Default Need help with a technique

I see many samples in the catalog where a matted square is made concave. It is matted perfectly. How is this done? By hand or is there a tool out there for this.

Maybe one of the new punches? They are just made for layering. . . Check 'em out!

No I don't think so, since I have seen in in previous catalogs. The punches are too small for what I see. Checkout the first sample on page 174 to see what I mean.

My guess would be it's done by hand first then maybe use the Layer Ease to make the layer even around all sides. Though I know several people that can cut perfectly and don't need something like the Layer Ease for perfectly spaced layers... I wish I was one of them

Hmm I suppose that would work. Sometimes I wish the card recipes in the back of the catty had slightly more specific instructions on how to do certain techniques.

why use valuable catty space for more detailed recipes when we can just post here and get the answer! LOL

besides - that is why they took out the 3 page spread of the wheels so that they could use those pages in the front for the new "kits"

they are these little metal discs with holes in the middle. You put down the CS for the layer, put the item you want to layer on top of that, then butt one of the disks up against whatever you want to layer. Put a sharp pencil in the hole, and, keeping the disk alongside of the thing you're layering, you'll mark an even border around it.

Whoa. That is all jumbly. Hope it made sense - it did in my head, but notsomuch when I typed it! I never bought it - prefer to eyeball rather than deal with the little disks. That's $ I can spend on stamps, anyway!

Default does layer ease really work?

it looks so great, and i've been really struggling with the decision to purchase it. i have a hard time believing that the disk would not "slip" for lack of a better word. is the cardstock thick enough that it keeps the layer ease against the edge of the cs? thanks for any input.

I own and use my layer ease with little problem.

You just need to go slow and steady and hold the piece you are tracing around firmly.

I think it is a GREAT tool.

I love my Layer Ease, too, once I found that it helps to have the piece to be matted attached to the matting card stock. NY Nan is right - go easy until you have a good feel for it. And, yes, the cardstock does hold the little disk in place.

I own the Layer Ease and it's not the easiest thing I've ever used. It seems like even if I go extremely slow it still slips. I end up with all kinds of pencil marks on the one I'm tracing & on the one I'm tracing to. I know some demos who just love it, but I prefer to just eyeball it & cut it myself. JMHO.

I bought a tool set off of QVC called Perfect Layers that works great. You get 2 rulers with different size lips on them and a razor cutter. You just glue your image to be matted down to your mat paper, butt the ruler up against the image cardstock and cut. It works great and they are still at an 'introductory price' today. Check it out, I think they are worth the $$.
