother? If they aren't willing to show the long-time customers what is coming soon, they deserve to lose the sale to some other company who is out there promoting and asking for the business.
Just my 2 cents on the subject....
I'll tell you straight up that if I see something I "need" and the price is right I don't care which company it comes from and I'm not waiting to see who else might add something similar to their line...
Other companies do not tell their customers "coming soon" and show you what it is. They just show up on their website. We just all know SU's schedule so well and different demonstrators handle getting the catalogs to their customers differently. (I am a demo.). It used to be that we couldn't even give you a catalog until the release date. At least now we can give them out as soon as we receive them. With the different sales models of the different companies, it is hard to compare them. Kind of apples to oranges. IMHO....
Cathy, I think you don't subscribe to other stamp companies emails. I have at least 4 companies who email ahead of time to show off their upcoming "New Release." Most do this almost every month. They show what the new products are and have a Design Team posting examples using them (to encourage sales), before the products are available. My Favorite Things. Paper Smooches. Reverse Confetti. Our Daily Bread..... Papertrey does it too, but their posts are very frustrating. A lot of the time the product doesn't show up, and you can't tell if it's a stamp or a die. I think they are trying to be too elegant, and it's just aggravating their prospective patrons.
I like seeing what's coming up, and plan to seek out more blogs of companies I like to get notice ahead of time.
Papertrey shows the new product, a few at a time, the 5-9 of the month. That's only 10 days before it is released. Then, a little more with samples the 10-14. If I am not mistaken, (and I might be) the sneak peaks from the SU Demos can start as soon as they get the product. That can be as much as 20-25 days before it is released. I don't know of any other company that shows sneak peaks that early. But again, I could be wrong.....
I think because we see sneak peaks more often (usually once a month) from the other companies it seems that SU is holding out on the customers.

SU customers will start seeing sneak previews as early as Aug 3 or within a couple of days or demos being able to pre-order. Almost a full month before the holiday catalog goes live. Remember SU doesn't release a new stamp set every month so you won't see monthly sneak peeks.
July will be over before you know it and Then you'll be deluged with sneak peeks

Oh I do know what your heart is saying. Last summer was our last with our daughter home. I didn't want to flip the calendar to August. I understand :-(

From another stand point, we no longer have holiday stuff in the big catalog and some people like to start their holiday cards in the summer when the days are longer and we seem to have more energy or something. Things can get pretty hectic in Sept. and then there's all that other holiday stuff to take care of.........I for one would like to see the holiday stuff available a few months earlier.

Not to mention that school starts again and school sports/activities and all that that entails...earlier is better. I totally agree. All the planner companies have already released their 2017 planners and it's only July and they've been out for a while now.

There are a few Xmas things in the big catalog (page 26-35). 2 new stamp sets the rest are not new. There is a new pack of Xmas DSP on pg 172 if anybody can't wait until Sept 1st. Ha Ha
The new set with JOY was a big hit at my Christmas in July SAS.
I just ordered the Christmas paper on my last order. I realized it's 24 sheets, not 12. I know it's thin but that shouldn't matter when I'm using it for layering.
Joyful nativity is a great new Christmas set in the regular catalog.
Personally, I like that there is a break between the big catty and the holiday mini. It gives me a chance to play with all of the new in colors, stamps, and dies, and breathe a bit before the next influx of new stamping goodness.
And to clarify something, all demos get a complimentary mini. It is sent with your first demo order during the preorder, or after a set day in August if you don't. All demos get to see the entire catalog online by the start of the preorder. This year they are even throwing demos an online party with prizes. They treat their demos really really well.

This :-) I need a break and time to use new stuff before I get more new stuff, lol!:-P
They have kind of redone the timing of all the catalogs in the past few years which is partly why the holiday catalog starts in September. They want to give time for the annual catalog to settle. For me, there's enough holiday stuff in it to get started if I want. Then I fall in love with all the stuff in the holiday catalog too :-) The Artisan team just did a blog hop with the holiday stuff from the annual catalog and of course, now it's on my list, gah!

Can you post a link to get us started looking? TIA.
I can't imagine trying to absorb everything in a 300+ page catalog AND a Christmas catalog all in the same month.
Maybe not but if you are one of those who likes to see (and buy) the Christmas offerings early (as PP's stated above) to get started on Christmas cards early, your priority would be to browse that first then view the rest of it once you have that figured out. No need to overwhelm yourself with ALL of it at once.
I must stroll through offerings at a little slower pace than some. I just received brand new stuffs today and have no true urgency to look into the cyber-crystal-ball of future offerings as yet.
Life is short .. learning to savor as I go.
I prefer to start my Christmas cards as early as possible. It seems to me that a whirlwind of activity starts right after Labor Day and I don't like having to try to squeeze my cardmaking in amongst all that actiity. Cardmaking is supposed to be a relaxing process for me. As such, I have no intention of waiting until the SU holiday catalog comes out and then having to wait to order and then, because it seems to be happening much more frequently than in the past, I have to hope whatever I want doesn't go out of stock and I have to wait even longer.
There are sufficient number of other companies out there with new Christmas products that I can order from now. I haven't really liked the FSJ products in the past, but was knocked off my feet by the FSJ Holiday Catalog. Their line seems to be expanding, maturing and has become more aligned with my preferences. The bulk of my Christmas stamping budget has already gone to FSJ.
I am a long time, but almost former, SU customer. I believe they have failed to adapt to the current marketplace or else I just may be totally out of touch with the present trends and attitudes. For the first time since they did that horrible nothing but circles and doodles catalog when they underwent a major change of direction about 10 or so years ago, I have been pretty underwhelmed by the entire new SU catalog. Yes, the new annual catalog does have a couple of new Christmas sets. I certainly don't want to have to limit my choices to only that and I don't want to have to wait until almost mid-September to get started. It just doesn't work for me. If it works for you that's great. That is why there are so many companies out there to meet all our needs.

Just for comparison - which I know it's not the same products etc. I am an Origami Owl consultant (resigning in the next few days). We get NO catalogs at all unless we pay for a package to be shipped to us. And they can only be ordered with supplies - no product (unlike SU). And shipping starts at $9.95 (for supply orders anyway)
But Origami Owl now provides the basic website (that customers can order from) for free to us (as far as I know). I compare this to the SU Demo Business website that is $12.95 per month.
So most companies do things differently than each other, but for the most part try to be fair to them.
